In Biloxi?!

Career?  He’s a chain-smoking, barely paid loser who never climbed past market 190.  At least some people fail upward.  He just languished in a shithole market.

It’s slow going, and people are split between BluSky, Mastodon, and Threads.  And Threads/Mega are dragging their feet in a few key features - embedding is now possible but it relies upon third parties to update their software, but they are still refusing to do DMs (telling people to pop back into Instagram for that). They are also sticking to only one hashtag which is annoying.

I like the discussions in threads - because of no advertising, there’s fewer bots and lots of people just talking.

What's interesting about Threads is that it's a carry over thirst trap from Instagram but much more localized. I'm not saying it's like shooting fish in a barrel but it's like shooting fish in a barrel.

This shit. This shit right here. All of it.

It's why this country is heading into a dark age at absolute best, regardless of who wins the election. Trump may or may not win, I honestly have no idea (gun to my head - he does, we simply cannot have nice things). But this shit is too far gone.

Granted maybe this list wasnt 7 people long, but hasn't this been the case for a long fucking time? I don't buy into the doom and gloom here. Media magnates have always existed.

I disagree and really was hoping for her to go on there.  Shit ton of young males need to be reached plus the Tik Tok crowd. We can't keep ignoring this demo.  And she's  tough enough to brush back any bullshit he might ask.

I sadly know a lot of moderate types that listen to JR bc "he has interesting guests." I'm talking otherwise fairly progressive people  including a dude that had Tim Walz as an teacher in HS.

I think it would have created a lot of positives.

I generally agree with this sentiment, but if Joe Rogan can't accommodate the sitting Vice President of the United States by agreeing to reasonable terms - whether that be studio security, acknowledging there are going to be some questions she cannot answer, arranging a remote interview, whatever - then he can kiss VPOTUS's ass.

For the record, again, we have no idea if any of this happened because the source is the Travis County GOP clown.

That nonsensical post implying Harris is afraid of a Rogan interview for some reason is ridiculous and there's no reason to give it any credence. In fact Rogan said himself today that he's still trying to accommodate Harris.

Jesus it's insane that this election is even close. It was sickeningly astonishing the first time Trump won, but for Americans to put him in office again after everything he's done is just a big middle finger to the concept of responsible, democratic government. Voting for Trump is not an act of ignorance anymore, it's an act of malice.

Dick Fucking Cheney has publicly supported Kamala Harris, as have a shitload of other high-profile Republicans. Shit, the mayor of Oklahoma Fucking City just came out yesterday.

That means there's going to be a shitload of Republicans who *quietly* vote for her (or just don't vote).

Hell, .Republicans I know have said they are voting for Harris.

If you’re a regular slate reader, your concern might be tempered by the fact they’ve run a “this is the end of the republic as we know it” article daily since 2007.

Apathy is the enemy moreso than Trump the Bloviator.  In 2000,  if only 10% more registered minority Democrats had made their way to the polls in this punkass backward state (according to SurlyWorld), Al Gore would have carried Alabama and made it to 270 and won the Presidency without carrying Florida, if we truly concede Florida, which I will never do.

Scotus SHOULD overturn this, as they have a precedent that basically calls for no last minute election changes. But it’s, let’s say, unevenly applied.

It’s “close” bc the media is selling you a 50/50 horse race. It’s “close” because every polling firm is terrified to be wrong again and making the polls reflect a 50/50 race so they can say “well it could have gone either way!”

It’s really not going to be that close. 2012 redux

I guess we should explain that it's the Fifth Circuit, which has jurisdiction only over Texas, MIssissippi, and Louisiana.  Of those, only Mississippi attempts to count votes not received by election day.  So it only actually affects Mississippi and it wasn't changing the electoral outcome in any of them.  ETA, even the MS Secretary of State said the change will not be implemented until after this election.

But, it could be used as a precedent elsewhere.  It's not binding anywhere else, and, now that the Fifth Circuit has lost most of its credibility, will not be a convincing precedent   And, luckily, the trial court reached the opposite conclusion and didn't attempt to give a nationwide injunction against such laws.

Also, this is what wildcat refers to.  Purcell.

I assume the county releases the official voter affiliation for each ballot received. Why not just stop the ruse and count the mail in and early votes as they occur. So what if one candidate realizes they are behind and they go all-in to get more voters. They do this already based on imperfect data.

To be clear, the side shouting "free speech!" as loudly as they can, all the time -- in the COMPLETELY wrong context -- has actually succeeded in killing protected free speech.

They are enemies of the Republic, freedom, and the Constitution.

The hate engine has spent more than forty years convincing them that they are the protectors of America. Liberals are their juden. We're carried beyond reason. Somehow the obvious doesn't matter anymore.

If a reckoning comes for the MAGA traitors, they will be Michael Douglas on the pier in Falling Down.

Their irony deafness doesn't recognize the obvious in the below. This is why you can't argue with them:

It now occurs to me that if nothing is obvious, you can't be ironic. Not bad for a Saturday morning.

Yep.  And more specifically, Kamala Harris needs to schedule a stop in North Carolina as soon as she can, and tell the attendees and viewing audience that Andy Mother-Fucking Harris has proposed stripping North Carolinians of their right to vote and determine the allocation of the state's electoral votes regardless of the will of the people.

She would need to speak off the cuff on this subject and it's implications alone. Leave the boilerplate at home. This national leader, Fuckwad Harris (no relation), is calling for election results prior to election day. He is cancelling everybody's vote and right to vote whether you vote Republican or Democrat.

Does anyone want to give a man who doesn't care anything about our Constituition the power to award public office before anyone has even voted?

That was Vice President Kamala Harris, we have Congressman Fuckwad Harris here to explain his point of view. Congressman?

Kamala Harris is a radical socialist who wants murderers and rapers to come to this country to murder and rape us. And eat our pets as they're doing in Springfield. We want to protect the sanctity of election results by preventing Democrat cheating. We will not let them steal another election!

Do you believe Donald Trump won in 2020?

We don't want to look back. We are looking forward to the day that we can make America great again at bayonet point.

Corporate media with a vested interest in things staying a certain way. It's why I hope CNN and others start going under. They've stoked this era of politics at every turn. They reacted to Fox News by becoming something almost worse.

CNN has ceased being a news gathering organization as they rely on print media for their stories. They've drifted so far from the concept of reporting that their banner at the bottom of the screen always reads: Breaking News. Most of the time, it's just a description of who is appearing on one of their panels. Real journalism news organizations were picky about getting things right.

CNN does try to stay in the middle with their panel discussions which has some value. Sadly, they don't exercise editorial discretion to keep out the bullshit. They're too timid to call something what it is. Lies in the case of Trump or famine in the case of the poor citizens of Gaza.

If they go, I wonder where a lot of people will hear what the newspapers they never read are reporting. CNN  is at least a clearing house for a little bit of that. I'd prefer that CNN improve, but that's a pipe dream.

Couple things:

1) The Harris rally was epic. It seems like it broke through the noise for her in a way that nothing else really has this month.

2) Trump is flailing and his team is flailing. He could win, obviously, but they are running on fumes and relying on whatever fuckery they have cooked up to come down with the ball. It is evident to me that they thought Harris would revert the signal by now. She hasn’t, and the mid-oct Trump bounce has peaked.

3) Harris should absolutely do Rogan, and I still hope she does. There is literally no downside and in an election like this she loses when dances to their tune (CNN/60 Mins) and wins when she’s making her own weather (Fox, CHD, Houston Rally).

On point 2, weekend Fox & Friends (my mom had it on) was basically discussing how she could still lose the race, not how Trump is winning it.

Not the most confident assessment of the race by the F&F B-team

Harris should set up a series of rallies in Philly or Pittsburgh at 2-3 venues.  Places that seat 15,000+.  Plan it so that she moves from one place to another and has three distinct "parties" like she did last night but all in one day and in a 4-5 hour window.   Imagine the way that would look if 40k or 50k or 100k showed out for that.   I think the enthusiasm is there for it   The logistics are a bit hard to pull off but do it.

Think about if she'd been at Minute Maid for a speech at 4:00, moved to Shell at 5:30 and then Minute Maid to close it out.  Have the Big Screens on so everyone at each location can watch party with the other locations.  Give three distinct speeched covering 3 specific items (say, the economy, foreign policy and a GOTV one.)

That would rock.  But with 9+ days left, it might not matter.
