The kamala podcast strategy is intriguing and even the Trump team dipped their toe in with an interview with Dave Ramsey. Couple thoughts.

  • if this helps Kamala, it could be the death of Sunday morning and cable interviews. Or at least they will be deprioritized.
  • these podcasts give the ability to show your human side with a long form format, if you can handle it.
  • I have to wonder if Mark Cubans recent podcast interviews isn’t a coincidence.
  • Call her daddy and Stern can both be sex filled talk but the hosts would stay away from that. Call her daddy can gotv with young, college aged women. Maybe stern can break down a few open minded non-college blue collar workers. Hes clear on his support of Dems so his loyal listeners at least tolerate that. Or change the channel

It's just a resolution, not a law, so it doesn't require anyone to do anything.  It has also just been introduced.  Lunatic legislation like this gets introduced all the time.  See, e.g. Greene, M.T., Boebert, L, and Gosar, P.

So even if passed, it's a fart in the wind.  But it is a pretty clear statement of intention.

I’m not a particularly religious person, but if I was, wouldn’t it seem like a pretty strong sign that God has slammed two hurricanes straight into the state where one of the presidential candidates currently lives?

I guess you can just wipe that away by claiming Democrats can control the weather…

I want Harris to blow out Trump and a part of me wants MAGA to believe that it was rigged.  I want them to believe that no matter what they do, it's rigged against them, and so they should just fucking give up.

This is the dream

"Normal" Republicans finally have to acknowledge what a loser Donald Trump is, and take steps to try to break away from MAGA.

MAGA because disillusioned by the overwhelming power of the deep state and goes back to their shanties to become non-voters (for anyone but Trump) once again. The true believers wage war on the RINOs in the GOP who betrayed their god.

Profit.

Exactly.  MAGA is going to cry even if Trump lost another 60 lawsuits like he did in 2020, so let them believe it was rigged and that it will always be rigged.  Maybe they will quit showing up and the more moderate Republicans get control of the party and we go back to people like Romney, McCaine, Dole, etc.

Yes, but, also a nasty civil war between the MAGA true believers and the ones who were just doing it to get elected.  They can recover electorally in the 2030s.

A part of me wonders if they’ll just fade into the woodwork and spend their time on social media and Fox News.  With Trump retreating back to Mar-a-Lago, they won’t be as enthused.   Hell, it was probably hard for them to fill the Pennsylvania rally this weekend.

He will continue to rile them up and keep them engaged - either with 4 years of "I am being persecuted and the 2024 election was stolen from me!" nonsense or by immediately declaring himself a candidate for 2028 the day after his loss in November to avoid his court cases.

He will not go away until he dies.  If he declines to run (ha), he will force every single person who wants to run in 2028 against Harris to come to MAL and kiss the ring and dance for his endorsement.  He holds those MAGAtards hostage and no one is else in the GOP is getting elected in 2028 without them.  And let's be real, he will have them all do their little tap dancing for his endorsement before he just gives it to Don Jr. or something.

Unless he dies before 2028, I find it hard to believe the GOP will put up much of a fight against Harris in her re-election. It will be 82 year old Trump, doddering around in a soiled diaper and drooling, while the MAGAtards cheer and more women and suburban, college educated people flee the party.  (So not much difference from 2024)

Just remember, if by some chance the GOP does not take the Senate in 2024, 2026 doesn't look great for them - North Carolina, Maine, Alaska, Texas.  GOP would have one target (Georgia).

Yeah, four years is a long time when you are that age. He already at the old man yelling at clouds stage. Hell, he could be running around on a scooter at that point. No way that body can take that weight for much longer.

I hope they run Trump out again in 4 years.  He's not going to be able to speak at all by then.

And the media will never demand his medical records. Remember Hillary’s pneumonia? Oh lord was that a scandal.

All of this.  There is no Republican party any more.  None.  Zero.  It is the cult of Trumpism, everything else has been pushed out/destroyed.  Stop believing that there's any "return to sanity" or some shit.  There won't be.  Ever.

Yup. If nothing he does will weaken his 45% support, then aging won’t either.

May least it would lay bare the craven thoughtlessness of his support, as they either continue to agree with the completely incoherent mumblings of a man who is completely senile, or explain away what he “means” when he says he tasted his own poop, or that he’s still better than any democrat.

How crazy is it that the last time Donald freaking Trump wasn't the republican nominee for president, was 2012. Mack Brown was still coaching here, FFS. For two more seasons. That's how long they've hitched their wagon to this insane evil conman.

Legendary Texas Republican makes shocking Harris-Trump prediction about ‘afraid’ GOP voters

https://www.nj.com/politics/2024/10/legendary-texas-republican-makes-shocking-harris-trump-prediction-about-afraid-gop-voters.html

Quote

Former Tarrant County Judge Glenn Whitley — a life-long member of the Republican Party who served from 2007 to 2022 — has been one of Texas’ most prominent Republicans.

And as the November elections approach, he sounded a warning: He is voting for Vice President Kamala Harris over former president Donald Trump, and while he’s announcing his break with the party publicly, he believes many Republicans will vote for Harris in secret.

FTC Bars Hess CEO from Chevron Board in $53 Billion Merger Over OPEC TiesFTC Bars Hess CEO from Chevron Board in $53 Billion Merger Over OPEC Ties

“There are a lot, I think,” Whitley said. “They’re afraid to come out, because when they do, they get ridiculed and they get bullied and they get belittled. And so a lot of people who have been staunch Republicans and still are staunch Republicans, are afraid to stand up and be confrontational with some of the leaders that we have right now.

“It’s going to be close, but I truly believe that that a lot of Republicans are going to go into that booth and say, ‘I can’t support the insurrection.’ ... I have talked with a number of people who I believe will do that, and they may not openly come out and say, ‘I’m voting for Harris,’ or they may just not vote.”

When it comes to Trump, there are a lot of reasons for Republicans to reject him, but also good reasons to vote for Harris, Whitley said. While Trump holds a four-point lead in the latest Texas polls, Harris is leading in most battleground states, but many polls are within the margin of error.

“Trump has constantly belittled and, you know, bullied people,” Whitley said. “He’s disrespected our military and our vets, he was convicted of paying hush money to a porn star. And then the thing that broke the camel’s back for me was the insurrection on Jan. 6.

“And so that’s the reason I wouldn’t vote for Trump, but the reason that I will support and vote for Harris is the fact that I do believe she wants to lift people up.”

Whitley said he believes that Harris will govern with an open mind, just as she changed her position on fracking by learning more about it. Harris also has said she would include at least one Republican in her cabinet. Former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney, who has endorsed Cheney, could be considered.

Whitley — who also said he also was rejecting Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and voting for Democrat and former NFL player Colin Allred — believes Trump still will win Texas, but said disenfranchised GOP voters might help swing other battleground states to Harris.

Whitley added that he’s concerned about Republicans again trying to steal the presidential election, and the election lies Trump, MAGA and elected GOP officials are likely to spread.

“I am concerned about the rhetoric we’re going to hear leading all the way up to the election,” he said. “And just as importantly, the days after the election.”

The Call Her Daddy episode was solid.  More of a conversation than anything.  I like how Cooper (the host) framed it.  She said that the topics were going to be relating to women and young people and if you want to hear about economics, fracking, etc. she's probably not the right one to be talking about that.

I'm glad most of the mainstream media has finally backed off on trying to "understand" or humanize trump supporters. 2016-2018 was like non-stop visits to diners full of opioid addicts and social security recipients.

It's time to jettison these people. Give them the freedom they think they want.

Well, duh.

https://popular.info/p/trump-held-a-contest-to-join-him

Trump held a contest to join him on stage at his rally in Butler. Was it a scam?

Quote

In a series of fundraising appeals, Trump offered his supporters a chance to appear with him on stage during an October 5 rally when he returned to the site of his attempted assassination, Butler, Pennsylvania. These solicitations were sent to the Trump campaign email list, which reportedly includes tens of millions of people.

"I’d love to bring you up on stage for my Butler rally!" was the subject line of a September 2 fundraising email from Trump. "Can we take a picture together during my rally in Butler, Pennsylvania?" Trump asks in the body of the text.

Quote

Trump sent emails promoting the contest on September 10 ("I want YOU right there by my side when we make history again"), September 28 ("I’ll be hand-selecting my VIP guest for this historic rally in just 72 hours, so if you want to be considered, please chip in $5 or more right away"), and October 1 ("[T]he crowd is going to LOVE YOU when you're introduced as my VIP guest).

Trump held his rally in Butler on Saturday, and the only person he introduced on stage was Elon Musk.

Spoiler

There was no sign of a contest winner at any time during Trump's lengthy appearance at the rally — from the moment Trump took the stage to when he left almost two hours later.

It's possible, of course, that a winner was selected and met Trump privately. But that was not the prize that was promised in Trump's emails.

Was it all a scam? The Trump campaign seems sensitive to this criticism. The bottom of Trump's October 1 email promoting the Butler contest invites supporters to "MEET OUR PREVIOUS CONTEST WINNERS." It includes a photo of Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and two supporters at the Miami Grand Prix held in May.

But there could not have been a contest to meet Trump at the Miami Grand Prix because, according to USA Today, the race organizers "did not disclose before the race if Trump would attend for security reasons." A database of Trump's fundraising appeals contains no mention of the Miami event.

The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

Trump's dubious contests during the 2020 campaign — and beyond

During the 2020 election cycle, Popular Information identified 21 contests to share a meal with Trump at various locations. The tactic was cribbed from former president Barack Obama's election strategy; Obama held a series of contests for "Dinner with Barack." Each meal with Obama generated extensive media coverage, with detailed information about the attendees. There was no information, however, about any of the winners of Trump's contests. Nor did any winners post pictures of their meal with Trump on social media.

One contest promoted a meal with Trump in Chicago on October 23, 2019. Popular Information contacted the pool reporter traveling with Trump that day, the Washington Post's Anne Gearan, and asked if she had heard anything about Trump's meal with a contest winner. She had not and put in an inquiry with the campaign. The campaign never responded.

Popular Information's report was picked up by Vanity Fair and other national publications. Soon thereafter, the Trump campaign began promoting an article from the right-wing Daily Caller that supposedly debunked Popular Information's reporting.

But the Daily Caller article only addressed one contest for a meal. Joanna Kamis "won" a breakfast with Trump in New York City on September 26. She did attend a breakfast in New York City on that day but Trump did not attend. Instead, Kamis was "able to mingle with the likes of Donald Trump Jr., Kimberly Guilfoyle, and Elizabeth Pipko." In other words, that contest was a fraud. (Later, Kamis took a photograph with Trump.)

There is still no information about any of the other "winners" of the contests for meals with Trump during his 2020 campaign. The fact that the Trump campaign put the Daily Caller in contact with Kamis and no other contributors raises serious questions about whether anyone else won.

The Trump campaign did not comply with requests to release the names of the winners of its 2020 campaign contests — from both Popular Information and the New York Times — even in cases where disclosure was required by state law.

Trump's political operation continued to promote contests for meals with Trump beyond the 2022 election cycle. In March 2022, the Washington Post reported that Trump's leadership PAC, Save America, "sent at least 15 emails in recent weeks offering small-dollar donors the chance to win a coveted prize if they gave money: dinner with Trump in New Orleans last Saturday."

But, the Washington Post reported, "no such winner was flown to New Orleans last weekend, according to four people familiar with the matter." Instead, Trump met with "a handful of Republican Party donors who gave large checks, taking pictures with some of the party’s most well-heeled members and speaking to a larger group of donors who each gave tens of thousands of dollars." A Trump campaign spokesman said that "due to an administrative error in this individual circumstance, the contest winner was not properly notified for last weekend’s event in New Orleans."

The Washington Post also "asked Save America to provide winners for other contests it has held, which included meeting the president at a rally in South Carolina this weekend, meeting Trump at his palatial Florida club last year, playing golf with Trump and Georgia Senate candidate Herschel Walker in Palm Beach, or receiving commemorative memorabilia — such as a football signed by Trump and Walker, a College Football Hall of Famer." Save America "declined to comment."
