I'm reminded of the lead up to the first Gulf War under HW Bush.

So many articles about how the Iraqis were battle-tested with large numbers of soldiers and armor. Their airforce numbered in the 100s of planes. It had been a while for us. The alarmism impacted me. I wasn't sure about the prospects of an easy victory.

Afterwards, we'd of course destroyed them, I remember Tom Clancy and other hawks deriding people like me who were worried at all. What, did Tom think I had my own intelligence service and crew of reporters? I had no other source of information.

Here, there is gloom projected by the main outlets again. Remember the template. Look at a poll. Check the margin of error. Announce if the results are within that margin. Then go to the panel as though that information is solid and talk about what it means. They need to analyse their premise before making the leap to opinion. They won't do that because they haven't done it before.

This is the flip to my dark post above about low propensity voters turning out:  What if, instead, the media, bitten twice by narratives that Trump overperformed his polling, is intentionally downplaying her competitiveness, both to avoid being pantsed again, and for commercial reasons ("THEY ARE NECK AND NECK DOWN THE STRETCH, FOLKS, STAY TUNED IN!!!"). Instead, women and late decideing indies break heavily towards Harris, because Dobbs and autocracy blows, and the whole thing ends up being a bit of a laugher for Harris.

They do.  But they rarely, if ever, show up to vote in federal elections.

This article says maybe 3k in the Lancaster area plus a few hundred throughout Pennsylvania.

But in a community with many children, less than half the Amish are of voting age, Nolt said. In 2020, he estimated that about 3,000 Amish voted in the Lancaster area, and several hundred elsewhere, he said.

“Even if we would imagine, for example, that here in Lancaster, there would be a tremendous percentage in percentage terms … we’re looking at several hundred to maybe a thousand additional voters,” he said.

Voted against that one, personally.  The biologists tracking wildlife populations at Colorado Parks & Wildlife are best equipped to decide if and how many mountain lions are bagged every year (imo).

Completely agree

Haley has played this well politically. She’s endorsed Trump and has recently said publicly that she’s willing to go anywhere the Trump campaign needs her. They haven’t called her and she last personally spoke to Trump in June.  Any criticism that she’s has about the campaign deliberately looks to avoid criticizing Trump directly. It’s more at the campaign leaders who will take the brunt of Trump hatred when he loses.

This has the potential for being a massive own-goal by the Trump campaign. Trump himself has said he "doesn't need" their votes, but they could cost him the election.

The Harris campaign has an entire operation around recruiting Haley voters to cross over - working with groups like the Lincoln Project, Republicans Against Trump, and The Bulwark.

It's not the focus of their canvassing efforts, but there's more of an effort here than people realize.

Aldrin for Trump, unsurprisingly.

So ole Buzz is a fascist, after all. Just like Elon, who he praises in the Tweet.

Fuck Buzz, Elon, and any one else involved with NASA for supporting Trump.

Buzz is old. I don't think younger Buzz would be about this.

Reading what someone posted earlier and it sounds like Buzz has dementia and is being taken advantage of by some non-family members.

That's so sad.  And so MAGA

Well, yeah.  He's also snack sized.  Gotta get a big dog and then you only worry about coyotes and mountain lions.

Do the Amish have government IDs that would allow them to vote?  (Genuinely asking)

It’s actually against their (and most Mennonite’s) religion to vote.  They believe in firm separation of church and state and see themselves as solely with the church.  They do this for a few reasons, some stated, such as they refuse to be complicit in any wrongdoing by the state… they don’t choose the lesser of two evils because they don’t choose at all.

An unstated reason is it makes it easier to deal with foreign governments if they know their population isn’t going to interfere in domestic politics.

Yeah, he would. The only difference now is now he can state it loudly, proudly, out in the open.

He took communion on the moon after all ... a complete insult to the science and technology that got Armstrong and Aldrin to the moon. It's all doublethink. He was most likely a Nixon supporter. F him.

There's no fucking way anything short of outbreak of war could shift that much in a few weeks. This is all pure garbage. These polls are just cooking whatever numbers they want. It's becoming apparent Harris will win comfortably, so they're cooking trump numbers to try to keep attention on themselves.

It’s fucking bullshit. Mountain lions are already protected/regulated by the state just fine.

I'm confused by the liquor in a low shelf. That's not easy access. I don't understand.

Dachunds are not to be fucked with...  They are hunting dogs.  They are mean little hate filled sausages when they are pissed.

Oh, I know.  MIL used to have one that I couldn't stand (and I love dogs).  It always tried to bite me whenever I saw it.

Jimmy aimed is monologue at Republicans last night in a last ditch effort to point out Trump’s bullshit.

LMFAO. I generally don't care for Kimmel, but that was fantastic.

MSNBC guy: "Are you a new testament or old testament guy".

Trump: "Uh, probably ... equal".

If you locked all the comedy writers in the world into a room for 10 years, they could never come up with something that good.
