2024 Golf: Not even God can hit a 1-iron

Great recommendation, along with the stretching suggestion. I noticed last night that I was extremely dehydrated yesterday, hungry, and my shoulder/back was bothering me.  I think at the turn, I get a few minutes relief from the heat or maybe grab a quick drink, but by 16-18 I'm thirsty, tired, hungry, and cramping up in my shoulder and back. This makes a lot of sense.  Thanks for the idea. I'll give it a shot next time out.

Hope it helps! I also have started using LMNT or Liquid IV to help with hydration, I’ll drink the night before as well if I’m walking or it’s going to be hot/humid. Def also seems to help for me.

Playing a CTGA tourney at Lions. First lifetime ace! Sadly couldn’t see it go in, was behind the raised lip of the short right bunker.

158y, 5 iron.

I hate that hole, I never judge the wind right. Honestly Lions isn't a place where I usually play good which sucks because it's not that hard of a course.

I think it's just deceptively hard for some reason. Agree it feels like it is very gettable but then at the end of the day the score isn't there. The tourney I was in was net, and I had figured I was dead, but actually was a shot out of the money shooting a net 77 (def made my quad on 18, which is absolutely an easy hole, hurt a bit more). Lots and lots of people in all the flights shooting mid-70s to low-80s net, which is worse than the other tourneys.

Ouch. If I'm your caddy you're hitting a 6 iron on 18 in that situation. Such a stupid hole I agree.

Even the par 5s out there.....they seem so easy and yet I'm always having to make a par putt. The fuck man.

haha I had no idea where I was, no live scoring or leaderboards. honestly, my driver is probably more consistent than a mid-iron for me heh, holed out 5 iron notwithstanding. I went 7-6-6-6 on the par 5s, despite actually being over the water in 2 on 12 which always felt impossible to me.

For the love of God, someone help me. I used to be an 8 handicap 14 years ago but due to a variety of surgeries and injuries it took me until the last year to be able to swing the club regularly.

I decided about six months ago to give it everything I’ve got to see if I can get back down to a sub 10 handicap. The last few months I’ve steadily improved to the point where I now have one major re-occurring problem every round.

I always start the round okay, play lights out for several holes, then completely fall apart the last few holes (8-9) before the turn, get it back together for several holes then fall apart again the last few holes (16-18). Every single round.  It’s bizarre. Any idea what’s going on? I really don’t think it’s mental. It’s almost like I lose my swing during those specific holes. Something about the rhythm of the round.

I’m going the opposite direction of other replies. Something physical isn’t showing up on holes 8-9, resolving itself holes 10-15 and resurfacing 16-18.  Especially if you aren’t doing something midround to impact decline and improvement cycle. Sounds like someone grinding to get back to where you were and pressing when the prize is within reach. That’s a good thing. You’ll get comfortable with the pressure and then overcome it. You’ll be better for having done so. When shot my best side (32)and my best round (68), I was more proud of not screwing up the last hole or 2 than what came before. But I had to shit the bed several times and learn how to handle the nerves.
