That's also exactly how the voters should look at it.

If we elect Trump, the damage done will be incalculable, and cannot be recovered from in a generation, if at all.

If we elect Harris and she turns out to be a shitty president, we can replace her in 4 years with somebody better, and the damage will be manageable.

Been saying this for months. The worst-case scenario for Kamala is she's not any good and she's replaced in 2028/29. Worst-case scenario for Trump? American Democracy is dead.

I mentioned this before, but it's actually a real-deal, and how we should look at our fellow human beings as an asset, not a liability.

The boy has lived overseas in the UK and Germany the past several years.  When he was home for Xmas this last year, as we were running errands on N. Lamar, he sighed and commented "man...I really miss mexicans.  It's just something I grew up so used to, and you really notice their absence over there."  He went on to talk about how it wasn't just the food, it was the vibe.  Generally happy folks, often going to or from working hard.  Just, literally, the kinds of attitudes and behaviors you WANT to see in your neighbors.

A generation ago, we would describe someone wearing work boots and a hard hat from sunup to sundown during the week, then having a backyard bbq with lots of family and friends, as the ideal American.  Now.....we hate him, because he's brown and speaks spanish.  WTF?  Hispanics are great Americans.  They are, quite often, the best of us.

Dude.  Like you can go TWICE at your age.

I du*no.

The friendliness cannot be over stated. I clutched my pearls in this neighborhood 10 years ago. Now I don't want to be anywhere else.

Can't count how many times I've been walking Luna and got invited to a yard/street party. A Gordo sweating over giant skillet of frying God knows what. Didn't matter. It was fucking delicious.

Is there gunfire? Yes, but mostly into the air.

Who signed the bill that made the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts permanent? Who declined to sever the connection between healthcare and employment insurance? Hey, who was married to the guy who signed the repeal of Glass Steagal? Oh, right. The 2016 Democratic Nominee. Who authored and co-sponsored the 2005 bankruptcy bill that stripped protections from millions and unleashed a wash of private student loans?

Are you saying the same people who are concerned about private student loans -- which Biden has tried and tried to take off the books only to face opposition at every turn from the GQP -- are the same people who were against Universal Healthcare but also in favor of a much stricter regulatory approach to banking? But also they're NOT 50 to 80 year olds but they're pissed about a financial services law passed 25 years ago. Oh you mentioned the law that stabilized the banking system from collapse, signed into law by SHRUB. And they hate Elizabeth Warren and any consumer protection too. What a bizarre conglomeration of laws those people are theoretically pissed about. Those people definitely seem incredibly confused at the very least. Please tell me what segment of the population is this delusional. Subscribers to a Matthew Yglesias substack? I don't think that's considered a demographic, sir.

Because of this:

Speaking of Georgia: My sister is Chairperson of Forsyth County Georgia Republicans for Harris Organization. In order to join, you must have voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020. She currently has 1,345 members. Since the Liz Cheney comment last night, over 700 more women joined. They're all voting on Tuesday

Pics of sister? Give her my love.

The best part about this is 2000 votes for Harris takes away and equal 2000 votes for Trump.

So we're all going to our local Chili's on Wednesday in solidarity if the election goes our way, correct?

If I see any of you, I'll knowingly nod.

You know what, I’ll allow it.

There's one about 3 miles from the house.   I'll have moderate difficulty getting the wife to agree, but in the spirit of the solidarity, I'm sure she would happily oblige.

Michael Moore is very confident in a Harris win.

"Well I suppose I should stick to the script and say that this is a toss-up, but yeah she's gonna win, maybe by a lot" (paraphrasing interview just now on Ari Melber)

It is his own asshole he should be worried about, but that has nothing to do with the burgers.

I honestly can't believe this message isn't banged about more. It's not a policy issue at stake, this is a referendum on democracy itself. One candidate wants to continue our political system of peaceful transfer of power going forward. The other is vowing to dismantle it and replace it with an authoritarian implementation. He says it'll be the last time we ever have to vote. He already started riots over this. He said he should be able to serve more than two terms.

This isn't about the economy, or immigration, or any of that shit. More fundamentally, this is an election on whether the USA as we know it continues to exist or gets replaced with a defacto dictatorship. This is fucking scary.

And this.

Literally, just fucking elect her and then go back to picking Republicans in 2025/2026 and beyond.  For the love of God, you will get another chance in 2028 if she wins.

I think you're understating the worst-case scenario.

This is about to be a bloodbath. Nate Cohn is basically saying pollsters are smol beans who didn't want Republicans to yell at them and were scared we'd realize that everything they do is worthless:

Thanks Nate.

Hasn't this has been a prevailing wisdom here for weeks?

I don't understand why these numbers are different, even slightly.

Because of how markets work. One sees much greater volume than the other.

Honestly, Moore predicting a Harris win is the FIRST piece of news that gives me any hope.  Because, yeah, MM and I were on exactly the same page in 2016.  We saw the writing on the wall, shouted all the warnings we could, but we were just voices lost in all the noise.

If MM is seeing a Harris win - and MM sees the people and kind of voters who actually will decide this thing - then that's a good indicator for us.

Interesting article from the Daily Beast about mounting pressure on shrub Bush to endorse Harris.

During a live interview that aired Friday on The New Yorker Radio Hour podcast, Liz Cheney said, “I can’t explain why George W. Bush hasn’t spoken out, but I think it’s time, and I wish that he would.””

Shrub’s daughter is all in with Harris. Of course she is.

My understanding is the dotard side was working the numbers to help provide perception of his winning, right along with all the right winger pollsters. And now they're cashing out as it crashes.

If there was a time for an ex-President to say something it is now. Bush really should. Or even better, Laura. The Emperor, I mean his VP, came out against Trump.

And would.

Brisket, any room on the ledge just in case?
