I disagree. I know several Trump voters of different races and income levels. Some of them are really, really smart. These are generally good people who I trust. One is a close friend. The media ecosystem in America is broken and feeds this lie that we're so different.

I imagine you know several people from your time in the military that are Trump supports. Did they unlearn the lessons that brought them to serve?

I completely agree that the media ecosystem is completely broken, but I do have hope.  Someone, eventually, is going to realize that more Americans want actual news than infotainment, and they will emerge and crush the current mainstream crap we have going on.  The current media is bloated, massively in debt, and lost in the wilderness.  That is a situation that makes for perfect conditions for disruption.

She could say don't vote for me, vote for Kamala and Walz. But she won't, because she's narcissistic cunt who doesn't give a shit about the environment or anyone but herself.

Maybe I'm overconfident, but I'm not worried about Jill Stein voters flipping the election at all.

Nah. That one got to him and I sort of regretted it, even though it was true.
I think the election is really starting to wear on him, and I get a sense that while he’s going to vote for Trump he’ll be relieved if Harris wins, because he’s starting to put disclaimers around his support- that he knows Trump is a “liar,” “boorish,” a “cad,” “probably corrupt” and so forth, but “strong for America.”

I think a lot of decent old people with bad media diets have sort of painted themselves into a corner here and are hoping the rest of us bail them out so they can complain about Harris nonstop and avoid facing the truth.

Even if she wins, they don’t get off the hook. If you are voting for him in 2024, you have no excuse.

all because the historical party advocates and protectors of labor simply walked away.

so yeah…bozo was prophetically spot on then as well as now.

Yeah, he's not wrong on that.  That's one of my biggest political regrets:  deciding that unions were bad.  They were, but are absolutely essential.  They should have been supported in their legitimate goals (pay equity and domestic jobs) in return for corruption reform.  We nationally fucked up big-time in letting big business offshore virtually all manufacturing.

Though I guess I am unclear why the Democrats currently in DC are waiting around until November 5th to take care of this obvious national security risk.

Don't want to do anything that might accidentally get the crypto-bros off their lazy asses and vote for dotard.  Come Nov 6, Uncle Joe needs to whip out that complete immunity shit and go scorched earth on those losers.

I don't think that would help Brown.

It had nothing to do with Brown.  I figured the same message being used in MI / PA and probably WI would have some positive effect in OH as well.  Hell, send Walz there and have him roast Vance's creepy ass and you likely see some positive bump for the good guys.

"Look, I get it.  Your crazy ass neighbors in Bugtussle County have stuck you with that loser for now.  But if you (voters of Cleveland, Dayton, Columbus, Cincinnati) get out there and vote; you can end his political career right now."

I mean, I'm still not overly Union to this day. But the enemy of my enemy is my friend, so there's common ground to be had.

As I've said before, the 20th century US was basically welfare for mediocre white motherfuckers, and we are seeing the reaction to that going away over the past 15 to 20 year. Unions were just an extension of that philosophy.

And these mediocre white motherfuckers think ‘others’ are the recipients of this welfare now instead of realizing it’s gone forever.

Well, unions are definitely a pain in the ass to owners/management.  And they got pretty corrupt.  And they got pretty enmeshed with management in some cases (UAW) and began negotiating dumb stuff in lieu of pay or benefit raises.  And they absolutely did not help keep jobs in America, but the government should have been helping with this.

But I don't see any other way to keep wages reasonable.

you forgot retirement benefits/pension protections and workplace safety.

OSHA doesn’t exist without strong union lobbying for those protections, neither does the Jones Act.

I mean, my issues with unions was always in relation to how they shit on other labor for their own ends, not how they kept companies in check,  which is a good thing. I do think they are generally in a better place now and as I said I have common ground with them.

I guess the other part of this is we have gone to a country that is basically welfare for billionaires.

Who says it's stopped?

The checks are still coming! Affirmative action/DEI hasn't impacted white economic status, and white people still enjoy all the non-quantifiable advantages they've always held. And if history is a guide this will be maintained for 1-2 more generations.

White folk with privilege just don't want to acknowledge it.

Oh it is, its just not as extreme as it used to be.  But as I said the billionaire welfare is through the roof now

The last time I watched the news was after the Boston Marathon bombing, when it was obvious they had nothing to say, but that didn't stop them from filling the airwaves with bullshit.

There’s an episode of MST3k called Boggy Creek 2, filmed in Arkansas probably mid-90’s.  There’s a scene where the protagonists go into some general store and half the riffs sound familiar today:

”it’s the welfare moms sucking us dry”

”liberal!”

”want to contribute to our fund for the war against northern aggression?”

”want this on your klan account?”

Those deplorables have always been there, they just finally had a public figure that ‘made it ok’ to say the quiet parts out loud.

I used to be against universal income but after realizing how many tax breaks billionaires get and how they get free stadiums and tax abatements and all that shit, fuck it let’s do it. And have it for every person. Even rich people. And those who bitch about it ruining the economy can donate their share back into the pot to pay for everyone else. And all this shit will be funded by massive tax increase on billionaires. Of course I’m living in fantasy land.

I've been on the UBI train for years

Of course it isn't all that have no morals or values, but I do believe that every single trump supporter in 2024 is deficient in judgement, and has something wrong with them that would bring them to support the closest thing we've seen to 21st century Nazism. To support the hate filled rhetoric alone is deficient in values to some extent. Add on top the authoritarianism and blatant violation of the law/coup attempts and there's no way any completely sane, reasonable person would support this.
I disagree with Quigley about being able to trust anyone like that. I no longer trust any trump supporter, even in my own family. I get along with them and don't start any issues, but deep down I can never trust them for anything again. If my daughters were still small kids I'd never trust them to care for them again. That's for sure. Luckily I don't have any of them in my lab, but if I did I'd watch them like a hawk and no benefit of the doubt would be given to improprieties.

This. There are two types of Trump voters: 1) those who like the evil and cruelty to others, and 2) those who are just fine with evil and cruelty to others if they think it will provide them 1 cent of benefit.
If you enjoy making my neighbor suffer and die, or if you are cool with it because you’ll get an extra penny off your taxes, there is no meaningful distinction: you are pure shit.
We have to stop treating these people with kid gloves. Stop treating them with respect or sympathy. They deserve neither. They are EXACTLY like the Germans who went along with evil in the 1930s. I don’t care if they were one of the ones who genuinely hated Jews and thought the world should be under Germany’s boot, or if they were one of the ones who went along with it because they thought they could personally gain from it. Both groups were necessary to create the wermacht and the gas chambers. Both can go to hell.
Then. And now.
