A majority of Black voters are just as excited or more this year as in 2008, when then-Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) became the first Black president, according to new polling.

A survey from the NAACP, in partnership with HIT Strategies and Hart Research, found that 78 percent of Black voters feel the same sense of excitement as when Obama first ran, with 56 percent being more excited now than in 2008.

The early evidence indicates that Secret Service agents spotted a suspicious man with a gun at a wood line, a person familiar with the investigation said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to describe the early stages of a sensitive investigation.

So far, officials do not have evidence that the person fired any shots, but they are still investigating, the person said. Seeing that threat, agents fired at the man. He dropped what he was carrying and fled in a vehicle, which was later stopped by local police, and he was taken into custody, the person said.

The armed suspect was spotted by a member of Trump's Secret Service team two holes ahead from where the president was golfing, on the edge of the course, multiple law enforcement officials told CBS News. The suspect fled the scene, jumping into a car after he was engaged by Secret Service agents with multiple gunshots. A car with the same license plate number was stopped in Martin County, north of the golf course, and one individual was taken into custody, the officials said. An AK-47 style weapon and scope were recovered at the scene by the golf course. https://cbsn.ws/4ddqsyB

Seventeen former staff members of the late Republican President Ronald Reagan are endorsing the Democratic nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris.

In a joint statement first obtained by CBS News, the staff members wrote that Reagan, if alive, would have supported Harris.

"President Ronald Reagan famously spoke about a 'Time for Choosing.' While he is not here to experience the current moment, we who worked for him in the White House, in the administration, in campaigns and on his personal staff, know he would join us in supporting the Harris-Walz ticket," the group writes. "The time for choosing we face today is a choice between integrity and demagoguery, and the choice must be Harris-Walz," the group added. "Our votes in this election are less about supporting the Democratic Party and more about our resounding support for democracy."
