2024 Presidential Election Thread - Let's keep the party going.

I would demand a rule change for the next debate - live fact checking. Trump will say no, Biden can bow out stating there is no point in a debate when the other guy fills the time with lies.

Biden is losing the election in basically every poll with no good answers or path on how he can recover, and deep blue Dems want to keep him in the race because they think it's unfair to Joe that he would be replaced. Just bonkers.

His whole campaign stump speech is the fascist rhetoric mixed in with a stand up comedy routine. People come to see him they laugh a lot and then they leave liking him. It’s instinctive and frankly genius. Now evil too but (evil) genius nonetheless. He’s been an entertainer since the apprentice. It’s how he inoculates himself from his lies and bullshit, it’s a fucking comedy routine.

Also, Pelosi’s public statements have all but said he needs to leave. She is just giving him the opportunity to honorably withdraw.

This is where I am with those who want him to staying. What exactly can he (the campaign) do right now that they haven’t been doing that will make up 5-6% between now and October?

In 2020, Joe Biden was getting his ass kicked in Iowa and NH primaries. A lot of people were thirsty for new blood leading the Dem ticket. Then the SC primary happened. A major event. And the entire race flipped and basically ended that night. Everyone was asked to stand down and get in line with Joe. They weren't excited about it (including me), but obviously you vote for Joe and defeat Trump.

A major event happened at that Presidential debate last month. Like SC basically ending Bernie and Pete and Warren/etc. chances of winning the primary, this recent Presidential debate ended Joe's chances.

Now it's time for Biden Dems to return the fucking favor, and they fucking dig their heels in. Fuck.

Rep. Pelosi and Rep. Joseph Morelle (NY) are the 2 rumored House Reps asking Biden to step down and Sen. Schumer and Sen. Michael Bennet (CO) are the 2 rumored Senators.

Correct. And you can go even further and ask what can he do right now to not fall even further behind?

Bart: “I’m from a casino.”

Yeah, those plans look like they may not be that great. Let's just stick with the guy most of American is not enthusiastic about and hope for the best. I'm sure he'll close the gap any day now.

The polls are wrong, if you're that worried, get involved. There are plenty of campaigns that need the help

Full text:

One reason I doubt there’ll be a “mini primary” now is that I don’t think the other major candidates would run. There’s not enough time for them to win support. The process would be too unclear. Party is too exhausted. Harris looks too strong. (People shouldn’t underestimate how closely party elites have been watching her these last few weeks, and how much she’s shifted opinions in her favor.) You might get some token opposition from people who want to raise their profiles, do CNN town halls, etc - which could be good for Harris because her win would be both contested and overwhelming — but strongly doubt you’d get Newsom, Whitmer (already said she won’t run), Shapiro, Beshear, etc. Safer for them to position for VP or 2028. If Biden had stepped aside weeks ago it might’ve been different. If Jaime Harrison had been thinking through options rather than making himself a Biden-no-matter-what guy, maybe it would have been different. But that’s my read of where the party is now. (Caveats: Everything is fluid, Biden might still just refuse to step aside, if Harris falters that could change sentiment, etc)

Polls that matter most - Ohio, Wisconsin, Az, Georgia, Fl, Pa. Nv, Michigan

did I miss a swing state ?

Ohio and Florida are over. They don't matter. If Michigan is close enough to be concerning, it's all over.

It's like the Taliban creating child soldiers.

[Pelosi is said to prefer the open/mini-convention]

“On Saturday, Rep. Mark Takano, the top Democrat on the House Veterans Affairs Committee, added his name to the list of nearly three dozen Democrats in Congress who say it’s time for Biden to leave the race. The Californian called on Biden to “pass the torch,” to Harris.

More lawmakers are expected to speak out in the days ahead. Donors have raised concerns.”

If your opinion is “I can’t vote for Biden because he’s old, so I have to vote for the fascist,” you weren’t that far from already voting for him.

I would guess most voters in this country do not view a second Trump presidency with anywhere near the amount of trepidation displayed on this board.

Theory: Biden hasn't dropped out yet because Harris is still in her probationary period as candidate.  She came out of her bunker shortly after the debate and I think the decision makers want to collect data on how she's perceived with the electorate.  If the people, including Biden, see what they need to see they will transition to Harris.

Until then, Biden and his team will forcefully suggest that he is all in, because he may have to stay in if the initial returns aren't good on Harris.

I don't believe at all there is a plan C and I think this is a prudent approach given that behind the scenes there are still many elected Democrats on both sides of the Biden/Harris fence.

You need to be as certain as you can be in trying to determine which of Biden or Harris is the best candidate to win the EC and I think that is a more important consideration than moving quickly because of worry about the effect of Biden slander (which I've already opined that I don't think it ultimately matters at all).

Right now you have options.  If you sideline Biden, it's Harris.  You can't say "oops" then.
