I would hope CDC is smarter than to let a miracle keep RT around.

he's probably under .500 for the season without Johnson, who he won't have next year.

No matter what, Terry needs to be gone. This team was not fun to watch and gave no confidence. They were a so so team that was poorly coached. Terry was a better assistant coach.

Not likely.  If CDC holds to his pattern he will wait until he has his guy ready to be announced.

yeah, he's not announcing anything until after the SEC tournament/NCAA selection show.  This one may drag out a while like baseball, will be more difficult as there isn't an obvious target. and lets be honest the Texas Basketball job is not like Football and Baseball jobs.

CDC has already been working the backchannels. There are candidates. But the season will probably have to end before he can make a move.

Very little benefit of that in this instance. It makes more sense when you need to do more background work and there is a true decision to be made.

It’s not like other schools and agents don’t know Texas is opening. No one is going to be caught off guard whether he fired tomorrow or 3 weeks from now.

What was the benefit of letting Pierce hang around?

There was apparently some contract stuff that had to be sorted out and there was an incident towards the end of the season that complicated some things.

His office was cleaned out within a week of the season ending.

If it was all about having the next guy lined up and not wanting to draw unnecessary attention to him, why didn’t they just wait 24 more hours to fire him after the championship game?

I think he did that for Schloss, because he was such the obvious number 1 choice.  he knew as soon as Pierce was fired all the questions would start.

there isn't that kind of situation here.

If Terry wants to look for another gig it will be announced right after we get bounced from SEC tourney.

If there's ever a movie about Giancarlo Esposito's life, Rodney Terry could play the part. Hell, he might need the job when the time comes.

Best bet is to fire immediately and bring in new guy ASAP for jump on portal.

Good job wasting 3 years Money Dudes, Rodney Terry

he took us to the Elite 8 his first year

The 32 his second year.

So, he's only wasted one year, pal.  Unless you think 32 is beneath us.
Yeah I know we are willing to pay for final four but the 32 is cool too.

*on an off year

He didn't do shit regarding the elite 8. He definitely was a waste of time. Round of 32 is fucking pointless, good job on the participation trophy.

So we aren’t getting anyone who is about to play in the tournament?

Yeah- if we’re looking at someone worth a shit they’re going to be playing for awhile (ncaa tournament or nba).

I'm trying to remember the last Texas coaching situation this bad. All signs point to Charlie Strong, who from the start showed ominous signs of being in over his head. Compared to RT, even David Pierce was an acclaimed leader of young men. CDC obviously won't let this embarrassment go on, nor should he. I just wish there were a better pool of strong candidates to pick from.

2 years*

If Kyle Flood becomes interim head coach of the football team in October, and we make the playoffs... I don't think many would say "That was Kyle Flood's team and he took us to the playoffs".

He is under .500 without the 4 cupcake wins to start the season.

I’ve said it before that it’s interesting the SEC and ESPN consider this Terry’s 3rd year while Texas fans consider it his 2nd.

If some of you Texas fans consider it his 2nd, then when was the last time CDC fired someone in Year 2? If you’re considering it year 2, then you really should give him a 3rd.

I think years is dumb. He’s coached roughly enough games to cover 3 seasons.  CDC knows who he is and where the program is headed by now

That and its the only program in the athletic department that’s going backwards

30+ more games is not going to change the trajectory of the program, whether you call this year 2/3 and give him another

If CDC feels he can make an upgrade or has one locked up, he will pull the trigger.

Already happening on ESPN this morning. That NCST has unrealistic expectations, etc etc, what do you do if the next guy doesn’t take you to the final four

I think we're agreeing? Beard did his best to waste 2023 and Terry helped recover it. Then we "wasted" last year and this year instead of hiring someone else. Although they still won a tourney game last season and this season we will put a kid in the top 10 of the draft.

I don't think that's an awful roll of the dice for CDC to make. If he course corrects going into next season then I think it's silly to keep criticizing him for giving RT a couple seasons. I'd remind everyone that that was our first sweet sixteen in 15 years....

That’s what it really comes down to. Every other program is excelling. Finishing 13th in the SEC and being on the bubble is not the standard

No.  Texas basketball fans are very lazy and bandwagonish.  Oooh, it's hard to park, waahhh.

You can say that about any sport at Texas, even football.
