Off topic, but I like DST. If they get rid of it, my hope is that we fall back permanently rather than stop when we are sprung forward. Morning sunshine=high T. Later sunrises are beta shit.

Still lot of weird relics in the system. My friend Lisa bought a house in '98. On her deed was entered "Lisa _______ , barren woman"

When we bought our previous house in Allandale (construction in 1954, I think), the deed (cuz it's the original deed, that's how chains of title work) still had the "This property cannot be sold to a negro" language.  When I pointed that out to my wife, she flipped the fuck out.  I then had to explain how such clauses were void as a matter of law.

I haven't explained to her how the modern GQP would like to change that, allowing similar clauses to have the force of law.  She's pissed enough already.

I obviously dont want what I said to happen, but there has to be some way to show these dumb motherfuckers how dumb they are

I understand the sentiment, it's just that I would like to find a mechanism that doesn't include me in the whirlwind of finding out that would be necessary to effectuate your desire.

Well and on the extreme side you fall prey to the gay and trans agenda and slide into estrogen therapy.  I mean it happens to some former republicans so they have reason to be afraid.

Will Donald Trump get a free reassignment surgery when he goes to prison?  If so, maybe he can get a legal abortion after that.

My brother said his neighborhood's covenants are similar although I think they list quite a few people who cannot live on their street

Only if he doesn’t want it. They are only available as punishment.

This kind of stuff makes me ragey beyond belief. How DARE these entitled, clueless men preach about something that is entirely hypothetical to them. Yesterday I read this New Yorker article about the conservative strategy to ban abortion nationwide, and the article starts by talking about a proposition on the ballot in Amarillo called the "Sanctuary City for the Unborn Ordinance." In addition to banning abortion in the city, it also would prohibit people who live in Amarillo from getting abortions in other states. (Can they even do that? What the actual fuck?)
The "sanctuary city movement" is spearheaded by this dickhead named Mark Lee Dickson, a minister from East Texas. I googled him and this is part of his bio: "Mark Lee Dickson is a God-fearing, Texas born and raised, pro-life activist who fights for the rights of all human beings from conception till natural death." Y'all, I was about to pop OFF. "Till natural death", unless it's a pregnant woman, I assume? That's when I lose the ability to fight for my own life, right? You say "till natural death" but you really mean "till natural death as long as you're not pregnant and in a position to have to choose your life or the baby's."
And the whole thing about having exceptions for the life of the mother is bullshit, too - all this says to me is that I have to be on death's door before they'll "allow" an abortion. What is the line? Do I have to lose consciousness? Wait till I start bleeding out?
I lost a pregnancy in 2010 and had to have a D&C. I wanted that baby more than anything and the irony was not lost on me that I was having the same procedure as many women who have elective abortions. But I will fight every day for women to be able to make that decision for themselves.
Hell, indeed, hath no fury like a woman scorned, and we are beyond scorned. We are furious. Mark Lee Dickson and his ilk better get ready because we're done being treated like second-class citizens. Women get shit done. It may not happen now, and it may take some time, but we WILL get our rights back, and fuck anyone who stands in the way.

I bet Ramius wouldn’t even want to defect anymore.

Disagree.  I can't tell you how many times I've heard Texans say they'd never go to Commiefornia.

Real Men hate and fear California.

nscsb/I was teaching a Juco English class, and for some random reason somebody mentioned California. One young man opined "Mr. Canecutter, there are a ton of bad things going on in California." I said I figured with 40 million people, there were bad things, good things, and lots of medium things. I'd been there a couple of times and didn't see anybody turn their head all the way around. He had no comment.

A few weeks later it's finals and I'm on the phone number he gave us, talking to his mom. Yes, if he will just turn in his final paper, anything at all, he'll get credit. Never saw him or his paper again.

Reckon he set off for Californy? /nscsb

Pretty sure experts say standard time is better for human health.

No he likes DST.  He would dislike a change to the status quo but if there were to be a change, he prefers permanent ST to permanent DST.  And I agree on both counts.

14 minutes ago, BrickHorn said:

Not correct. He said he wants earlier sunrises, which is a feature of ST. He also said he wants to permanently “fall back,” also a reference to ST.

to be clear, I was saying two things:
1) I like the Daylight Savings Time system, because it means summer mornings gets hotter later in Texas, when days are longest and I like being outside in the morning in general. However;
2) If the system is eliminated nationally, I hope that we go back to permanent standard time, because when days are shorter in the winter that means an earlier sunrise.

Yeah, my covenant in Golden Valley MN had a bunch weird stuff about the total number of different animals you could have on the property and shit like that, but also one about one about no interracial couples.  All then had an expiration date of like 20 years out from the original, except the racist one.

there is a not small GOP push to inject national partisan politics into local planning and zoning issues, and we've seen some of that with Trump in 2020 and 2024 talking about protecting your suburbs and "protecting neighborhoods" from multifamily housing.  A component of that is a legislative effort to enlist the power of the state as an enforment mechanism of deed restrictions.

When you drive around Hyde Park and Allendale and other places where you see "protect our deed restrictions," those people aren't red pilled secret Republicans or anything, but that's the impulse the GOP is working with at the national and state level.

This is my regular reminder that prior to 2007, DST started three weeks later in the spring and ended a week earlier in the fall. That’s why it feels so much more painful: the transitions were much less dramatic from a light perspective.

You can thank Ed Markey for the change, it was his big idea to save energy.

Flipping thru the radio today, someone said something interesting, not sure as to veracity but it makes some sense.  Basically, 12 million Republicans, like automatic ones, are voting in their final election.

Kornaki + Reddit

is John King out of the game, or is CNN saving him to Election night?  haven't seen much of him lately. it's always some other dude in the Twitter clips i've seen. although, in fairness, i have been avoiding CNN for a while now.  but i like him and will flip between him and Kornacki.  and King's Magic Wall is now available in an app. so i might fire that up.

oh, and i'll have the NY Times election meter website up.  good lord, i have PTSD thinking about looking at it on on Election night 2016. we were at my then GF's (now wife's) place for an election party.  probably 8-10 of us.  and i kept showing everybody the meter below as it moved right.  just stunned disbelief.  we can't have a repeat of that.

Randomly remembered the NYT needle the other day and broke out in cold sweats.

I'll never forget the needle's slow creep into Red in 2016, nor the sudden needle shift in Georgia in 2020 that completely changed the vibes.

My body is not ready.

Second, we know LDS voters may play an important hand in deciding NV and AZ.  A Mormon friend of mine shared the article below... I thought it was actually well-written and it feels like Mormon Gen-Z and Millenials are going to push things towards Kamala:
