I don't agree. I think barring serious legal issues you can't coerce him to resign as it's a completely no win situation for him and he's a vindictive piece of shit.

Come on. This is the Trump GOP.   He will never, ever go against that.  He owes his political career to Trump, for if it wasn't for the endorsement in 22, he doesn't win that seat.

If he is forced out, he will be loyal until the death of Trump at the earliest.

My mistake thanks. I could have sworn they did.

When I was knee deep in this stuff professionally in the mid 2000’s because we were trying to figure out millennials the 61 vs 65 thing was a topic, because it related to whether millennials started at 77 or 80. The school of thought that I aligned to was that defining a generational cohort from a marketing standpoint is about the number of people that hold a loose common set of attitudes, assumptions, behaviors etc. For that reason I liked 64-80, coinciding with the Kennedy being shot and the election of Reagan.

There is no way that I am a millennial and I resent you for even raising the possibility.

If he’s forced out, Trump will burn/disavow him so he’s done either way.  If he agrees to drop out, Trump will still burn him as weak for doing it, even if he told him to do it.

Man, if Vance does have to drop out it will be poetic justice for yet another hypocritical shitbag who sold out his principles to grasp power through the snake oil of MAGA. And Junior will look yet again like dumb Fredo we all know him to be.

The weird thing about the Vance pick is he brought no upside, only downside.  He only appealed downscale white (mostly) men and that's Trump's only wheelhouse.  The only angle was that he was younger and Trump thinking he had this in the bag and having a younger VP would help carry on the agenda.  Seems rather arrogant in retrospect.

He also brought tech bro money via Thiel.

If he didn't get Burgum's personal wealth, having JDV tap into that money was probably the best bet.  Moreso now that Elon won't keep the $45m per month pledge.

Brings in zero new voters, has some particularly weird baggage, tough to listen to and tough to look at. Good call Dotard.

A no-win situation is completely torpedoing Trump's campaign. People smell blood and they will continue to effectively attack. He's on a path of ending his political career as we speak.

I hope you're right though and they stick with him.

He can say he did that on purpose to save the country from Hitler and it would be at least plausible.

A whole lot of this.  The Dems don't have to be stupid mean (the racism, sexism, etc. route of the GQP, and just flat out being assholes).  But they do have to fight back, by humiliating and shaming MAGA not for what they are (don't call them "the perfect embodiment of trailer trash," even though they are), but for what they do and say.  Because....they are weird freaks, who are fucking pointlessly mean and assholish.  Call that out, point at it, and visibly shake your head.  When your opponent is busy smearing shit all over himself, don't politely ignore it.  Point at him, say "what in the hell?  Why would anyone smear shit on themselves?  That's weird as hell."  Then shake your head and walk away.

Most people don't want to be associated with something that's just weird and mean (a lot do...it's pathetic, but it's true....but most people don't).  So, give them an avenue and permission to do just that, to look at MAGA and go "dude....no thanks.  Y'all are some fucked up shit."

I'm not sure that Trump is capable of having a woman as a running mate. JD was picked because Trump knows that he won't be disloyal in a critical moment for him like Pence was. I don't think there's any way that Trump can feel confident about Nikki Haley protecting him similarly. And what other woman could it possibly be from the the Republicans?

There are only two kinds of women in Trumpworld.  1) Women who are hot, who he wants to fuck (Melania, Ivanka, Noem).  2) Women who are ugly dogs, who he can only tolerate for short windows of time (every other woman).  That's it.  Women aren't human beings with agency to him.  They are, at best, ornaments and dick holsters.  They have no purpose or relevance beyond that.

DeSantis

I am not sure how late in the cycle one can change their residency.  Trump would have to, as both DeSantis and Rubio are elected officials for the state of Florida.

Cheney changed his late July 2000.

Yup, Trump miscalculated, he thought he had it locked up against Biden and wanted to run up the score and doubled down on MAGA and ignored swing voters.

Someone mentioned on twitter that if trunp canned Vance, Harris would have the argument that you can’t trust trump’s judgement.

I like that, although it’s always been true.

Does Walz help win the election from an EC perspective. Sounds like he solidifies MN but what does he do for PA, WI, MI, AZ, NC or GA? Curious on what the thinking is there.

Minnesota has a lot of WWC union voters like WI, MI, PA

Harris herself is what is opening paths with NC, GA and AZ

I mean, being in the GOP at this point categorically means full loyalty to Donald Trump. Look at Haley. Made a lot, a lot of noise in the primary and ultimately offered a whole-hearted endorsement. Trump is the platform, Trump is the party. Any female with an R by their name would ultimately pass this test.

It's legitimately more likely he doesn't think any of them are hot enough.

He wants you to still kiss the ring, even if you've shown disloyalty in the past. But you will never be trusted as much as someone who has been loyal the whole time.

You definitely can tie that into him claiming he doesn't know about Project 2025 or that he thinks some of it is ridiculous. Can we afford to take him at his word that he won't change his mind? Of course, not but this is your pitch to average voters and morons.

Exclusive: CNN survey finds 48 states say Harris can get on ballot instead of Biden, rejecting claim switch breaks state laws

https://www.cnn.com/2024/07/26/politics/harris-ballot-legal-obstacles-48-states/index.html

The election authorities of at least 48 states, both Republicans and Democrats, say there are no obstacles that would prevent Vice President Kamala Harris from getting on election ballots if she becomes the official Democratic presidential nominee, as expected.

The findings of a CNN survey of all 50 states undercut the claims of House Speaker Mike Johnson, who said both before and after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race on Sunday that there are legal “impediments” in some states to a party switching presidential candidates as the Democrats did. There was not a single state election authority that told CNN Harris would face a ballot issue as the official nominee; election authorities in two states, Florida and Montana, did not respond to requests for comment, but a review of the states’ ballot access rules suggests Harris is not likely to face an issue there either.

The legal impediments will be R legal goons filing shit and asking for injunctions until said shit can be heard. If they get a hack judge and happen to win something, all the better.

This.  Trump ran a play that did make SOME sense if you start with the assumption that he had a cakewalk to the White House.  Vance gave him 1) cred with the billionaire tech donor class, and Donny DOES like their money, and 2) would set up a second generation of MAGA to "carry on his legacy" (because Donny does grasp that his kids don't have what it takes to do that).  If you're going to win, those things help you gild the lily.

BUT...if you suddenly end up in a different, competitive race....Vance gives you very little to help in that respect.

TLDR; Vance wasn't a terrible pick for the race Trump thought he was in.  He's a pretty weak pick for the race that Trump actually ended up in.

Every one of those challenges will, for some mysterious reason, be filed in Amarillo in Judge Kacsmaryk's court....who will 1) find that a Federal Court in Texas absolutely, 100% has jurisdiction and is the proper venue for a challenge to the election procedures of each of the 49 states that are not Texas, and 2) Neither Harris nor Biden can appear on any ballot in any state, because Article II of the Constitution does not contain the words "Harris" or "Biden," and therefore there was no original intent by The Founders to allow either one of those woke communist fascists to run for president.  CASE.  CLOSED.

Again...I thought we were in the nest, in the trust tree?  Are we not?  Because all of this judgment is making me a tad uncomfortable.

Also, the other vibe I'm getting from Vance is that he should totally post on Surly.  He'd fit right in.

I hope you didn't get a shaming vibe from me - it's ok to be a weird little freak! Just don't be a fascist because you're ashamed of yourself. Ya know, along the lines of grindr going down in Milwaukee during the RNC while the republicans are trying to undo Obergefell

He can reach and connect with rural and suburban voters. He's a throwback character with modern sensibilities. You plant him in any room in America and he'll fit in. And he's found a viewpoint with MAGA that will resonate while still being delightful. It's a gift.

Pick someone like Shapiro and we maybe squeeze out a victory. The upside with Walz is a bigger movement and runaway victory.

At which point SCOTUS slow walks whether to grant cert and ultimately schedules arguments for next March, and after that Joe Biden has to decide whether to carry out some official acts to protect American democracy.

No way trump ever picks a female vp. His entire schtick is a bizzaro version oh hypermasculinity. Women are only sex objects to him. And the GQP wants to put those uppity sluts in their place. Which you need the power structure to consist entirely of white men. On the off chance he does somehow replace Vance it will absolutely be with a white purportedly straight “Christian” man.

I think we are just vibing but no, not really.  VPs have historically not moved the needle at all.  Agree that he solidifies MN but that's about it.
