You think they're going to vote for a Holocaust movie to make an anti-Israel statement?

You think Hollywood is going to do that?

Caling for a ceasefire or to "stop bombing Gaza" and "help these poor people" is not anti-Israel, it's anti-war. 30,000+ dead is not something even the most pro-Israel Jews can ignore, especially when it's so one-sided. Glazer made some comments about how the movie is relevant right now, but would be relevant no matter when it was released, because humans continue to inflict suffering on each other. I would expect him to have the sense to speak to the issue with some intelligence and nuance to point the finger at the right culprit in this conflict, if he would get the chance to do so.

I don't disagree with you, but it isn't going to win. The gulf in those odds is just way too high.

Oppenheimer is also relevant right now and would be relevant no matter when it was released. The 2nd leading nuclear power in the world has been involved in a land war on their border for years now. We are currently testing the waters of AI and quantum computing that is basically the new A-bomb and may create a similar demarcation in world history.

I think Nolan is too accomplished and Oppenheimer is too good for it to not win. They LOVE any excuse to give someone like that their first win, and they don't need an excuse. He has 5 noms and 0 wins and is on a very short list of most important directors of the 21st century.

Braveheart was an upset? i feel like it was a safe bet. Apollo 13 was the only serious competition that year, Casino and Dead Man Walking weren't even nominated for best picture 🤔

I thought that was interesting as well. Here are the odds they pulled.

Maybe they didn't think they'd give Gibson a best picture?

Someone like @henrygandorf may know more.

just looked at the odds on my book.  a few weeks ago, gladstone and stone were both -110, now lily is -172 and emma is +135.  probably better value with emma as i think it's a tossup.  if there's a true upset, it could be giamatti, who has already taken down cillian a couple times, and is +600.  still think oppie sweeps through pretty much everything in its path.

Will be interesting if it wins but I bet Anatomy of a Fall takes Best Original. I saw someone say they should award Barbie for Adapted and Holdovers for Original and then let them switch awards.

I'm rooting for Oppenheimer landslide for most of the categories.

Poor things for set design, costume and makeup.

Henry Sugar / Wes Anderson for short film.

Zone of Interest for foreign film.

Other than that I don't care too much. It's always interesting to see what wins though.

Kimmel’s whole bit now is star fucking, and his monologue certainly delivered. Union town my balls. I’ve never been in a city so out of touch with reality.

I don't think Robert Downey Jr enjoyed his time in the monologue.

Didn’t seem like he did. Pretty overplayed and low-hanging fruit. Kimmel should have had better material for RDJ.

Watched Poor Things this afternoon. Enjoyed it.

So now I’ve seen all the BP nominees except Zone, Anatomy, and American Fiction.  Liked all I’ve seen with the lowest being Maestro but Oppenheimer my clear BP pick.

I follow the Oscars pretty closely but it didn't really hit me till a few minutes ago that Barbie's adapted screenplay nomination was based on "Barbie, by Mattel". Big lulz on that stretch, and I liked the movie a lot.
