I'm having doubts about your commitment to the cause.

I live in Manhattan (East side). It takes me almost an hour just to go cross town.

nah nah nah. fuck that.  if we're all going to Chili's, Penelope is going to Chili's.  it'll be absolutely worth it for Harris ending Trump.  she can clean her palate at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal when she's in London.

In 2020, we celebrated thr Biden win at Le Bernardin. It was excellent.

I ate there yesterday as well.  Chips and salsa, burger and fries, and 2 beers.  Out for under 20 bucks, and that includes an iced tea to go.

MD beat me to it.  You're not a team player.

Meh.

I disagree. Staten Island is exactly where you should go, with drummers drumming and pipers piping. Get your hair done up first in one of those Insane Sicilian Duchess pile-up do's so that you command obedience. Whip Staten Island into shape.

SI doesn't have great transport.

Penelope, stop trying to get out of going to Chili’s. You are going.

LOL. I might go to Club Cumming for a watch party if I go anywhere at all.

Y’all are going to make me island hop to get to a Chilis

Effectively what I have to do.

Lol.  She'll take 4 flights, on a whim, to Siberia for a long weekend, but Staten Island and New Jersey are (ahem) a bridge and tunnel too far.

She's safer in Siberia than those two places.

This.

I'm legitimately surprised there isn't one in Times Square. It has all the other middle-America hits.

Rent too expensive probably.

First, you’re going to have to explain to me why Olive Garden on NYE is a thing. Much less a thing people wild do more than once. You know the breadsticks are always free, right?

This is a fucking thing, and if it’s a blowout you need to get your ass to a Chile’s. Take the day off if necessary,  but get it done. I’m probably going and eating fucking nothing but vodka but I’m going.

$450 all you can drink party with view of the ball drop that you don't have to wait all day in the cold/wet for. I posted video in the Tell Me About NYC thread.

To be fair, I think it’s less about the inconvenience and more about her feeling NJ and Staten Island are so far beneath her they’re not even the earth’s mantle.

It’s worth it

As usual, and unsurprisingly, you’re totally fucking wrong.

It's about inconvenience. As mentioned earlier, it takes me an hour just to go cross town. To go to the closes Chili's from my house (working remotely that day) will be a minimum of 1.5 hours each way.

@PenelopeWitherspoon I think we should do an adventure to the SI Chili’s. We’d cancel out each other’s sore thumbness for being there so we’d be safe.

Way too fucking far. And with shitty transport.

I didn’t go anywhere the day after the 2016 election because I was still way too drunk to drive.

This. I stayed up drinking until at least 4 am.

Sadly, I can't join in the Wednesday Chili's celebration.  I have a colonoscopy Thursday, and I don't think that would be appreciated.  However, less than one mile from where I am having the procedure there is, you guessed it, a Chili's.  I have already had my wife to commit to this for lunch Thursday.

She is baffled as to why I would request this.

Drink enough margaritas and you won't need the prep.

Well, I forgot to mention (because the whole idea is ridiculous to begin with), she want's to be in wine country with a vineyard.

Neither of us drink.

Alsace. Yeah, it's white wine but since y'all don't drink, no harm.

Plus, lots of country folk in Alsace (no muthuhfuckuhs I'm not talkin about Strasbourg and your fancy friends there who speak great French I'm talkin country folk) speak Alsatian (think: Cajun German) as their first language, so their French is slower and choppier, exactly like an Anglophone American learning French. So you're halfway there.

Plus mucho beer everywhere, mountains to hike on, and tarte flambée. Goot Got Yawl.

Just across the border is Geneva where even the girl in the the kiosk who sold my exchange-student daughter a matcha spoke English. Your wife just needs to snag a job in Geneva. We stayed in Choulex where there were plenty of orchards. I don’t have a picture of the exchange student (now 28 yo) handy, but she does have an Only Fans page.

I wonder if I still got any relation floating around Alsace after my Great-Great Grandfather decided Nebraska seemed like a better idea that hanging around after 1871.

I have 3 Birmingham-area Chili's to choose from. All are in paved-over hellscapes. Help me choose.

From closest to farthest:

1. Homewood, "Wildwood Centre", which is no longer wild, wooded, and never was a "centre". I was last inside this one maybe 15 years ago and ordered at the bar where they didn't try to give me that sticky flashing touch-screen. Homewood is mildly blue but who knows what will drag into a Wildwood Centre Chili's.

2. Fultondale, Northside of Birmingham in the Forever 1978 suburbs. The Chili's is perched out over I-65 and will no doubt be full of people from Florida or northern states fleeing homicidal post-election mobs. Years ago at a nearby shopping center my suspiciously ethnic wife felt that she was receiving glares from the Pinkfolk. West Virginia starts about ten miles north of this one.

3. Trussville, Northeast of town, at the bottom end of a massive parking lot of a mall and across the street from a graveyard. An odd burb that went from "country village" to "let's park our money here" inside of 20 years. I went to an art show there a couple years ago and it's a place where you can tell they want art, but at the same time they're kinda pissed off about it. Many of the men look like Barney Rubble.

Wildwood Center grew up in the town, we never knew what it was called.

Some said it was a mall. Some said it was a strip. I never gave it much thought.
