I'd think CA republicans are moving to AZ, NV, TX, FL, MT and ID

You have upper midwest Republicans moving to (retiring to) FL

You have Texas Dems moving out to CO, NC, VA, MN

Wild we may have another alignment, but one borne out of pandemic/post-pandemic migration and not political realignment.  Considering we just had two in the last 15 years (WWC flip to Republicans in 2010-2016 and the suburban/college educated shift to Democrats 2018-present)

It is hard for me to look at Florida and see a lot of good things, but a lot of that is clouded by 2022.

Democratic turnout and enthusiasm just fucked cratered down there in 2022.

If Trump somehow only wins FL by 1-1.5%, he's lost GA and NC and the entire Blue Wall.

I won't believe that until I see it.  Also, not gonna lie, and neg away, if FL wants to do the funniest shit next week and vote for Harris and beat Texas, I'll take that trade-off.

The "sort" thing is real, but a bit overstated. It's economic, not ideological, unless you're someone like Elon Musk.

No. Just no. If it was just economic, you wouldn't see the drastic party splits in terms of states of migration.

An important reason Harris needs to win in a blowout is that it will YET AGAIN demonstrate that the polling industry knows shit about fuck.

The most important reason of all is that we need to beat fascism. Not only beat it but give it a big fucking kick in the mouth.

So I don't think this is the reason, but there has been an extremely noticeable uptick in Texas license plates in the past couple months here. Like WTF is going on level. I really have been trying to figure out why.

This is the world's biggiest full of shit false choice. It's fucking pathetic.

And no one will turn it around. "Hey, if you'd just give back the rights you literally took away 4 years ago, you could avoid a nuclera war!"

Fucking dispshits.

I would add:

- Anti-vaxxers, anti-establishment left leaners who will come over with RFKjr

- Racists who aren't inclined for a black woman. (I think Trump already captured a big chunk of these, but actually running against a black person will help get more, particularly from anti-black Latinos)

- Variety of sexists who won't vote for a woman

I take my kid to school or pick him up at least a couple times a week. The route is always the same. This week, for the first time, I saw a very Prominent RFK/Shanahan sign. Hasn't been there before, very difficult for me to miss becuase it's right next to a house with some F Ted Cruz signage. I'm still perplexed...like, you waited until NOW to put our your already dated RFK sign? Like, WTF is going on there? I know, I know, CSB.

Screaming about PA being rigged on Truth Social and a bunch of people on the right like Charlie Kirk screaming about women bigly outvoting men in the rust belt does not scream "wrapped up" to me

Trump wants big crowds, he wants to project strength, he wants to act like he's winning so when he doesn't, he can raise $500 million for lawsuits and pocket 85% of it.

He will transfer all the leftover money + whatever he raises for lawsuits into his bank account, the FEC will open an inquiry about it and wrap it up in 2032.  He'll be dead by then.

Roy Cohn famously, repeatedly, said his goal in life was to die massively in debt to the Government. Seems like a familiar playbook.

Fucking....THIS.  MAGAs, I don't hate you for what you are, I hate you for what you do and what you believe and act on.  It's 100% a "content of your character" thing.  Trust me, I hate hispanic MAGAs just as much as I hate the white trash MAGAs.  You are all pura basura.

A shitload of this, but they really don't think about a next American dream.  They're fine if it's all burned down, so long as they are in a position to shit on someone else.  They would happily see this country burn if they can be king of the ashes.

The bolded has been discussed around here some, but it merits a LOT more discussion.  Someone linked a really good podcast on it.  Let's put a pin in it, to discuss after the election when maybe it can get some attention and thought.  Because it's really, really important.  We've made a lot of progress, and done a lot of good for a lot of historically shat-upon demographics.  And while that hasn't treated young men NEGATIVELY, taking away structural advantages that they counted on has made it harder, and our young men don't have the first clue how to do hard things, and we as society are not equipping them to do so, at all.  It's an important thing that society as a whole is going to need to tackle, and I'm looking at you, folks on the left, feminists, civil rights activists, etc.  We need a society that is collectively "healthy," and we're not there.

But for now, let's get back to the Chilis/Bennigans/Jojos/Cocos discussion.

Twas me:

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/failing-young-men-with-richard-reeves/id1498802610?i=1000584062413

I really don't understand young men.  I understand young women better, oddly enough.  They still have the ambitions that women have always had.  Young men just want to sit around, play video games, and aren't interesting in girls, which is what I completely don't understand.

In my "other world," the women back that up, actually.  (If a woman has been a pro for more than five years, I consider her a Phd level expert on the sexual habits of men.)  They will tell you the customer demand significantly drops off with the under 35 crowd.  Sure, there's a financial aspect with them not being able to afford it but it's also the interest just isn't there, whereas Boomers were/are complete horn dogs along with older Gen X to a lesser degree.

Anyway, back to regularly scheduled programming and doom scrolling.

I totally agree. I just think it exceeds the scope of this current thread or moment. I've started to type something, then thought better of it because it's such an involved topic.

It would have to be a hell of a higher salary for me to be able to afford California. I'd move in a heartbeat otherwise.

The bolded is spot on, except that I'd add that there's even a higher cost that they're willing to lose but fail to see in their alternate realities--friends and family, because a war would cost them the lives of these people too. They're lunatics.

That's fucking awesome. We've really come so far. When the Bush campaign started running spanish language ads the mere fact they were doing it was considered groundbreaking.
I worked at 301 Congress from 1997-2002, and the Bush campaign HQ was on the 3rd floor. There's a courtyard on the 4th St side where people would take smoke breaks, and I would occasionally talk to a guy from the campaign. I once asked him if the spanish commercials were different from the English commercials. He said "they're essentially the same, except the spanish one has a clown in it."

And Bozo mentioned it before, and I agree, that 2012 was just as bad a polling error as 2016/2020, but it was in Romney's favor, and Obama won easily.  2012 was legit a tossup by the pollsters/pundits heading into Election Day (except Silver, which of course, made him famous).

And I think that's exactly what happens this year.

I tend to agree.

My opinion is that the enthusiasm is actually higher than this poll indicates since some of the most enthusiastic voters for Harris (female college graduates under 30) are less likely to get sampled by Gallup.

Some of them did. But Trump was touting how he invented the various vaccines and his CDC was pushing folks to get them. He was still part of the industrial medical conspiracy.  Promising RFKjr control is a major shift.

Lutnick from last night is just as bad and he's been in the middle of Project 2025 and he's one half of the transition team. They want to do away with any and all vaccine mandates at school, work, etc.

Mine went to/are in the public school system here, and while there are plenty of exceptions, their friend groups have tended to be quite progressive.  That tracks fairly closely to my friends who live in other parts of the country with GenZ kids.  But yes, it is depressingly red here in east Texas.  But voter turnout has been record-breaking this cycle, which, hopefully, means the margin is shrinking.

I’m

From what I’ve seen from other converts, the scales will slowly fall from your eyes. It starts with “I have to hold my nose and vote for Dems for the sake of sanity and decorum.” Two years later, you’re perusing platforms to educate yourself on the off-year candidates and it hits you: “The Dems actually make sense about a lot of things.” By the next election cycle, you’re working your way through the back catalog of Behind the Bastards and thinking “How the fuck did I ever support this nefarious Reagan shitbag?”

Enjoy the journey.

Then they ship you a che guevara shit.

That's a deeply ashamed, closeted man with fame looking for justification about why he likes penis. edit - why his little boys club didn't cancel him after he went to jerk off to gay porn after his live stream illustrates either how gullible or understanding/in denial of his predicament they are.

We are not going back.

It would be nice if a majority actually elected the president.

From time to time a guy I went to HS with posts on Facebook, almost always with some kind of MAGA angle.  To say he's a dim bulb would be an insult to dim bulbs everywhere.  It's weird, I always liked his Dad, who was a brilliant biochemistry prof at my undergrad alma mater.  They were Episcopalians, a demonination that leans centrist to left, and his dad was a very kind and compassionate man.  His son is a jackass.

Here's an example from today, expressing his chagrin at the divisive language of Joe Biden:
