Campaign is upside down.

From that article:

The problem with that premise is, of course, that the Harris-Walz campaign is reportedly in debt to the tune of $20 million, and it appears the operation is attempting to strip the wires from the walls in order to fend off its creditors. (It’s bad enough that the campaign is allegedly shopping around its email list, which is great news for our spam filters.) This sell-off comes after Harris managed to raise more than $1 billion for her four-month campaign.

This just shows that you can spend over billion in politics, and still lose. Throwing money isn't the winning strategy.

The thing is that all that money shouldn't be spent on political campaigns. It should be spent on setting up new social/media institutions that work constantly, like the right has done.  That money needs to be spent on the culture war, not saved for the last month of every campaign season.

Her campaign needed some Bobs

The main problem is twofold

1. Harris herself, but let's assume for now that she had a chance of winning.

2. (Besides Harris herself) The Dems used a half measure when they should have gone all the way.

Joe Biden was a 2-ton anchor tied around your leg while you're drowning, and instead of making it unmistakably clear that she wouldn't be Joe Biden 2.0 she hemmed and hawed (the way she hemmed and hawed about everything else), and even worse, she kept working with the same fucking losers who had been running his campaign, the same people who knew back in 2022 he was in no shape to run again but were arrogant enough to proceed anyway.

I'm not convinced that Harris could have done anything to win, but assuming hypothetically that she DID have a chance, it would have required her to completely purge the campaign of the same morons whose efforts yielded internal polling having Biden losing NEW FUCKING YORK and Trump getting over 400 electoral votes.

I don't think I've gotten these (didn't give money to the presidential campaign) but I do keep getting emails from Bob Casey's campaign (didn't give there either) asking for money.

Bro. You're down 30k votes. You've been down 30k votes for a week. Every time the numbers change, you're down 30k votes. Your opponent has been invited to Senate freshman orientation. I don't know why the race isn't called. Fuck off.

all this navel gazing "the party learned a big lesson and needs to do some introspection on itself" bla bla bla bullshit every four years always cracks me up...just like it did in 2008 for republicans, 2010 for dems, 2012 for republicans, 2014 and 2016 for dems, 2018, 2020, and 2022 for republicans, and now 2024 for dems. while it certainly gives a bunch of folks (especially a few here) the opportunity to project some level of superiority or gloating that "if only this enormous national apparatus of political machination that seeks to bring compromise to a million different competing interests have listened to me about who they were not properly advocating for...," it really is just a bunch of nonsense and an excuse for a bunch of marginal magazines and marginal journalists and opportunity to do longform post-mortems full of hindsight bullshit. just as much nonsense as all the poor, broken people who have been peacocking around this forum the last week making extraordinarily lame attempts to dunk on everyone else while betraying just how broken they truly are.

american politics is actually quite a simple equation for a few decades now and it really is just a consequential derivative of our society accepting (if not advocating for) a crony capitalism economic system flirting with all out oligarchy. because of the extraordinary and accelerated changes in wealth inequality over the last few decades, the overwhelming majority of the impoverished, poor, lower-middle class, and middle-middle class are now substantially poorer in a relative sense than they have ever been. there is very little dignity and they are overwhelmingly bombarded through media, entertainment, social media, and even politics with how inferior their lifestyles are now which gives them the perception of failure and a miserable experience of daily grinding. they are unsatisfied in their lives relative to how they believe models on instagram live, billionaires on private planes, etc... these are the majority of voters.

when people feel perpetually unsatisfied and unhappy, they are not rational about economics and no one out there is pointing them to the fact that in this time of "extraordinary inflation" before and after tax corporate profits have increased from 2.4 trillion a quarter in 2019 to 4.1 trillion this year. since they don't understand that, the only person to blame for the malaise and their general dissatisfaction is the most visible and perceived powerful person in the nation. life sucks and someone else is to blame. i will punish the status quo by electing something different (which is just a continuation of the status quo under a different color). for trump in particular, he exacerbates the appeal because these people that believe they have nothing to lose don't see him for what he is (the guy unapologetically stealing their life savings and exacerbating the inequality), they farcically see him as iconoclast and agent of burning everything to the ground. the preceding are the most important contributing elements to presidential elections now.

second, harris was a minority woman. minority is not that bad, woman is the worst possible sin. particularly amongst hispanic men, white men, and a heeeeeell of a lot more women than is polite to discuss.

third, biden's choices thrust harris into a losing position and created an environment with no real alternative and was just a bad situation.

there's really not much more to it than that.

2026 and 2028 will be a reaction to this election when all these suckers and losers (not the maga cult ones but the rest of them) realize that their lives are still shit (likely much worse) after a few years of the upcoming circus.

Lol as much shit as everyone wants to talk about the president-elect, I'm really surprised people haven't piled on more against Kamala. She's become completely irrelevant overnight.

You kind of answer your own question there. The irrelevant are not usually targets for discussion.

I think the newsmedia assumption that there was surely a way for her to win did lead to a period panel discussions where she was criticized, but she's out of the picture now.

I was shocked to read that her campaign burned through a billion dollars and is still asking for money. I was put off by how fervently they clawed us for cash. I went to her sight where I bought a sign and made a small contribution as well. There were pop-ups while I was entering payment information.

I unsubscribed as soon as I completed my purchase. Good advice from someone here.

I think this is an exercise in proving that a billion TV ads that cost tens of millions of dollars is not some guaranteed path. The TV news guys like to talk about money raising instead of issues, so I guess they're glad about it.

Shrug.

DNC is perpetually stuck in 2004 thinking. They even have their "young" staffers thinking this way. It's MackBrownTexasFootball all the way down.

What's there to talk about? She lost. She's a lame duck VP. She's not doing or going to do anything newsworthy. She's not riling up supporters or going to incite an insurrection at the capitol.

Romney became irrelevant overnight. McCain and Kerry remained relevant as Senators and that's it. Gore became irrelevant overnight after the election was decided. Dole became irrelevant overnight, or maybe was even irrelevant before the election. This is how it's supposed to go. You keep your mouth shut.

The Democratic Party needs to clean house and bring in a whole new set of people who can figure out how to capture the right data, combat disinformation, establish the right campaign strategies, develop the right messaging, and execute that messaging. And that whole turnaround needs to start now and continue mercilessly for the next four years. Bang the messaging drum constantly for four years, just like the Republicans do.

Find yourself a Bill Clinton that can lie and be a piece of shit when need be. It's what the people want.

100% this.

I wish that wasn't true.  Because Clinton is and always was loathsome.  But man, did people love him.  For similar reasons as Trump (vibes).  That's what it takes to win a presidential election in the US.  It's just the way it is.  We are a shitty people, so we insist on electing mostly shitty people.

We need a straight, white, male, AOC. Instead of chasing an ever moving middle, go left. Run on Universal
health and tax cuts for everyone under $400k etc etc.

We need brain transplants for about 75% of our population. When you've got people saying they voted for Trump because "he'll save abortion", and huge spikes on election day in searches for "did Biden drop out?", you're in a different spot. Honestly I think name recognition did it. Everyone knows who Trump is. Half our fucking idiot population probably doesn't know who Kamala Harris is.

Wait - are you bald or short? Gotta check all the TV boxes.

Apparently, being a shameless serial sexual predator is a pretty strong point in your favor.  Pussies are for grabbing, and shoving cigars into, apparently.  America: that's how we roll.

I'd say "sorry, ladies".....but enough women enthusiastically vote for that stuff that....yeah, I can't figure it out either.  Same reason I could never figure out how some gals I knew kept running from one abusive relationship to another.  But that's what they did, without fail.

So, we need an old white dude who is a sexual predator, and a good huckster with little regard for the truth.  That's how you win two terms in the White House.  The black dude?  What an anomaly.  And he broke our brains anyway.

No. Just run on the economy. That’s the only thing that wins elections. After you win, you can literally implement any policy you want and history has shown Americans will shrug their shoulders and live with it. You just can’t run on any of that shit.

I guess all of Trumps howling and disinformation spreading about the 2020 election being stolen and never actually admitting he lost worked very well in keeping him in power and in focus within MAGA GOP and kept him the presumptive nominee, couldn't move on even if they wanted to (they didn't) where as Democrats gonna forget Kamala exists even quicker than Trump forgot Pence existed...or had a right to be alive and not swinging from a rope...
