Mays and Tice talked about how while he's probably a second tier interior DL in the league, he doesn't leave the field; played the most snaps at the position this past year, and the second most two years ago (while playing two fewer games than the leader)

Texans were top 3-4 in STs last year in the NFL, good to bring back one of the Top 5 kickers and a big reason the STs are special. Would love for the Texans to take a chance on Keilan Robinson with a late round pick to be a STs demon.

ESPN gave the Schultz resigning a B+. Said they would have had to use #23 to replace his production, but since they resigned him they can focus that draft capital in other areas. The reporter said he only had 2 TEs in the current draft rated as starters, most likely Bowers and Sanders. Bowers is unlikely to be there at 23 and that is a little high for Sanders.

Absolutely; Keilan’s got a chance to carve out a 10-year career in the NFL with his special-teams skill alone, and as a bonus he can line up in the backfield from time to time, giving you more roster flexibility…

That’s where I am on the signing; if this TE draft had the depth of last year’s it might be another story….

Very exciting time for Texans. Momentum is heading up at a very fast track. Got the right people in key spots. Football people are running the organization.

Fucking mind blowing how much the momentum has changed around this franchise since the last game of the 2022 season. Future looks really bright for a change.

I’d love to back up the proverbial Brink’s Truck for Chris Jones but that realistically wouldn’t be a good call right now. Wilkins is a really good player, and as the article notes  he’s durable as hell…

PSU’s TE Theo Johnson should be rated as a starter. He’s a dude

I also like the KSU TE in the Shanahan offenses

Newton is a popular mock to Houston, but he doesn’t fit what San Fran has gone after early since Shanahan has been there, and he doesn’t fit what NE/Hou have done early since while Caserio was at those places. I think Darius Robinson would be more likely

If they go pure edge, then Chop vs Latu is an interesting debate. I’d think they’d go with the cleaner medicals

If you could combine Chop’s athleticism and frame with Latu’s technical ability, football IQ, and motor you’d have a top 3 pick. To be fair, Chop has been lauded for his effort and Latu is not unauthentic, but there’s a reason each is in the discussion at 23….

too many spots to fill to replace that kind of production

There's an crazy number of average and above average starting safeties now on the market. Houston should be able to get at least one at a good value

Mays/Tice talked about free agency, and mentioned the Texans a few times

(going off memory)

- Should be players for the top DT (Christian Wilkins) who's going to be very expensive since every team with cap space will be after him, but if Houston doesn't land him, then Leonard Williams for 30% cheaper would make sense for Houston

- When asked which team could pay top of the market for the top safety rather than try to find value at the next tiers, Houston was mentioned first

- They don't like the Saquon Barkley fit, and think a zone running back who regularly gets you positive yardage makes more sense (like a Henry). Other than RB or a two-way backup TE, they didn't really mentioned Houston on offense

- They like Houston for a #3 rotational DE like Espinesa

- Teair Tart could be a nice upside roll of the dice for some teams, but Houston could bring him back

- They like Houston for a two-way Mike like Jordyn Brooks, or to a lesser extent Azeez Al-Shaair who has experience with Ryans

Lot of depth/rotation signings today - Desmond King, Eric Murray, Khalil Davis, and lifetime Longhorn Kris Boyd. Good to get some depth pieces out of the way before Monday. Only saw details on King; $1.8MM base/$2.2MM max, and his deal has to be the biggest of the four…

Would love to get to get a DL and S in FA, reup Greenard. Then get Worthy at 23.

Has the decision to not tag Greenard been explained? He might be a 1 year wonder. He’s 1 of the reasons they invented the tag, so he could prove himself for another year.

We are in a crazy good spot. We can clearly get a S in market, and choosing between Greenard or Wilkins then drafting the other spot is prime because both positions project elite options expected to be available at 23.

Im personally for Greenard, and drafting Newton if we’re lucky or ‘having to settle’ for Byron fucking Murphy at 23, which puts an exclamation on how prime our spot is right now.

I hate the idea of having to pay top dollar for Greenard. He's been great, but Demeco is a defensive guru and I hope they kind find cheaper options that can work.

And I have no clue about scheme/position fit, but Quandre Diggs is still a damn good safety and leader on that side of the ball. I hope they give him a look.

Replacement for Rankins?

Hopefully more depth/rotation but we’ll see. All of the smoke seems to be around us and Wilkins, in which case it seems likely Greenard is gone and we address the other DE slot in the draft. I do like the idea of putting a badass next to Anderson rather than across from him but we’ll see very soon..
