getting beard, losing beard, and then getting billy donovan would be like winning the lottery, losing the ticket, and then winning the lottery again two years later.

Terry was a dumb fucking hire to begin with. Should have just either suspended Beard for 1 season or hired a real coach. Everyone knew Terry was not the answer.

Billy D outclasses anyone currently coaching in college imo. He's a pipe dream because he's done very well at the NBA level and has no reason to leave. If he wants to stay in the league someone will give him a job.

Billy D and Hurley is maybe a toss-up but Donovan would be coming in with a fresh mind and you would think would have some newfound motivation to stamp his name again.

How many more games does this team win with a different coach?

Outside of Johnson and Kaluma, this team doesn't have the talent of a Division I basketball team, much less one in the SEC.

Ultimately everything falls on the coach, but this team is garbage.

March Sadness.

I think CDC Is waiting until the Brackets are filled and he will start calling 1-64.
We have waited entirely too long to fire RT. What a disaster. I guess we will wait and see who doesn’t sign an extension to maybe give us hope.

The old firing all the assistants to prop RT up for another year routine ain’t gonna get it.

With the exact same roster, a few more for sure.  Maybe enough to get us in the tourney with a semi respectable record, but not past the round of 32.   Talent is missing like you said, but some of our loses did result from crappy coaching such as not slowing the game down and looking for high percentage shots and opting for bricks from the three point line when we actually had the lead in some of these games and against the higher tier in the league too.  And of course our defense was like wet toilet paper. How much coaching and/or lack of talent played on that side Is the question.

The loss against South Carolina should be viewed like Charlie Strong’s loss to Kansas.   It was the last straw and we didn’t even have a real AD in place much less one that doesn’t fuck around like CDC.  Next week at this time the speculation should be rolling about who will be our next HC because the RT era will be over.

Crazy idea - let Vic coach the men in the SECT (since it’s the week after the women’s tournament ends)

Or not, RT’s little princesses would probably crumble under Vic’s hard ass, accountable coaching

This team isn’t stacked, but there’s a lot more talent on this roster than what it looks like right now due to terrible coaching. This team has looked poorly coached and disorganized all year, and now they’ve clearly quit on their coach the last couple weeks.

If you give a good HC this roster,  I’d expect we’d have at least 3 more wins in conference, and even more if you have a great HC, like Oats or Otzelberger. Not to mention that roster building is a huge part of the job, and Terry’s shown the last two years he’s awful at that part of the job too.

Well, at least Moody is dead too. You could hear individual conversations happening on tv last night for most of the game.

It's hard to believe that hiring a guy who had a losing overall record in 10 years with UTEP and Fresno St has produced these results. Who could have possibly seen that coming.

He is for sure done now. Only an elite 8 run could save him at this point and I am not sure how he is going to accomplish that from the NIT.

There were lots. How do I know, because I was called a racist and was shocked. So many "If his name was Terry Roberts, he would be getting the job no questions asked" and "You have to give him a shot because it would look racist not to"

I ain’t black but thought we had to hire RT.  Charlie was not a good hire and his press conference proved that.

also we have two games left.  If we sweep them we’re likely in.  So don’t pop the champagne yet

That's cute that you think making the tourney (we wont) as a fringe team would save Terry's job. He is cooked. You dont go down by 20 in every SEC game and keep your job. Dude is a shitty coach. Full stop.

Making the tournament won’t save his job. What on earth makes anyone think we win at MSST (couldn’t even beat South Carolina on the road) or beat OU at home (considering we got blown out by Georgia last night)?

we are uncompetitive in the SEC. That’s grounds to be let go

Idiotic media-driven hire but at least it’s over.  Hilarious that Bjork basically did the same thing at Ohio State and it is also failing.  Don’t hire the interim to replace a fired HC. Simple

We’ve pulled a couple of upsets in this league.   With my luck as a fan, we sneak in and make the second weekend somehow meaning more uncertainty.

but yes I think it’s 90% chance it’s over.  I would just like for it to be 100%

Yep, I recall you had major reservations him being hired.

Many had major reservations about him being hired, but he did perform fairly well in an interim role:

  • 22-8 (Beard Started 7-1)
  • Big 12 Conf Tourney Champ
  • Elite 8

Without the postseason run, he likely does not get hired.  Texas was 19-4 at one point and closed out the regular season at 23-8, losing its last 4 road games.

The biggest concerns were roster construction and in-game coaching.  Conventional wisdom (at the time) was that he helped construct the team and the postseason run seemed to indicate he had the in-game coaching down.  Time has told us that it was not true.  Texas will move on from him...

I agree it is frustrating to see Tre Johnson being squandered.

The guy is damn near a lock for SEC's leading scorer crown.  Alabama's Mark Sears will have to outscore Tre by 18 in his last 2 games to overtake him.  'bama plays UF and Auburn.  We play OU and MSU.  I like Tre's chances.

a good coach could have this team at .500 in the conference for sure.  They are undisciplined and poorly coached, especially on the offensive end.  Their D lately has been dogshit too.
