There’s no way 45% of the country is that racist / sexist.

Do you think the fact that you are a very wealthy physician and businessman has anything to do with that?

Yeah.....and among the non-voting portion of the population, a shitload are ignorant racist pieces of shit who aren't even intelligent enough to get out and vote.  It's 45%....and honestly, likely more.

Just now, ChiTownDoc said:

Sure.  There’s a ton of racists / sexists.  10’s of millions.  I still don’t buy 30%+.

Way underbidding.  The problem is that folks define "racism" solely as "genuinely hateful, would burn a cross in a yard" types.  No.  Racism didn't just include Germans who actively wanted to exterminate jews.  It also included all the Germans who were aware of the hatred, and were willing to go along with it because hey, they're jews.  In fact, it's the second group -- the group that is willing to go along with it and support leaders/parties who are actively making it happen -- that is ESSENTIAL for the worst aspects of a racist society to manifest.

And yes, there is cognitive dissonance and inconsistency within countless individuals.  "Good and decent guy, would give you the shirt off his back, goes out of his way to help people" is also the "and he also believes we should mow down brown people at the border till the Rio Grande runs red" guy.  Any of us who grew up in the south knew the anti-black version of that guy.  Shit, that guy might even go out of his way to HELP some black people ("Jim's a good fella, he's worked at the hardware store for years, I want to help him out while his wife is sick")....while demonizing black people as lazy and inferior in literally his very next breath.

Racism is much more ingrained, pervasive, and even passive than people want to think.  We are not nearly as good a people as you want to believe we are.

What you're experiencing is the last vestiges of what I would call...habit. Texas always prided itself on being friendly, open, welcoming people. You cant rub that out of everyone's subconscious in just one generation, but we're trying really hard to do such. OK is probably similar. And just becuase they smile to your face, possibly through their teeth, doesn't mean they aren't resenting your brown money'd ass with a hot fucking wife they should be theirs, and shaking their head that the world has gone mad.

You're making the mistake of thinking that these people, who are fundamentally corwards, would spit in your face and wear their distate for all to see. But they won't becuase they're cowards. They don't have the balls to show you what they think of you to your face. They closest they can get is how they vote and waving a Trump flag around becuase it offers JUUUUST enough of a veneer of plausible deniability.

And I'd like to point out that you saying propoganda works means...they believe the boogeyman. That's tacit agreement that they're racist and sexist. Just because they're also pussies who revert to the habit of being cordial doesn't mean they're good people. Evangelicals say they do their horrible virulent shit in the name of God. Do you believe that too?

I'm not sure what makes you think that the demographics of virulent racist would be somehow different for the non-voting portion of the country. If anything, it might be way fucking worse. 45% seems fine.

One of the main pro-Trump field operations has not raised as much money as it set out to, per new campaign-finance filings. The super PAC Turnout for America aimed to raise $45 million for a ground game, but it raised only $18.5 million through the end of September. The group was set up by allies of Senator JD Vance of Ohio.

As I got older, I found more White people who will exhibit microaggressions towards myself and other Blacks/Latinos while simultaneously having Black Lives Matter and LULAC/Cesar Chavez posters hanging up in their offices.

I don’t know what that means so y’all need to figure it out

Not complicated:

People think that virtue-signaling thus gives them carte blanche to be shitty.

It's the more refined version of someone being racist as shit and then saying "but I can't be racist, I have black friends."

All joking aside, you work in Academica, a Che Guerva poster is probably just signal switching or some shit so they don't get ridiculed at work parties.

There's some of that, but also plenty of people who genuinetly respect the dark skinned minority that made it to the board room or otherwise succeeded, but use it as evidence that institutional racism doesn't exist. If this guy made it, it just proves that the rest of "them," you know those on the north side, are just lazy and predisposed to being criminals/hoodlums/thugs/etc. In my experience, there's far more of that going on in Oklahoma. The "I have a Black friend/co-worker" form of racism.

I used to sort of intellectually attempt to distinguish between the two, but I don't think there's much difference.  If you other them in any way based on skin color, it's racist.

If you ever want to know how much of the country is racist, just listen to children. They'll gleefully parrot the racist shit their parents say without filter because they haven't learned subtlety yet. Frankly only hearing 1/3 of an elementary school room saying insanely racist shit full chest would be shocking to me. Example: "The problem with basketball is there's too many black people."

Asked directly to respond to a recent report that he had spoken with President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia as many as seven times since leaving office in 2021, Trump said he would not “comment on that,” but that it would be a “smart thing” if he did it. “I’m trying to deal with people,” he said. “If I have a relationship with people, that’s a good thing.”

Trump is clashing with John Micklethwait, the editor in chief of Bloomberg, over the economic impact of tariffs. Trump insists that they will encourage companies to move factories back to the United States without raising costs for consumers — which is an argument many economists disagree with. But Trump counters that if you make tariffs “so high, so horrible, so obnoxious,” factories will come right away.

Stupid is as stupid does: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trumps-bizarre-music-session-reignites-questions-mental-acuity-rcna175464

Quote

Generally speaking, Trump supporters in attendance said they enjoyed the moment and saw it as a chance to connect with their preferred candidate for president.

“I loved it,” said Jay Bauer, who was in attendance from Montgomery County. “I felt like I was sitting in a room with him. Just him. I could have been here another hour, another two hours. I was just great spending time with the president.”

Bauer’s wife, Janice Bauer, said she expected him to “take more questions,” but her opinion of Trump has not changed.

“I thought he would talk longer,” she said. “However, I still will vote for him. I think he’s a very good candidate … the concert was great.”

Yes. Becuase I'm sure whenever he played football at whatever prep school he attended at any level were playing kids from "bad neighborhoods."

I also doubt he played tight end.  It wasn't really a position until the 50s, and I doubt you would have seen it much at the high school level.  It is also unlikely there were many players lifting weights.  My stepdad played for the Cornhuskers in the early 50s and weightlifting was prohibited for fear of making the players "muscle bound."

So yeah, all of that is just bullshit he invented on the spot based on what he understand about football today.

/s just in case.

I don't really distinguish between the two. The DEI conversation is also appropos. The entire republican party is of the opinion that DEI is bad, and the majority will always feel somewhere inside that minorities that suceed were because of affirmative action, etc. That's a huge percentage of people. If it was a small percentage, major corporations would just ignore them, but they are actively killing off their DEI programs, which itself tells you all you need to know about how widespread this shit is among the American population.
