No, it's a smart move. It's something Trump is unwilling to do. The best Trump could do is say he never heard the joke or of the comedian. She is setting herself apart from him.

Oh I wasn't saying she should have done differently, I was merely saying that if indeed those are her genuine thoughts on the matter, I disagree with her.  I voted for her and would again... but a some point you have to call a spade a spade and I think that's why this race is as close as it is.  One party has a knife and the other party is striving towards verbal resolution.  At some point you have to fight or you'll get got.

Someone like Haley--who has supported Trump in the past--but ultimately drifted away from him (for completely self-serving reasons, but still) at least have a small chance to redirect the GOP while not losing every MAGA supporter (just most). Arnold has been against Trump since Day 1 and hasn't wavered. Even "reasonable" Rs view him as a turncoat.

Haley has played this well politically. She’s endorsed Trump and has recently said publicly that she’s willing to go anywhere the Trump campaign needs her. They haven’t called her and she last personally spoke to Trump in June.  Any criticism that she’s has about the campaign deliberately looks to avoid criticizing Trump directly. It’s more at the campaign leaders who will take the brunt of Trump hatred when he loses.

I didn't get an "I Voted" sticker and I'm kind of pissed and anti-democracy now.

Literally the only thing I get out of national voting in Texas is a sticker. Now I don't even get that.

Thanks, Obama

I'm still mad about not getting a sticker over a week ago

I also just have a sneaking suspicion that he is wearing a wire, and perhaps already a cooperating witness.

I think Mike Johnson will tell Trump what Trump wants to hear so Trump will allow him to keep being Speaker for the next 3 months.  I take any speculation over a secret plan in that context.

If they try this, can we please, uh you know, this time?? Treasonous acts and all.

Oh I think the people will take care of them if it gets to that point this time around. You can't disenfranchise millions of people when your guy clearly loses a state. It's one thing in a Republican dominated state. But in a state like Wisconsin?

I'm with @henrygandorf in that Trump has a "to death do us part" hold on the party.  That's also why he needs to be in jail.

I agree IF it's a close election. But if Trump keeps Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia, and at least one of Arizona/Nevada blue AND helps turn North Carolina blue and gives Dems an unexpected Senate seat somewhere, there's going to be a reckoning between GOP leadership and the Republican power brokers. The GOP was able to jump right back on the Trump train in 2022--after if became abundantly clear that no one gave a fuck about Ron DeSantis--because, if you squint, the 2020 election was pretty close, and Biden was wildly unpopular at the time.

There's a reason why they made Trump wait until after the midterms to announce though. They realize that Trump is poison to their election chances, so if this election proves once and for that he--and his approved cronies--absolutely cannot win in purple states, then something will have to change.

But I think it will be close on Tuesday and they'll take the Senate, so, yeah, we're stuck with Trump as the party until he dies.

Casey 49-46

CMC-Rose Institute/YouGov of PA

50-48 Harris

He's not going to be capable of standing and speaking for 10 minutes by 2028 so although it would really suck living through this yet again, we might get to see him wet his diaper on live tv.

I think for the GOP to fully turn on Trump they’ll have to see a path to winning elections without him, and I just don’t see how that happens.  There’s not a meaningful part of the Democrat base the GOP could take without diminishing their existing base; essentially, getting married to the racists won them the 2016 presidency but it put them in a tough spot once that fully played out.  If (huge if) Harris cruises to 320+ EV, I don’t see any way the GOP wins the presidency before 2036 unless the Democrats fuck up big time.

it's weird seeing how long politicos hold on.  i'm always taken aback by photos of nixon, the bright eyed dude that lost to jfk, because we are used to seeing pictures of nixon the heavy joweled dude that won a twelve years later.

If Harris cruises to a big win I would still need to see how the 2026 Midterms turn out to presume any significant long term positive shift.

People were sure that the 2008 election was some kind of big shift but 2010 showed that actually...

Um, what about this nightmare fuel from that article:

Quote

And this is where Speaker Johnson becomes critical to the whole “secret” plan. In 2020, Nancy Pelosi was speaker of the House. If states had tried to get cute and not submit their electors by the December 11 deadline, Pelosi would just have extended the deadline. But Speaker Johnson surely won’t. If electors are not submitted by December 11, he’ll likely declare the process “over” and say that the electors appointed by that date are the only ones allowed to vote for president.

Crucially, Johnson can do this even if Republicans lose the House and Johnson is removed from power. The new House isn’t sworn in until January 3. As the violent MAGA people in your family already know, January 6 is when the House certifies the results of the Electoral College, but that is just a ceremonial day. By the time we get to January 6, the electors are supposed to have voted. December 11 is the deadline for appointing electors, December 25 the deadline for voting. Mike Johnson will still be in charge on both of those days.

Preventing this scenario requires Republicans to act in good faith and certify the results of elections that go against their guy. Unfortunately, we cannot be sure that Republicans of good faith still exist, and we certainly can’t assume that they exist in key battleground states or on the Supreme Court.

I think this plan explains why Trump, Johnson, Elon Musk, and a bunch of other Republicans have been stomping around the country, looking smug and confident and willing to piss off Puerto Ricans (while doing jumping jacks, in Elon’s case), even though every person with a brain will tell you that the election is a toss-up. Trump and his people really don’t think they have to win. They think they can stop certification of states they lose long enough to let Mike Johnson shut the door on democracy.

Personally, win or lose I don't think he survives until the midterms. At best he'll need full time memory care by then. Dude is fading fast.

I don't think he has the power to do that.

Also as a reminder - the electors can only be submitted to Congress by the certifying authority in the state (Gov or SOS).  Dems have control of those offices in AZ, NV (SOS), WI (Gov), MI, NC (Gov), PA and GA Gov/SOS have defied Trump many times over election results.

Congress cannot accept any alternate slate of electors.  Electoral Count Reform Act of 2022.

If Trump loses; I think a post-election audit of the RNC will show the depth of their crime families’ fraud. That could mark the end of the Trump’s.

Hence why the Trump won't stop running for President until he's dead. The quiet part is that many in the GOP think that either Tues or 2028 will be the end of Trump. He's going nowhere with his army of supporters. The MFer practically embalmed now with McDonalds grease. He can fight off any disease with that.

That is addressed in the article, and it turns out Jan 3 may be too late.

It would still require a Jan 3 Congress to certify the vote.  Do you think a Democratic Congress will certify that?

So, you would need to have the current, razor thing Congress go along with not extending the deadlines for electors. You would need to have the Supreme Court delay the state rulings past the deadline.  Then you would need the SC to rule that the completely arbitrary, not-Constitutionally mandated deadline would take priority to recognizing the votes of millions of people.  Then you would need the Jan 3 Congress to certify the obviously tainted election.  Then you would need Biden to handing the keys over to Trump, someone who is obviously a fascist dictator who seized power by undemocratic, unConstitutional ways.  If you get past the third step, with the SC, it may get into some "constitutional crisis" grey area, but there is still a lot of off-ramps before handing the keys over to Trump.

Also any post-election lawsuits have to be quickly ruled on - that is also spelled out in the Electoral Count Reform Act.  It's not going to be 2 months of lawsuits (or 2 years, if you're Kari Lake).

I encourage you all to read the article before asking questions that are clearly answered in the article.

In this case, it is likely that the GOP will still maintain the majority of state delegations in the House, which is what matters.

I'm not following.  What states that went for Harris are going to fail to certify by Dec 11?  If Trumpy states want to drag their feet, fine.  FAFO.
