You too!

In March 2020, during that year's election campaign for President of the United States, Tara Reade alleged that Democratic nominee Joe Biden sexually assaulted her in 1993 in a Capitol Hill office building when she was a staff assistant in his office. Biden denied Reade's allegation.

I mean, everyone realizes that if Joe were to have real problems, Kamala would become president anyway, right? How exactly does it move the needle to put her on the top of the ticket? Where a bunch of the "concerned moderates" will undoubtedly fall for the incoming wave of racist and misogynistic attacks? Yeah, that'll work, sure thing.

Awesome, a debunked story. At least Sleepy Joe didn't eat a dog. Maybe that's where the brain worms came from. Maybe you need to check yourself for brain worms if you think voting for that shitbag is an awesome idea.

People would rather see what she has to say and then decide on her worthiness to be President than just assume she'll be good when Biden steps down/gets 25th Amendmented.

I mean, if we are being serious about her -

Harris/Beshear (KY-GOV) - he's term-limited in 2027

Harris/Shapiro (PA-GOV)

Harris/Cooper (NC-GOV) - he's term-limited in 2024

Harris/Ossoff (GA-SEN)

Harris/Kelly (AZ-SEN)

Those are probably your best ticket options.  In my mind, at least.

Shapiro is the best option since you need the Rust Belt to win this.

Kamala Harris top choice to replace Joe Biden if he steps aside, sources say

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/vp-harris-top-choice-replace-biden-election-race-if-he-steps-aside-sources-say-2024-07-03/

WASHINGTON, July 3 (Reuters) - Vice President Kamala Harris is the top alternative to replace U.S. President Joe Biden if he decides not to continue his reelection campaign, according to seven senior sources at the Biden campaign, the White House and the Democratic National Committee with knowledge of current discussions on the topic.

Biden's fumbling, sometimes-incoherent and widely-panned first-debate performance against Republican rival Donald Trump last week set off a wave of panic within the Democratic party over concerns that he may not be fit enough to serve a second term, and prompted calls for top aides to resign.

Some influential Democrats have floated alternatives to Biden besides Harris, including popular cabinet members and Democratic governors like Gavin Newsom from California, Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan and Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania. But trying to sidestep Harris is wishful thinking and would be nearly impossible, these sources, who did not wish to be named, said.

If named as the party nominee, Harris, 59, would take over money raised by the Biden campaign and inherit campaign infrastructure, the sources said. She also has the highest name recognition among all the alternatives, and the highest polling among Democrats who could seriously be considered a candidate, the sources said.

In a Reuters/Ipsos poll published Tuesday, Harris trailed Trump by one percentage point at 42% to 43%, a difference that was well within the poll's 3.5 percentage point margin of error, a showing statistically just as strong as Biden's.

In addition, she has already been vetted for national office and has survived intense scrutiny from Republicans, they said. Also, U.S. Representative Jim Clyburn, the man who was key to Biden's 2020 win, told MSNBC he would support Harris to be the Democratic nominee if Biden stepped aside.

"It's pretty near impossible to win the nomination over the vice president," said Michael Trujillo, a Democratic strategist from California who worked for Hillary Clinton's campaign in 2008 and 2016.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said on Tuesday that Biden just had a "bad night" at the debate and would continue to make his case for reelection to the American people. The Biden campaign deferred to Harris's team for comment on the story.

Harris's aides dismissed any talk of a Democratic ticket that doesn't include both Biden and Harris. "Vice President Harris looks forward to serving a second term with President Joe Biden," a statement from her office said.

Biden's campaign has amassed 3,894 delegates after state primaries, leaving only a few dozen "uncommitted" delegates outstanding. They are expected to formally nominate Biden later this month in a virtual meeting, ahead of the Democrats' nominating convention in August.

"All of the delegates are not just Joe Biden delegates, they are Kamala Harris delegates," Trujillo said, adding "she will have a sizable delegation and support in all 50 states on day one," he said.

Donna Brazile, the former interim chair of the Democratic National Committee, who has a key committee role at this year's Democratic National Convention in August, said the person who can step in right away, if Biden decides not to run, is Harris.

"People may have dreams of another superhero but there is a process and the last time I checked it's a Biden-Harris ticket, she's number two on the ticket," Brazile said, adding Biden remains the nominee for the Democratic party and "is not going anywhere."

Passing over the first Black and woman vice president for another candidate would lead to a backlash from Black and women voters who are key to any victory, several Democratic strategists said.

'IMPOSSIBLE TO IGNORE KAMALA'

Still, Harris has been sidestepped in a lot of the speculation since the debate because some influential Democrats have little faith she can beat Trump, four of the sources said.

The United States has never elected a woman president, and Harris has spent much of her time as vice president struggling to distinguish herself in a role that is by definition a supporting one. As recently as last year, many inside the White House and the Biden campaign privately worried she was a liability for the campaign.

Since then, Harris has managed to find her stride on the issue of abortion rights but her polling has not improved significantly. Harris's approval ratings hover under 40%, but according to recent polling highlighted by the Biden campaign, she and the president have similar odds of beating Trump.

The vice president has also been consistently targeted by Republicans and conservative media in attacks many allies consider sexist and racist.

Three Democratic donors, who have recently been pushing for Biden to step aside, also said this week they think it will be "impossible" to sidestep Harris. The donors had been floating Whitmer and Newsom's names as possible alternatives until the past weekend.

"There is a real conversation in the Democratic party about leadership right now, but fair to say, and I'm not thrilled about this... it will be impossible to ignore Kamala," said one of the donors.

Another donor said "she's nobody's choice, but yeah, nearly impossible."

Still, the president's reelection campaign is standing its ground, emboldened by a stronger performance by Biden during a scripted speech in North Carolina even as calls for him to step aside grow.

Stephanie Cutter, deputy campaign manager for former President Barack Obama, whose firm is on contract to produce the Democratic National Convention in August, said "President Biden is the nominee and he's going to remain the nominee."

"For those who are looking for some sort of interparty fight, be careful what you wish for because that would ensure a Trump victory," she said in a statement.

I don’t know if anyone else watched ABC News last night but it just hit me like a brick that the plan is already in motion. You could tell by the coordinated messaging. They even had Pelosi on camera basically saying voters are right to question whether Biden can continue. There is NO way she does that unless it’s happening.

Interesting that the NYT poll showed that Biden narrowed Trump’s margin with independents. It’s mostly skittish Dems right now

Well I think some would argue we never got a true primary because everyone deferred to Biden even if they had rightful reservations about his age and how much he may or may not be diminished. We're not having that discussion because it's very real. It played out for the whole country to see and it could lose all of us everything.

Nothing is more big D democrat than convincing Joe Biden not to run only to put Kamila Harris at the top of the ticket.

Donald trump will not lose to a woman. Period.

In addition the short time period from now until November means we need name ID.

i can’t see anyone other than Gavin Newson to fill the top of the ticket.

Never underestimate the power of looking presidential, being tall, and being good looking. Especially when you’re running against a fat ghoul who keeps talking about criminals and people killing babies after they’re born.

Yup. It's not fair, at all, but it's absolutely true, a woman, a Black women especially, has zero chance, period. It would play right into maga's hands. I agree, if a change was absolutely necessary, it has to be Newsome, he is the most skilled politician available.

Emphasized for truth.  If you think that nominating a black woman to be voted on by the shit-for-brains voter in this fetid shithole of a country has ANY chance of turning out well, you haven't been paying attention.  To anything.  At all.

We are a lot closer to the country that didn't allow women to vote or have a credit card, and that lynched black people with no repercussions, than we are to a country that will elect a black woman president.  You don't have to like that truth, but it doesn't make it any less true.

Neither is Biden's, but lets keep saying it, because some "centrists" who thus far are okay with another presidency from donald fucking trump might just change their minds. They definitely won't fall for the next wave of attacks on the new candidate. Cause their just so smart, which is why they are still on the fence over whether donald fucking trump should be president again.

I am not sure Newsom can win being from California.  The right will blanket the airwaves until election day with Newsom will turn your state into the hell hole that is CA with homeless people everywhere, crime everywhere, drag queens teaching your kids, etc... ( I love California so I don't personally believe any of that shit).  They will flat out put lies out there, but I guarantee you it will scare the shit out of enough independents that they will vote for Trump.  That is the biggest problem with Biden dropping out.  Fox News and the right will just lie about whomever becomes the nominee and unfortunately, they will win the propaganda battle.

You know, yesterday I thought there was no way you replace Joe with Kamala. No way she can win because she's a black woman. Today, I feel differently. Yes, we're a racist and misogynistic country but one of the single biggest winning issues for Democrats is abortion rights. Supposedly, she's made good headway by talking about it. If you elevate her to be the nominee, you take away Trump's single biggest issue, that Biden is too old and feeble to be President. You then make him the old and feeble one. Then you get everyone on board to go after him. You get women out to vote. You get out the African American vote. You have a puncher's chance of winning.

With Biden we're definitely getting another 4 years of Trump. The damage has been done. Now every point going forward that he slips up, it will be magnified. I'd rather roll the dice with Kamala. Sure, we probably lose but you change the narrative back to what Trump's next 4 years would look like instead of will Biden survive to serve out his term. The Democrats need to change the message because right it's not a winning strategy. I don't love our chances but we're not winning with Biden.

not sure what point you are trying to make is. But Biden 100% looked unelectable during the debate.

We can all howl at the moon at how unfair it is that Trump is a deranged lunatic and senile Biden “isn’t Trump” or we could try something else.

What is the current perception of San Francisco right now with middle America? Gavin's hometown is thought to be a shithole filled with crime, drugs, and rampant homelessness. It's very easy to plaster than over and over and have it be an effective strategy.

They'll be playing videos of her side by side with Hillary Clinton. She'll be considered just as unlikeable within a month. The independents that will supposedly swing this election will fall for every attack on every replacement, period, that's who they are. The only possible appeal to them is Biden's four year record of accomplishments. Anyone who is on the fence between donald trump and literally anybody else is already a lost cause.

So 8 years of y'all and the media talking about Trump tapping into an ugly and unengaged portion of the American electorate.  And the grand idea is to put a new ticket forward topped by somebody that will bring out even more of the ugly and unengaged portion of the American electorate, a significant portion of whom were somewhat likely to sit this one out?  Because reasons?

Oh yeah, totally forgot.  This is the election cycle to tell moderates and independents like me that it's time to try something bold and progressive with 7 million swing state lunatics just begging for a reason to get up off their recliners and vote for Trump.  If only the party had 3.5+ years to figure this out ahead of time.  Most of the folks you've mentioned on here are perfectly electable and can raise money and kickass on TV.  But your party doesn't win if all the straight-ticket, MAGA lunatics, middle-of-the-roaders, plus a few million new lunatics turn out to spite some of the nominees you're talking about.  Suppress the unsettled Trump voter turnout.  That's the only way this works.  But yeah, maybe a youth music festival for Kamala will save the Republic.  Where the fuck do these ideas come from?

The CBS poll from today showed Biden up in PA I believe.
But also, yea we should ignore the polling. Again Dems have overperformed the polls nationwide basically since Trump was elected.
We also know the issues with polling this early.

Do you think Kamala would have a better chance of holding the rust belt than Joe? I don’t. Even with Whitmer as a VP. I see basically zero chance that an all female ticket could carry that part of the country. Ask Hillary
