I mean, Trumpworld is notoriously leaky and backstabby. But the 2 things Pancho posted reads like campaign staff are getting out in front of a loss to put it all on Trump.

No one in the Harris campaign is gonna be blackballed from future campaigns (if they happen) if she loses. But there will be a lot of knives out for Trump campaign staff when he loses. He and the family will turn on LaCivita, Wiles, Lewandowski, etc. in an instant and they’ll be out of political jobs as long as Trump and MAGA have influence

You didn't read the article.

Yes I see this third group. A lot. Disinformation has warped their brains. They somehow can’t process all of this data because disinformation has made it impossible for them to see it. Just like a cult.

There is no third group. You want to think that group exists. Because we don’t want to face the reality that the bulk of our neighbors are shitty. But the truth is, they know. They’re part of group 2. They are. And in your heart, you know it.
uhhh, one?
while i love catherine, eva, and especially marion...the oversight of leaving laetitia out is unforgivable.

Because if we can’t celebrate French women, Chili’s, Aubrey Plaza, and Hall & Oates, what are we even doing here?

I know the history and know the risk. I have spent money and time supporting Dems to opposite Trump / GOP since 2015.

I also know the people around me. I'm a minority who grew up in the sticks of Oklahoma in the 1970s. The public library in the county seat still had "colored" over one of the restroom doors and water fountains. I've experienced the hate you are talking about.

Demonizing the other is what Trump wants. If we do it, we are working atomize our country further.

I like spy novels and have seen Ken Follett but not read him. Will check it out.

Eye of the Needle is a great book, but anything from him is top shelf

First line of Pillars of the Earth: “The boys came early to the hanging.” Just fantastic. Love everything by him, but haven’t read the referenced series.

Century Trilogy is really good, highly recommend.

No interviews. Respect my decision.

Do you want Chili's to call the Feds and report suspicious election-focused organizing of creepy white men from the internet?

Love that we have to treat the second largest state in the union like a third world country.

She can say "Actually, y'all, reflecting on the past couple weeks this fucking guy is certifiably crazy and a threat to every one of our goals. I know it's underwhelming, but I'm suspending my campaign and asking you to vote for Kamala Harris. We will keep the pressure on her and Democrats but Trump is an unacceptable risk."

Green Party voters are highly online and that would have high visibility among her voters, and would certainly move a chunk of them. Many, probably the majority, would ignore it and say she sold out. It would still net Harris votes though.

She won't do it, but she could.

They won't if it's Trump +8-10 or something but at Trump +3 it's believable. Sherrod Brown is one of those incumbent Senators with a distinct brand in his state and he is a progressive populist, which plays well. OH, especially northeast OH, is anti-immigrant/trade but still not as broadly socially conservative as the south or Indiana/Iowa. The culture war stuff is not quite as salient there. Also, yeah, Moreno is not a great candidate.

Yeah man I meant she can’t take her name off the ballot.

Your buddies have been voting against their own self interest for years

I get where you are coming from. But, "self-interest" goes beyond economics, money, and $$$.

For MAGA and Fundagelicals, it is in their religious self-interest to have the government shove the Bible down everyone's throat, to outlaw abortion, to stop vaxxing, ban books, etc. Bottom line, MAGA is voting their "self-interest" -- their religious self-interest.

And they are ready to shove it down the collective throat of America.

Even if it crashes the economy.

"Trump and Co. will try to steal the election if they don't win, that much is obvious. They've learned from their failed 2020 coup attempt, preparing to do better this time. But many are missing that democracy's defenders learned too. Another steal attempt won't work"

Yes, they've been bamboozled to vote against their pocketbook through racism and sexism. And if you want to throw in vaxx too, okay.

I'm not entirely sure that I know who Jill Stein is. Color me skeptical that any of the undecideds do. Anyone pulling the lever for her is just an Anastasis-level both-sides edgelord who was always going to find someone to dump their protest vote on.

And that’s a huge issue, thanks to dogma.  Not only will these people not have their minds changed, unless by church leadership that manages to have a different interpretation gain popularity instead of excommunication, but they will not stop trying as they are convinced of a mandate from god.

From the Atlantic article:

At the end of June, in the afterglow of a debate performance that would ultimately prompt President Joe Biden to end his campaign for reelection, Donald Trump startled his aides by announcing that he’d come up with a new nickname for his opponent.

“The guy’s a retard. He’s retarded. I think that’s what I’ll start calling him,” Trump declared aboard his campaign plane, en route to a rally that evening, according to three people who heard him make the remarks: “Retarded Joe Biden.”

The staffers present—and, within hours, others who’d heard about the epithet secondhand—pleaded with Trump not to say this publicly. They warned him that it would antagonize the moderate voters who’d been breaking in their direction, while engendering sympathy for a politician who, at that moment, was the subject of widespread ridicule. As Trump demurred, musing that he might debut the nickname at that night’s event, his staffers puzzled over the timing. Biden was on the ropes. Polls showed Trump jumping out to the biggest lead he’d enjoyed in any of his three campaigns for the presidency. Everything was going right for the Republican Party and its nominee. Why would he jeopardize that for the sake of slinging a juvenile insult? (A campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, said the nickname “was never discussed and this is materially false.”)

Do you know who Kenneth Follett is? He wrote one of the best spy thrillers ever, called Eye of the Needle, but then he started writing sweeping historical novels about England. One called Winter of the World (book 2 of a trilogy dealing with the 20th century) examines in detail the rise of fascism in Germany, along with the (narrowly) defeated attempt to bring fascists into power in England. In both cases, there were people of different income levels, some really really smart, who were generally good people. Many were close friends, and even family members.

And they went on to commit some of the worst atrocities the world has ever seen

It’s a quick read, and can be read as a standalone, although the first book in the trilogy is fantastic as well. You should read it to get an idea of how this could get really bad really quickly with a Trump win

Good post. He also wrote a book called “A Place Called Freedom” and features a scene involving the payment of “Arles,” which in this case involved the laird of a Scottish coal mine giving a few shillings to the family of an infant at their Baptism and then they swear their child’s labor, life and soul to service of the laird. This was a practice that persisted in the UK from the Middle Ages into the early 1900’s.

In real life a lot of those scots miners came to America and went to work mining coal in Appalachia, and brought the mentality of bound servitude with them, which persists today.

These are thoughts of the "Undecideds" ....

"I can't decide how to justify my vote for Trump 'cause I know he's is a lying piece of shit ..... and Kamala seems smart and capable ....

but deep down I feel I can't trust any woman of color president...

don't want browns swarming into America and taking jobs...

don't want gays walking around grooming my kid...

don't want to sacrifice jobs to protect the environment...

don't want socialized health-care...

and want to do what my preacher says it right by the Bible...

Guess I gotta vote Trump. Even though Kamala is smart and talented and seems nice."

99% of the "Undecideds" are full-of-crap BS artists and doublethinking fascist enablers.

It's absurd that the media can't see this and then treats them like some kind of super-intellectuals about the election.

I'm not sure I ever really thought about the things he would have said over the years if left solely to his own devices. We probably would have gotten some racial slurs directed at Harris by now.

This is a classic example of doublethink. Orwell's brilliant insight: Believing that two opposite propositions are both true at the same time, or claiming a surface issue is true ... to mask what you know is the deeper issue of truth.)

Says 90% of MAGA it is not about racism, then lists tons of racist examples.  Consider last two paragraphs.

-- Mentions Army person in Iraq. Ignores that War in Iraq was racist and religious war.

-- Vote Hard R to handle the Hispanics (obviously through deportation, though not mentioned)

-- The entire gated community armed to the teeth is premised in racism.

Dude: Think deeper and more clearly. It's good for ya.

MAGA supporters are full-on racists.

Tell my white brother and Puerto Rican SIL they are racist for voting for Trump.   I just call them stupid.

Living Wage legislation based on a 40 hour work week and CPI seems like it would reduce wealth disparity.

Well, the conservative in me is going to disagree. I think bargained-for wages and benefits are a better outcome, but giving labor collective bargaining and strike ability is essential to that.  And government needs to be involved to insure that the bigger picture is kept in mind in addition to the narrow interests of the parties to the negotiation.

Good article.  I'm generally dubious of reporting that offers no more details of sourcing than "...conversations with nearly a dozen of the former president’s aides, advisers, and friends".  However, in this case I'm not too bothered because the primary source for all of this dirt is easily identified.  Chris LaCivita.  There's zero doubt in my mind.  I can't wait for the book next year.

That whole thing is just a grifting ladder. Trump grifting the American idiots. LaCivita and Wiles grifting trump for allegedly over $22 million by LaCivita alone. All the minions under them running their own little grifts on trump's campaign money. Insane hangers on like Loomer and Lewandowski trying everything to get in on the grift

and to make this appropriately relevant to this thread, laetitia's enduring beauty would probably most be paralleled in french literature by victor hugo's use of Lucrèce Borgia in the play of the same name. while based on historical elements of her life, hugo definitely gives her an enduring and ageless physical beauty that is comparable to laetitia.

I find myself in much a similar boat, though I've never been one to hero worship, which seems to be an issue for lots of people.  As a shareholder, I honestly hope he gets deported and divested.  I bought in early because I liked the general vision and agreed the auto industry was ripe for a shake up, that has been good to me.  I've stuck with it because I've seen demonstrable results, both in product and profit, often times in spite of his childishness and kooky ideas. However, I never intended to hitch my wagon to a radicalized psychopath.  Divesting from it now would almost seem like letting him win.  Also, while I don't believe in him at all with anything, I do believe the company has the stand alone talent and capability of delivering.

Just for the record, even though I know it's good for me, I am absolutely floored anyone drives that abortion of a truck, and yet every day, I see more of them.   I'm not sure what shocks me more, just how fucking stupid it looks or the fact that some idiot paid 100+k for it.

I bought McDonalds stock years ago for a similar reason. Actually no. I bought it because people with sticky kids will keep going there. Now I'm living off the fat of the land.

Yes great book. I would argue many / most brought a sense of defiant independence from centuries of fending off the various iterations of “the English” as Danes and the like. They had a medieval, ruthless ass whipping mentality, which some scholars point to as a big reason the US entry into WWII was so successful
