Here’s a different perspective: fuck the people who demand left wing votes while supporting right wing / inhumane shit.

Or, fuck the people will sit out and hand an election to someone who will advocate for even worse inhumane shit abroad, and also implement inhumane shit at a massive scale here in the United States!

"Cool with genocide" seems more than a tad of a stretch. He, like the majority of Israelis, has strongly criticized Netanyahu. Shapiro's problems with the far left are because he also criticized them as racist (I think it was by comparing them to the KKK) and stopped legal protests.

Fair enough. But also legit for American progressives to recoil at an authoritarian governor shutting down protests.

But I guess it will be the far left’s fault for not supporting the Democratic establishment’s preferred authoritarian asshole. Or something.

How long until the internet fires up 100k bots to turn x into a scat porn site? I wish I knew how to do it and I would gladly help.

As someone who was raised as a republican, and registered as one until 2016, I just flat out do not agree with this at all.

Ah, okay. This is starting to make sense. You were awash in Republican propaganda while Clinton was in office, and the memory of GOP vitriol at the time is clouding your hindsight judgment.

The Republicans hated Clinton for reasons, even though Clinton passed numerous regressive pieces of legislation. Politics is weird that way. Opinions are often irrational and counterproductive.

He comes across as shallow and insincere.  Sorry I insulted your bro.

I'm not insulted, just surprised. He is a politician, I assume everything is to some degree insincere. But I had a very different response to it, so as I said, surprising.

Why does that matter? Supreme Court in- annex them.

I doubt it ever really mattered in the sense that it was changing anybody's vote, but it pissed off a lot of the gun nuts at the time, and was something I've seen brought up occasionally over the years as evidence that Trump was actually "weak" on protecting the 2A. Since the SC overturned the ban a few months ago, I'm sure MAGA is largely going to pretend it never happened, but it was a grievance the gun worshippers had with him for several years.

For me it was a lot of the polit-speak.  "Talking at instead of talking to".  I mean, that's the same thing.  It's like the commentators who loudly enunciate "the National Football League" (no doubt due to instructions on high).  It's just meaningless fluff, and he had a lot of it.

I think it's just a reaction to Walz speaking like a normal dude at a bar.  THAT'S refreshing.

Real talk: Vance being fucking tired of his kid yammering about stupid Pokemon shit and maybe losing it a bit and telling his kid to stop yammering about Pikachu is maybe the most human and empathetic thing I've heard about Vance.

Seriously, fellow dads.....tell me you never had such a moment with one of your kids, and I'll tell you you're a fucking liar.

I don't think that moment makes Vance shitty.  It makes him real and human.  Yeah, it's a shitty thing to do (you really SHOULDN'T lose it with your kid and tell them to STFU....but you probably also SHOULDN'T drink 14 cheap beers and piss off a public balcony while singing George Strait tunes at the top of your lungs, but man...let he who is without sin throw the first stone, amirite?)...but it's real.

Maybe I have, maybe I haven’t, but I wouldn’t tell that story to the fucking press.

My point is Clinton was right of center. He signed a lot of ridiculously regressive shit that caused a lot of harm to minorities and the working class. He had some progressive views, certainly. But he was right of center on balance.

This reminded me of an interview years ago with Buttigieg, where he said Republicans did such an effective job of moving this country right in the 70's/80's that Bill Clinton had historically conservative views as a Democratic President.

EDIT: Found it and timestamped

He’s right and the rightward shift of the Clinton-era Dems is a big reason why the working class was just waiting for an asshole like Trump to come along and promise them a return to the glory days.

Ah, yes, let’s get mildly insulting in some vaguely ad hominem attack and paint me as thoughtless and irrational. The true sign of someone making a point based on the merits of their position.

It sounds to me like Clinton ended up governing for all, not just his party. Although for those laws to pass they had to get voted to his desk. Governing for all, what a novel concept.

I’ll try to loop this back. Trump supporters are lost and/or mentally ill. You admit that you’ve made practical choices, so you understand the Get On The Bus theory of politics. Great.

I can’t reason with the lost or mentally ill. Write them off. So considering the stakes, if I can’t convince a far left progressive to vote for the less horrific candidate, even if it makes them sick in their tum tums, I guess they qualify as lost or mentally ill. Which, yeah, I blame them.

Relax. You’re the one who introduced your personal political history to justify your estimation of Clinton’s politics. I was just responding to that.

You’re a smart dude. If you haven’t done so, read up on Clinton’s record and reconsider whatever views you developed decades ago about his place on the political spectrum. There was a time when I thought he was a liberal hippy, too.

It’s not reality where a mid 6 figure payout gets coupled with an NDA for allegations of sexual harassment in the post Weinstein / Cosby era, with Trump paying Stormy Daniels and having her sign an NDA?

Trump will make a huge deal out of this and the fact that he’s been convicted of sexual assault will be lost on his followers and most of the media.

Yep. We have the moral high ground. Do not concede it with a scandal, it will be twisted into something really bad for Dems

Edit; because as we all know in politics, once you have to explain it, you’ve already lost the issue

I’ll start slow. Because until 5 minutes ago you thought he won by half a point.

1. Young (We’re Never Going Back)

2. 61% approval rating in Pennsylvania

3. Smart and well spoken and will rip JD Vance to shreds

4.  Electoral college

5. Centrist politics; good counter balance to attacks on Kamala and good fit for Pennsylvania

I think some people remember the Obama days very fondly so they find Shapiro's cadence soothing. I don't think he will have much appeal outside PA and he's got that MeToo problem

Shapiro won by 14 points. But Mastriano was a historically bad R candidate.

He was also Trump’s hand picked historically bad candidate. That would carry weight I think with voters with that fresh in their mind.

Communications upgrade cannot be overstated.

Good NBC article today on the transition from Biden to Harris. The communications from The campaign back this up:

“This is, let’s take Trump down once and for all," said a person with close knowledge of the process around Harris. This person, like others in this story, requested anonymity to speak candidly.

Article if you want to read it. Some good stuff

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/harris-campaign-big-new-hires-sprint-election-day-rcna164383

She has already struck a different tone than Biden both on the stump and in ads. While Biden framed November as a fight for democracy, Harris is already talking about it in terms of freedom. Several Harris aides cast it as the same pillars of messaging, but with a different messenger.

She is focusing on issues Biden hadn’t, according to one person close to Harris, including that children should not live in poverty and that there should be economic opportunities to get ahead, not just get by. Two people close to Harris’ strategy said the vice president is also focusing more on “freedom” instead of “democracy.” Freedom is meant to encompass a spectrum of issues: security, reproductive rights, voting and living one’s life.

No big deal

As Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro steps into the limelight as a potential running mate for Vice President Kamala Harris, his record on handling sexual harassment claims against his aides and political allies is coming under tighter scrutiny. This week, the National Women's Defense League issued a statement warning that Shapiro, whose administration paid $295,000 in taxpayer money to settle a female government employee's complaint against a former aide, had enabled sexual harassment and reflected his office's "failures."

In the May 2023 complaint against former Secretary of Legislative Affairs Mike Vereb, who was accused of making crude and sexually charged remarks, the female employee accused Shapiro's office of pushing her out of a job for coming forward. After the settlement and ensuing non-disclosure agreement, Vereb remained in Shapiro's cabinet until September of that year, when he abruptly resigned as news outlets obtained the public records and prepared to report on the complaint that was filed with the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission.

No glad handing in Houston after her event the other day. She made her speech and left. I'm wondering if that was as a result of Trump's attack or just her style. Very different from Biden.
