we’ve had five head coaches in my lifetime. two of them (rick barnes and chris beard) *demanded* that their players all have a high basketball iq in order to see the floor. the other three (tom penders, shaka smart, and rodney terry) did not/do not demand that their teams play smart, and do not hold their players accountable for repeated brain dead errors. you do the math, i’m doing the alfredo. all i know is whoever our next coach is better have the same demands of his players as barnes, beard, and all elite coaches. it’s an absolute prerequisite for the job.

I would like a coach who is a teacher of the game, not just put a roster together and have them play street ball. We never seem to play cohesive ball.

I don't hate RT the way I hated Shaka so he's got that going for him. Just send him on his way and let's get serious about finding a coach.

About how I feel. I appreciate what he did in steadying the ship but he isn't the answer. I was hoping he could be but I've seen enough.

Not sure this team makes the tournament at this point. They look mentally destroyed.

we don’t even know if ben mccollum can recruit at this level, but yeah, we’re gonna give a long term, multimillion dollar contract to a guy with a grand total of two career wins vs teams ranked in kenpom’s top 95. that’s definitely what CDC was looking for when we built moody. a guy with 3.5 months under his belt as a d-1 coach. for sure.

Surely Texas has the money to develop some sort of time machine to be able to hire a 1996 version of Tom Izzo.

He’s a 4 time national champion and is considered one of the best x and o guys in the country. Crazy a football program as good as Ohio state would hire a guy with no FBS under his belt but Texas basketball is too good for that.

what’s crazy is you thinking that’s an apples to apples comparison, or what’s more, that jim tressell, an outlier, would prove your point even if it were.

You’re right Ohio state football is much more respected and better than Texas basketball is. So it’s an even better point.

So what is Terry's calling card?  It's not defense,  it's not offense.  What is it? His team has no identity other than they could be any team you might see playing pick up at Gregory Gym.

Playoffs, playoffs, playoffs - by Jon Arnold

This team ain't gonna make the tourney and they sure as fuck don't deserve it. We didnt beat anyone worth a shit before the conference season started and we're getting ready to be 4-8 in conference. The faster we can shitcan Terry and start the reset the better.

My biggest fear now is that we sneak into the tournament.

Teams that are dysfunctional on both ends of the court and are led by a coach who doesn't demand accountability and provides the tactical edge of a fence post don't sneak into anything in this conference.

They're simply exposed as a fraud and that's what has occurred.

Hopefully CDC learned his lesson and won't promote an assistant coach to head coach without a coaching search ever again.

Expand

There are certain circumstances where promoting an assistant could make some sense. Maybe it is a hot shot young guy who is destined for bigger things if you don’t retain him (Marcus Freeman in football) or someone who has been on staff for a lengthy period of time and has been groomed as an obvious replacement for a coach getting older and close to retirement (UNC and Duke in basketball).

Terry didn’t fit either of those descriptions and actually had a mediocre track record as a head coach, which makes it even worse because there is nothing to dream on.

We can all dream he’s fired tomorrow!

Man, we all know there were extenuating circumstances beyond just being a good assistant that meant it would have been a political nightmare not to give him a shot.
