Probably really cold.

I went a couple weeks before New Year's last year.  It wasn't like, god awful can't go anywhere cold, but it did snow a shit ton (which the locals said was rare, it was about half a foot of it in 1 day - but as a Texan, it was awesome).  it was some sort of "Code Red" level winter weather.

Still was a badass time.

Bump..Postponed my trip to this March.  Anyone have any comments on this hotel in Amsterdam?  Specifically location?   I have no interest in the red light district but I do have interest in the coffee shops

https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g188590-d10189658-Reviews-The_Arcade_Hotel-Amsterdam_North_Holland_Province.html

I've narrowed my Brussels lodging to one of many airbnb's in the general vicinity of the Grand Palace at around $65 a night.

Just started looking at a place in Bruges.  I think for one night Ill just go with a hotel.  Any particular area I should be looking?

Still need to tackle London now that I know the game will be at Wembley and not up north.

You'll be a ten minute walk from Foeder's, one of the best draft beer bars in the city. The owner's a complete Belgian beer geek, prices are not out of control. It's a fun place to while away an evening. You're also near Leeman Doner, one of the best super cheap Mediterranean joints in the city. You can eat here for about five bucks, and it's good. The best coffeeshop near the hotel is called Katsu.

It’s in De Pijp. Lots of cheap restaurants and bars. Young and hip. They’ll probably think you’re a cop, but cops in Amsterdam are cool.

That's a pretty good area  for Amsterdam. Not in the thick of everything, but that's good because you wouldn't see random stuff otherwise.

One night in Bruge is fine if you arrive fairly early in the day. Anywhere in the city center is good. It's small so you really can't go wrong unless you are picky about your accommodations. However I grew up in Houston. I love Houston. If i grew up on a farm, and was retarded, Bruges might impress me, but I didn't so it doesn't.

How is this location for Brussels?  Its $160 for two nights all in..Should I get a little closer to the grand palace?

Looks like there is a good beer spot Bier Circus right around the corner.

I'd get closer to the Grand Place.  Although there are some pretty neat little bars and restaurants right around the EU Commission Hdq.  I had an apartment within walking distance to the EU Commission.

Also, the Delirium Cafe is worth checking out with over 2,000 beers.  The Jeanneke Pis statue is just across from the bar as well.

We stayed at an AirBnB just north of the La Monnaie De Munt (on the same block).  There are a ton of restaurants in the area and there is an outdoor market place just north of it.  It's also an easy walk south to the Grand Place.

Also highly recommend the Delirium Bar.  Yes, it's kind of touristy, but Delirium makes some of the best damn beer in the world imo, and getting to drink it there out of a boot like a tourist asshole is my kind of fun.  Also met a lot of hot British and Spanish chicks there.

Doing Oktoberfest, Amsterdam and Brussels later this year with some friends. I've done Bruges before, but haven't been to Brussels. Bruges is worth a day, so I figure Brussels would be fine for a tack on city for my flight back. Only plan is to drink large quantities of that cherry beer and grab a 6-pack of Westy. Staying at the Intercontinental Amstel in Amsterdam and Crowne Plaza Le Palace in Brussels.

All I've got.

Agree on the Dilirium Cafe. This is right down the street from the Delirium Cafe as well.

Looks like I'm basically on top of the Delirium Cafe

If your last statement is true, then yes, that's where you want to be.

If you’re going with the wife, I would check a sex show. Seriously how often do you get to watch live porn with metal music playing in background while being served cold beer?  It’s a unique experience and you’re in Amsterdam so why not.

Solo traveler...My buddy bailed on me but this sounds like a must do.

Get high and go on a canal tour, see random museums, check out Dam Square, walk the red light just to see it. Everything is walkable...I remember looking at the map saying ‘man that’s a haul from here’ given all the canals to cross but it was literally 10 minutes away. We were stoned the whole time and it really helped the experience.

We hit up the Heineken brewery but it was not that great, too high tech...saw at least a dozen museums however.

Check out Brouwerij 't IJ, its a brewery in a windmill that has a fun tour. Heineken is a techie tour, but I didn't mind it and got a free canal ride afterwards. Beer sucks compared to the rest of Amsterdam.

Amsterdam:

Rembrandt museum is really good.  'The Nightwatch' is fantastic in person.

Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam is really nice as well:

Heineken factory tour was pretty solid way to start your day.  The Heineken is/was made near Amsterdam so it is fresh and much better than the bottled stuff in USA.  Drank a lot of it on tap while on my 10 days in Amsterdam.

Didn't make the Anne Frank House museum.

Did gamble at the Holland casino in Amsterdam about 3-4 blocks from the Hostel.

Laughing mushrooms were incredible.  Although I had never done them before nor since.  Did them with a group of hostel mates.  We walked the, what seemed like, whole city while flying if you know what I mean.  Best slice of pizza ever after about 1.5 hours in.

Smoking Hash mixed with MJ was an interesting high recommended by the hostel mates.  The Hash mellowed out the buzz.(again wasn't a big MJ person before the trip)

The MJ menus in the coffee shops were pretty cool.  You could see samples of what bud you were buying.

I stayed at the flying pig hostel but was 31 and single on my trip at the time which was fine.  I ended up staying 10 days after originally only planning on 5 then 5 in Sweden.  It was the last 10 days of a 30 day trip.  I did 20 pretty intense walking sight seeing days before Amsterdam so it was nice to chill there to end the trip.

Edit:  the women in Amsterdam all seemed 5'7" or taller and since they bike or walk everywhere they are in great shape.  Long legs, beautiful.

I'm guessing that Anne Frank is not as space cake appropriate as Rembrandt and Van Gogh?
To be clear, it isn't the Rembrandt museum that the poster upthread was talking about. He was referring to the Rijksmuseum which is where the Nights Watch is. It is also amazing from an architectural perspective.

Well I got a C in Art history but thanks for the clarification.  Really looking forward to this part of the trip.  Seems like my kind of town to visit

yea, get as close as you can to any of the Rembrandt works to see how thick he used the paint.  And see them from afar as well.  Stunning stuff to even an unwashed heathen as myself.(who did take a Dutch Art History class at UT as an elective)

The Rembrandt musuem was a dissappointment. It was mainly his old house. Meh. The Rijksmuseum has all his great paintings. It was good.

I’m a Van Gogh man myself. That museum was amazing.

Yea, I misspoke.  I linked to the Rijksmuseum but did mistakenly call it the Rembrant museum.
