2024 Presidential Election Thread - Let's keep the party going.

The interesting data point from that poll is it shows significant potential ticket splitting as it has Ds in the lead in the Senate races in Arizona, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Personally I believe these polls are reflecting a “protest” from people unhappy with Biden related to Gaza/inflation. I think these voters will come back to Biden when the vote actually counts. Also, the Biden campaign really needs to remind voters in certain battleground states of Trump’s view of Palestinian and Muslims.

Right. Trump plays on people's insecurity and their innate desire to protect what's theirs through cruelty towards the groups they perceive as trying to get what's theirs. Immigrants, poor people, liberals, the government, other minorities who aren't "the good ones".

Why I don't think it should shock anyone that Trump is doing well with young people is I think when you're young, you can be incredibly cruel and unable to see the consequences of your cruelty. Trump flames people he doesn't like. He says what he wants. He gets away with saying what he wants. He's wealthy. That's empowering to a bunch of people who have limited power. Then you couple that with a society telling them they are being replaced by women and minorities, people who are standing in the way of you getting what's yours, what you're entitled to as a white male. The aggrieved have a champion in Trump.

Pretty much.

Because there really doesn't exist any reality in any multiverse that Rosen is winning in NV, but Trump is up 12.  No one is up 12 in Nevada - it will be 1-3 points.  As always.

I'd bet that the campaign staff desperately want Haley in the fold somehow but Trump himself is against it. They know that he needs her voters in order to have a chance.

This.  His recipe for success isn't any more complicated than that.  He plays to the worst of humanity and would you look at that....the "worst of humanity" is a big fucking number.

And this.  If we insist on putting the gun in our mouth and pulling the trigger because "that has to be better than the vague shit we've been told to fear/hate about Biden," then we deserve every bit of our gray matter flying out the back of our collective skull.

Those same polls - 75/25 in favor of people feeling pretty good about their financial situation

But then the massive disconnect to "this country is going to fail and the economy sucks!" is what happens when the media reinforces those negative beliefs.

See, also: "my congressperson is great, but Congress sucks!"

Contrary to dummy-dum-dum conventional wisdom, the NYT poll indicates Biden has problems with the fence sitting moderates. The brunch crowd is sleepwalking the nation into an autocracy.

We are going to deserve all of the pain that’s coming our way. It’s going to be brutal and horrific….but that’s how we roll these days.

The President should make my life better and if my life sucks its the President's fault not mine or my poor decisions that have led to my life sucking.  I know many on here hate Bill Maher but the end of his show last Friday night was quite good I thought.  He hammered the media for how they skew things, but he also basically said everybody should basically look in the mirror and ask if their life is that bad.  The media tells us the world is falling apart and our lives are terrible because of it but if we really asked ourselves (even everyone on this forum), how is your life in general then most of us would probably say it's pretty good.  All those Trumpers that Fox News is telling them to be afraid of immigrants sneaking in our country and raping and murdering everyone are most likely living in nice homes, with good jobs, friends and family around them and in states where this issue doesn't really affect them.  Most people on both sides that are successful were successful under Trump, Biden, Obama before that and so on.  Those that are struggling now were probably struggling under Trump also. The President doesn't affect your life the way people want to believe.

It is whatever Trump says it is.  It's not that the system doesn't work for them, it does, but it also works for minorities and they're not white.   That's all it is.  Fox exists for them.  Their gripe is what?  Trump added 8.3 trillion in debt in one term.  Did it cut inflation?  Make the price of goods and perishables decrease?  Cut home prices?  The petroleum industry has been booming under Biden.  Has the cost of oil and gas gone down?  How about billionaires--are they getting pinched?  Are illegals tanking the economy?  Are any of their gripes based on reality or Trump?  If we said Trump, then that's their reality.  He appeals to the sense of white nationalism for the poor and middle class, and deregulated industries for the upper.  What's strange are minorities supporting white nationalism, and the middle class actively clamoring for unfettered billionaire gains, when there's no trickledown.

The lack of critical analysis is really what is killing me.  These polling results would indicate the greatest demographic shift in our lifetime and there is absolutely no attempt to reconcile this.  Just "welp, looks like ol' Joe is in trouble!"

If the polling industry didn't exist, the common refrain would be a Biden blowout.  Every real indicator is pointing that way... the polling is the ONLY thing giving Trump a chance.  It's all just so weird.

It's like Aggy recruiting.  The keep losing everything but this new class looks great.

They probably still view Trump as an outsider and not of the GOP without realizing that he IS the GOP.

It's also possible that there is just an "anti-incumbent" movement and since the GOP reps and Biden are incumbents they simply choosing "the other guy."

there are simply 4 certainties in all of this while we all dance around the Mayfair pole (with a monkey in some cases)

1.  There are no votes to be converted.  No independents to inspire to the ballot box.

2.  There is only shaming a few million Trump "middle section" voters to stay home out of embarrassment in key states where no other high-stakes elections are in cycle.

3.  There needs to be plan in place for the havoc that Trump will call into action if he loses.  Shit is gonna get wild and right quick.

4.  If he does actually win, which despite this bullshit polling, is still a distinct possibility.  Many of us can reboot our GOP relationships, put on a hat, blend in, and matriculate.  And I will be the first one at the train depot when Women for Trump, Muslims for Trump (because Biden & Israel), Hispanics for Trump, Blacks for Trump, and Apathetic 18-25yo for Nobody are rounded up and sent away.  We have done this 1000 times in human history.  That he's made it so obvious and you are so oblivious towards it, is what makes us special.  As the famed French Archeologist Belloq tells us, this is not movement through history.  This is history.  And I will make sure I do my part to make sure those in support of this monster become history.  And then forgotten.

30% of their LIKELY VOTERS didn't vote in 2020 or 2022.  That's literally the typical definition of "likely voter," so they're using a much different screen that is probably about enthusiasm or interest and not, ya know, people who have voted in the last 2 national elections.

I believe it's "Bellosh".

You're thinking of the tennis hustler from New York who did once travel through France alongside one woman's erotic train journey from Milan to Minsk.

I speak of Rene Emile Belloq who died off the coast of Greece in 1936.

to your point, however.  They both had a penchant for skullduggery.

This is similar to a previous poll/article that included extensive commentary from a supposed independent in Arizona. NYT did absolutely no background checking because a cursory glance of the guy's Twitter feed revealed someone who had been all MAGA since 2016.

For some reason I still remember watching an interview before the 2016 election, with a couple in I think Wisconsin. They had a huge house and a bunch of nice cars in the driveway, and were planning on voting for Dotard, because of how terrible their lives supposedly were. Nothing they could articulate though. "Yeah, you know how things are now... with all the, you know, bad things happening. It's just everywhere, you know? So we're voting for Trump."

“We see it every night on Fox News.”

I mean, let's all be honest.  Politics aside.  There is a parallel universe to this one where goofy-ass Eric is standing outside a tent with his fucked up mouth and oddly Southern-Drawl for a rich kid from New York.  And he's carnival barking for grift.  "Ladies & Gentleman.  Children of all ages!  May have your attention please?  The show is about to begin!  For a meager $2, come inside the tent to observe the world's most awkwardly tall teenager, a bearded man who can consume 2 grams of cocaine in less than a minute, a Balkan woman who can swallow 2 grams of semen in less time than that, and a dude named Jared who never speaks but somehow absolutely terrifies you with his awkward silence!  Take your seats, the show is about to begin!"

It's almost like its on purpose bullshit from people with less than honest motives.

Media is broken.  They want the horserace, hell they probably want a Trump presidency. "Think of the ratings we will get covering what that crazy son of a bitch will say or do next 24/7/365".

And I don't see that changing until somebody or a lot of some bodies are made to bleed.  You take the good and noble 1st Amendment and weaponize it to foist propaganda on a society with quickly eroding critical thinking skills, increasing levels of isolation and fear, and an ever-increasing blame complex all under the guise of free speech.

TRUMP 2024!!! emoji631.png get mad about it, bitches!

As parents often say, "We're not mad about it.  We're just disappointed."

I'm starting to feel better about his being defeated at the ballot box despite all his corrupt efforts.  What I'm really starting to worry about is what his tantrum will be like afterwards, what his bullshit calls to arms will do to my country, and how much heroin my organs can process.

There are people that I know and love that I struggle with the notion of having to shake their shoulders and explain to them that "It's over.  He lost and/or Dead.  And you have to come to grips with that for the sake of your children.  It's done.  We haven't always seen eye to eye on Trump.  But he's not going back to the Oval and you need to snap out of it and not hurt yourself or anyone else.  You still have a bright future ahead of you."  We've all been bummed out over elections, we've all seen family members bitch and moan about politics.  But when this guy loses and dies, for some people we still hold near and dear---it will be the most awkward exchange of our relationships.  Your messiah is gone, and there is no shroud, no tomb, no rock, no 40 day return.  Just this rock and just our family and just our community.  And we gotta stay together because for the next 11 weeks, shit is gonna get real fucking weird and right quick.
