Beshear and Walz are your best to lock up the Midwest. Cooper and Kelly are best for the sunbelt states (AZ, GA, NC), where Harris probably has the most upside.

Shapiro is risky too because he’s only been a governor for 2 years. Pritzker is a fat billionaire.

The actual best choice for Harris is Sherrod Brown but you can’t give up that red statre senate seat

Harris should pick multiple VPs. Why not? It will be just like a bank.

I don't know if I'd say that like that, but the polls have underestimated Dems big time since Dobbs.  The 2022 midterms, the 2023 specials, etc.  They keep telling us one thing but the results are different and then the pundits have to explain away how it means nothing.

In most of the races since Dobbs, the Democratic candidate has significantly over performed their polling.  It makes me think the polling is just bad anymore because who is actually answering a phone call from a stranger?  Also, people could just be lying.

Andrew Jackson and Kamala Harris have a lot in common.

First, they would be the only two presidents where neither of their parents were born on the mainland of America.

Second, like George Washington, Andrew Jackson did not have biological children of his own.

This may make MAGA’s heads explode.

Let’s talk about Trump’s effort at criminal justice reform. Why doesn’t he ever talk about the First Step Act anymore?

https://www.politico.com/news/2022/05/01/trump-republicans-first-step-act-00029104

Trump’s criminal justice reform bill becomes persona non grata among GOPers

When Donald Trump signed a long-sought criminal justice reform measure into law in 2018, he had visions of using the legislation to make major inroads with Black and moderate swing voters.

The First Step Act was not just hailed as a rare bipartisan achievement for the 45th president but as the beginning of a major shift in GOP politics, one that would move the party past the 1980s tough-on-crime mindset to a focus on rehabilitation, racial fairness and second chances.

Three-and-a-half years later, few Republicans — Trump included — seem not at all interested in talking about it.

With spikes in crime registering as a top concern for voters, Republicans have increasingly reverted back to that 1980s mindset. Talk of additional legislation has taken a back seat to calls for enhanced policing and accusations that Democratic-led cities are veering toward lawlessness.

Trump himself rarely, if ever, mentions criminal justice reform when he issues statements or gives political speeches, having grown convinced the First Step Act never produced the spike in support from Black voters that he expected.

That sums him up in a nutshell.  His attempt didn't curry him favor with the group he wanted, so now he pretends it never happened.

Hence why he moved onto pardoning rappers and fraudsters, like Amber Rose.

Agree with this premise and it's not worth the risk with Shapiro.

I hope Kamala's team is very patient with selecting and announcing the VP pick. Trump is gonna dump Vance. They have a legitimate built-in excuse, as they selected couch fucker against a Biden-Harris ticket. They need to "go in another direction" with Kamala at the top of the ticket. The longer Kamala waits, the longer Trump has to deal with all the negative Vance press and Kamala rising in the polls. Force them to make the new VP move first.

If you're just looking at the electoral map, this seems like a ding against him.  I think it's doubtful Beshear gets Harris Kentucky, which leads to the question of whether his regional appeal is enough to win any of the rust belt states.

By comparison on this point, Cooper arguably gives Harris at least the possibility of picking up a purplish North Carolina (though I'm not sure I give that better than a 50% chance).

The main knock against Shapiro, as highlighted in the New Republic article, is his position on the Israel/Palestine war (although the article seems to imply that any Jewish VP pick is risky).  I understand the need for Harris to make a safe pick, but is this really the single issue that can decide the presidential election?  Are those voters supporting Palestine so entrenched that they think a Trump/Vance administration is going to do them any more favors than Harris/Shapiro?

I'm not saying this as someone who thinks that Shapiro is the No. 1 pick.  But I question the New Republic's writer who believes a Shapiro VP pick could be fatal to Harris's chances of winning.

Short version:  What the fuck do I know?

Yep. It’s also revealing about how he thinks. Want to increase your popularity with black voters? Try criminal justice reform. Or pardon black criminals. Or suggest that they can identify with you when you’re prosecuted for your crimes. Because, you know, black people are criminals.

If Mark Kelly gets you Arizona, then he has to be the pick. I know he's well liked in that state and a lock for reelection in a few years, but the electoral math gets much easier if Arizona is in the blue column.  I also love his background as a Navy Pilot who was flying missions in Desert Storm, and as a NASA pilot who flew several shuttle missions and spent a good amount of time aboard the ISS. The contrast of someone who actually fought for their country and appreciates science with the fat fuck orange mongoloid who constantly shits all over both of those subjects will let the Dems have a field day with this campaign.

Oh and when Mark's wife was shot at a campaign event, nearly died and had severe brain injuries, he retired from NASA to go help her recover and do physical therapy instead of fucking porn stars and leaving her. The stark contrast and family values he can bring to the ticket would be a huge asset, and potentially set him up to be next in line after Harris.

And he's a graduate from a Service Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Heave Ho!

J.D. knows about addiction.  It's a big part of his best-selling book set mainly in opioid country in Eastern Ohio, Western PA, WV, etc.

It starts with a billowy Love Seat, then you're onto pleather sofas, and the next thing you know---you're at a 12-seat modular sectional orgy.

...it all started simply and innocently enough with the old familiar basement couch, but before long I found myself parking out of the way on my grocery trips, just so I could walk by the Scandinavia store.  Then is was a trip to Costco everyday-damn their liberal return policy. Soon after I was a full blown addict trying to plan family vacations around Rooms To Go Superstore locations and no payments for 6 months promotions.  But then I hit rock bottom....

I don't think that's his point.  The point is to stay as fucking vanilla (literally) as possible with the VP pick.

I think it’s a grave mistake to project the roughly 5k people in DC on a Wednesday at 2PM with an important demographic to reach or convince.

The whole issue is a loser either way and Kamala needs to tap dance as much as she can and try to shove it to the bottom of the conversation.  There’s no way it wins you the election but it might lose it; and the chances of losing it are stronger if you appeal too much to people on the streets.

Kelly is an astronaut.  Just pick him and have him wear his mission patch to debate JD.

How many Jewish votes does Harris lose by picking a gentile? How many Muslim votes does she lose by picking a Jew? Which number is bigger?

While this is mostly accurate keep in mind that Trump wasn't on the ballot and hard core MAGA only shows up when he's on it.

He is really great. Kinda OT but my former state rep James Talarico (redistricted out of my burb by the fascist Texas GOP) has a lot of the same qualities as a politician as Mayor Pete. I'd really like to see him have a higher profile in national politics because he's that good.

Are we neighbors? I've been Talarico's biggest cheerleader on this board for a while, and yea...it sucks to go from him to Caroline Harris.

It's not the whole US, it's Muslim voters in Michigan...a very important swing state.
