Yep.  I don't know why we have to rehash this 800 times a week, but we hadn't been to the Elite 8 since 2009.  It was a no-brainer.

it didn't work out, just as most people expected, which is why the salary was low and the contract was pretty easy to get out of.  Assuming CDC is counting the 2022-23 as year 1, since RT did coach 30 games that season, this is year 3, and he will be thanked for providing stability and leadership after Beard shitcanned himself, but it is time to move on, because CDC doesn't live with getting blown out by 30 in conference games.

We shall see just how much they want to press contending in men's basketball with how they handle this.

Last night was the first time I didn't even bother turning the game on until 2 hours into it. Saw they were down 20+ then turned it right off.

We have nothing but made up bullshit rumor that says he didn't. Never seen once ounce of proof, and I've asked repeatedly for 2 years.

I find it virtually impossible to believe he wouldn't willingly do a little PR rehab to keep this job that he wanted so badly. The rumors don't make any sense. Just assholes making up garbage to try to save face as our basketball team shits it's pants every day.

I admittedly didn’t follow all of it that closely, but wouldn’t the reason to not “do a little PR” be that he maintained publicly that he did nothing wrong, and agreeing to do anger management and some sort of rehab would undermine that claim?

His lawyers (while writing nasty letters to UT's lawyers) obviously told him not to say anything at all until the charges were dropped.  Once they were dropped, he apologized, but by then it was way too late, especially given the letters between UT and his lawyers that had escalated.

If they were afraid he was going to end up on trial, they probably gave him good advice, as the Texas job is not worth risking his freedom.  If they were pretty sure the charges would eventually be dropped, it may have been a mistake.

Go read the letters exchanged between Minton and James Davis. Minton literally says that Beard is standing by his declaration that “he is innocent of any crime and has not done anything that is unbecoming a head coach and reflects poorly on the University.”  That message indicated Beard didn’t want to do “a little PR work” and is certainly some evidence that he didn’t want to keep the job if it meant admitting to his bad behavior.

As the previous poster pointed out, he could not admit to any wrongdoing until the legal process played out. The lawyers got into a pissing contest and we jumped the gun. This is why you never let the lawyers do any business negotiations. We used to call them the "business avoidance department."

That was once lawyers were already involved and he knew they were going to fire him. So of course he went into spin control. It should never have gotten to that point.

Once again, no one is provided any proof that CDC went to him and said "hey let's figure out a way to make this work. Will suspend you for the full season, you'll do some PR rehab work, then come back next year." As far as any of us know he was never given that option, and I find it hard to believe he would have turned it down if he was.

And that stupid decision is a dark cloud that's going to hang over this program until these mother fuckers fix it.

As I think I am the previous poster being reference, I will be clear that I do not think it was UT that jumped the gun.  I think Beard's actions (or lack thereof) and his lawyer's emails basically forced UT to fire him.

Whether it was the right move for Beard (criminal lawyers will always mitigate any possible risk of conviction) probably depends on how much trouble he was really in.  If there was a decent chance at a conviction, he definitely made the right move in throwing the UT job away.  If, as it looks in hindsight, it was likely to lead to dropped charges, he probably made a mistake.

no you weren’t. and to act like you don’t know why i still support him and his team is disingenuous bait that’s specifically designed to start some shit. also funny that @jimmyjazz  wants to join in considering his propensity to absolutely melt down on a weekly basis over something innocuous that i’ve said. just remember that you’re the one poking the bear the next time you throw an absolute fit because i said something totally benign jimmy. what was it, yesterday that the entire rest of the board was agreeing with me and pos repping all my posts as you posted “god damn it derka”? yeah. for your own mental health you should probably sit this one out.

i’m just saying jimmy. you have a very long history of absolutely melting down over the most benign stuff that i’ve posted. you were upset at me again a day or two ago for zero discernible reason. but now you want to “joke” with me about barnes. again, for your own mental health, maybe don’t participate in the “derka wants barnes back!!!!!” bait when you already can’t handle my mere existence in the first place.

again, i’m not upset at you posting that, im just cautioning you on throwing my name around when everything i say seems to upset you. because it’s fair game for to reply when you post about me. but if all it’s going to do is get you upset, then why even go there. that’s all.

@Derka, you clearly don't process what I expect people to understand as a lighthearted post.  I responded "Dammit, Derka" to this:

DUDE.  We have been in complete agreement and posting the same things over and over again about the Scott Drew theory, and that's just in the past couple of days.  You are too primed to take anything remotely counter or even sarcastic as being an attack.  Let's just stop.

Move on to what exactly? We have nothing to move on to until we get a better coach than Beard. It's not different from when your ex doing better after a split than you are. Let us be bitter. That's all we have got!

Chris Beard engaged in unacceptable behavior that makes him unfit to serve as head coach at our university. Instead of immediately terminating Mr. Beard, the university exercised thoughtful restraint to allow time for additional material facts to emerge. Mr. Del Conte supported Mr. Beard and the program by supporting this pause before action and by presuming his innocence while the facts unfolded. But that support was not a determination regarding Mr. Beard’s conduct — such a decision would have been premature. It is a mistake to view a manager’s support for an employee as a statement of belief in criminal guilt or innocence. We understand that some but not all of the reports of Mr. Beard’s behavior were retracted. It is his actual behavior that we consider, not whether some acts also constitute a crime. Whether or not the District Attorney ultimately charges Mr. Beard is not determinative of whether he engaged in conduct unbecoming a head coach at our university.

...

Additionally, your letter this morning reveals that Mr. Beard does not understand the significance of the behavior he knows he engaged in, or the ensuing events that impair his ability to effectively lead our program. This lack of self-awareness is yet another failure of judgment that makes Mr. Beard unfit to serve as a head coach at our university. For these reasons, the university proceeds to terminate Mr. Beard. The attached letter is his termination notice and will be part of his employee file.

Rodney Terry, Texas Longhorns
Terry got the full-time gig just two years ago after a strong season as interim following Chris Beard’s dismissal, but a 1–4 start in SEC play drove plenty of buzz that AD Chris Del Conte could deliver a quick hook. The Longhorns bounced back well with recent victories over the Missouri Tigers and Texas A&M Aggies and right now find themselves squarely on the bubble for the NCAA tournament. Finding a way into the Big Dance could quiet some of the noise.

0-10 south carolina at home:

lost to no.1 (kenpom) auburn by 3

lost to no.4 florida by 1

lost by 5 in OT to no.31 miss state

lost by 4 to no.12 texas a&m

currently in a 3 point game vs no.20 ole miss

they’re not going to go 0-fer conference play. even if we beat kentucky, if we turn around lose that game that will probably be the nail in RT’s coffin.

Ole Miss just made the tournament.

I think it is as simple as this: If we make the tourney, he gets another year. To make the tourney we will have to win 3 of our next 6 to get to 7-11.  That gets us a 50/50 shot.  If we win 4 of 6, we are in.

I think 7-11 is pretty low shot now with the home loss to ark.   I guess aggy and Mizzou are decent wins but that's it.

Could be right. If we win 3 more, it will likely include wins over Georgia and Arkansas. Perhaps Kentucky.  There will be at least one SEC team that gets in at 7-11.

Pretty sure he was done before that. When every team in your conference but 2-3 go to the dance and you aren’t one of them, cdc will adjust.

I'm an optimist at heart, but even I can't see this team taking 4 of 6 remaining games, no matter the competition.

I guess the conference tournament provides some additional cannon fodder.

Same. I don’t see how we win 4/6 after the last 3 games. This team has checked out
