"wait, did I miss something? how is there tax on loan interest?"

I guess he is saying he would make car loan interest deductible. but that is already largely available for anyone with a brain.

but yeah, please explain how he is going to pay for any of that! oh yeah, we are back to trickle down economics. the thing we all know that doesn't work.

Probably?   Not to brag, but I’ve seen Spartacus and I, Claudius - and I don’t recall any of the Romans walking around with their personal shit sponge sticks in holsters

Don’t you understand? He is trying to reduce the deficit by not taxing a significant amount of income. he will make up for the lost tax revenue by placing tariffs on Chyna!

I mean, I love salt. Very good on lots and lots of food, if I have to be honest.  Not so much milk and other dairy foods, though.  But I just don't, you see, when Biden was president he didn't care about this, not really.  And now our country is really suffering, horribly.  And you look at our airline industry, very bad shape.  You used to get a free meal, and now they just throw peanuts at you.  Really sad if you think about it.  And I once saw a plane take off, and then five seconds later, have to land, because of, I don't know, some kind of an issue, maybe with the pilots, or the landing gear, something like that.  We need to fix this, really.  And you don't hear Kamala talk about this at all.

I know I sound like a broken record, but I really don't feel like dealing with another popular vote win/EC loss. Mainly because I don't trust the Democratic Party to push for reform.

I mean, the 2012 polls were worse than the 2016 ones by far.  Like 3 points to the right nationally and 2-5 points to the right in the states.

Nobody talks about 2012 being a huge polling error showing Romney doing way better than he ended up doing.

A lot of people, except Nate Silver/538, thought Obama was toast.  2012 put him on the map.

Also I still don't understand what you think the Democratic Party can do to reform the EC - you aren't getting enough votes to overturn the 12th amendment, so it's here until the first time the GOP wins the PV and loses the EC and then suddenly you may have consensus to do away with that.  And with the way CA/IL/NY votes, the GOP isn't going to win the PV anytime soon.

It's always pissed me off that student loan interest deduction is capped and subject to pretty low phaseout. I'd push to make it unlimited regardless of other student loan relief.

Also re: eschewing traditional media interviews -

Walz was on GMA this morning and god damn, Michael Strahan is seriously regarded for asking Walz why VP Harris hasn't implemented any of her campaign's policies the last 3 years.

Um, because she's not the fucking President?  Just straight up repeating GOP talking points.

Why don't the Democrats get enough GOP votes to end the GOP winning the Presidency?!

In order to deduct car loan interest I assume one would have to itemize.  But given his previous tax provisions, a much larger percentage of people take the standard deduction instead.  So they'll end up getting nothing out of it.  But I'm sure magats will crow about their tax cut on their monster truck loan interest and still fill out a 1040EZ with a standard deduction.  Take that libtards!

Trumps senility and decline in health is beyond anything Biden displayed and yet here we are. Not relitigating he’s drop out and Harris nomination I’m all in on that just befuddled trump is still allowed to hang on.

The average moron (and to be clear, all of here at Surly are above average morons) who is completely tuned out of politics or news in general, doesn't realize The doTArD is senile because they don't see endless clips of his senility from twitter or tik tok like we do. And in the brief glimpses they do see, he seems vigorous, or at least more vigorous than Biden. If you watch them speak with the sound off, The DOTarD looks like he is in better health.

While amusing and fun to laugh at, doTARd's failure to speak coherently isn't changing anybody's mind.

I just heard a story on NPR yesterday (I think it was yesterday) that said she is not doing well with black males under 50.

I'm no sunshine pumper, you know this, but....oh noes.  Perhaps sub-optimal support among literally the lowest-turnout voting demographic in the country.  The "young black male" vote is only slightly larger than the "bakers of Albanian ancestry who are also Cleveland Browns fans" vote.  Kinda seriously.  Black women show up and vote.  Young black men...not so much.

Biden's big problem was his speech mannerisms, which made him sound like a really old man.  He was actually quite capable of putting together coherent thoughts on policy and his administration's accomplishments.  He did slip up on a country or person here or there, which wasn't great, though it was at least in the greater context of some sensible communication.  But it just made us cringe at times when he was trying to say those things, especially the June debate when it mattered the most.

By comparison, yes, Trump appears vigorous, but for the past 2-3 months he's seemed incredibly low energy and even confused about his own ramblings and what he's trying to say.  Yet, for some reason, there's been nowhere near the media questions about his mental fitness.

A lot of the Biden concerns can be traced directly back to the Democrats. You know….people who don’t just blindly close ranks and try to bury/cover up potentially massive problems

And I’m talking about the supporters as much or more than the party apparatus.

The NYT Daily podcast had an episode earlier this week about the effects of NAFTA, specifically dialed in on the example of the MasterLock factory in Milwaukee which finally closed in March after decades of downsizing and disinvestment in favor of their Mexico plant.  They interviewed a black man around 40 who had worked there his entire adult life, rising to supervisor but now facing bleak job prospects.  Despite all that he still says he won't vote because "none of the candidates care about me" - but said if he HAD to vote it would be for Trump because "he's a businessman, and he's gangster".

To that point, Harris appears to be polling better than Biden did among white people (and particularly white people over the age of 45.

If you tell me that Harris is picking up even 2 points among white people over 45, then I don't care if she drops 20 points among Black men.

So basically the reason turnip is going to Colorado (today), California, and Illinois is because they believe the crowds they will garner in these blue areas (due to being forgotten because the state is going blue regardless) will look crazy and massive when they clip it for social media.
