What's even more frustrating is I still believe Beard could have saved his job if he were at all remorseful and took accountability for his actions. His ego wouldn't allow it, and CDC reluctantly told him to get the hell out.

Abilene. Christian.

Kent State at home. Ew.

yall remember vs Chaminade..

Rick had some ugly losses too.

I forget the exact quote, but the announcers were talking about Tramon Mark and his previous coaches. Something like "Mark said Rick Barnes was a tough coach, and Eric Musselman was a tough coach. He described Terry as more 'motivational'."

Oh man. That's brutal. That's players showing up at Charlie's last press conference type energy.

It still pisses me off Shaka was allowed to coach 4 more seasons after he missed the tournament in year 2.

And he missed it again in year 4 - and got 2 more seasons!

I think he would have been fired in 2020 if the postseason hadn't been canceled. If I recall correctly, we were on the bubble and were set to play essentially a play-in game against Beard and Tech (also on the bubble) in the Big 12 tournament the day the season stopped.

Texas played decent at home tonight, while Tenn was at times sloppy.

Barnes team still won...  74-70

Tenn just didn't seem to be that nervous about actually losing the game

The only way this team can win is if Johnson goes off, and today Johnson went off... And they still lost

Johnson went for 26 on 11 of 17 shooting and 50 percent from 3.

The entire bench scored... 9 points.

RT gotta go.

Well, they were playing an elite team.  Tre going off against lesser competition might change the outcome.  Nobody expects us to be elite, but top 30-40 would be nice.

Watching us play doesn't seem like there is no coaching involved. We have a bunch of volume shooters who don't like to pass or run any offensive sets. They pass only when it's impossible for them to shoot, not because they are trying to create an easier shot for their teammates. RT is running a scam collecting $3M+ a year to let his players do whatever they want. How do some people get so lucky?

Students don't come back until Monday. They really should make those student sections tickets available to the general public during the holidays.

they may need to make them available the rest of the season.

They could have installed those silly things from the NBA bubble season that shows fans watching from home

I don’t think Texas is the “fire in season” type of athletic department, but the 1 game in January I thought we would win, I’m not so sure now.

Of course the CBB analysts are still hyping up everything saying that Texas and ou shouldn’t be too worried right now because they just know a 7-11 team from the SEC would make the tournament.

CDC fired Aston the same season she beat the #1 team (Stanford) and took several highly ranked teams close to the wire

Classes start Monday. They are back in town. They just don't care.

I have been saying 0-for-January was probable for a while and while I absolutely want us to find a new basketball coach.... fuck firing coaches in the middle of the season without demonstrable cause (not being good at your job is not enough) that shit is 100% beneath us no matter how bad things get.

Also I don't see how the ESPN talking heads see 7 SEC wins on our schedule lol.

If we dont make the tournament, I would be surprised if he's back.  The fact we had a tournament W last year, may factor in.  He had a solid run with Beard's team in the interim year.  Barnes blew us out by 16 in last year's R2.  If he whiffs this year, which is looking likely, I can see where he would get canned, especially if we only win like 3 games in conference.

If Beard had shown any contrition, the play would have been to suspend him for 30-60 pending some type rehab/legal process I suppose; but there were no good options with whole deal.

RT is not a championship level coach imo and CDC has repeatedly said we play for Championships (Conference or National) at Texas.  Not sure where he would look given our history.  Barnes and Shaka moving on and having success is not a good look for MBB program.

IMO Beard's mug shot was the nail in the coffin no matter how sorry he was about it all.

I think CDC could have navigated the mug shot if Randi still recants and the charges were dropped, but he just didn’t help himself with the lawyer’s letter.

CDC’s correct play would be to tell Beard to keep his mouth shut, and then tell the public he is suspended indefinitely until the investigation concludes. After that “no comment” until after the season.

It was a super close game and 4 point margin

I’m not trying to defend or argue for RT. It’s just a fact that it was a close 4 point game

I'll be surprised if Texas wins more than 4 regular season conference games this season...

That was a tight game.  after the 2H of aggy and 1H of Auburn, I have some hope they can compete at the lower half of the conference but I think away games are really going to be challenging.

we are going to need Kaluma and Johnson to play well together to have any hope of winning in the upper half.  they both have to overcome our non existent bigs.

Looks like ET is trying to earn a stay of execution. How miserable it must be to be an OU fan these days!
