Dems can win with Bernie but it's the most uphill battle and the biggest chance of losing.

But I realize that some Bernie supporters would prefer Trump over other Dem options. It allows them to shake their fist at the clouds.

I'm not going to say that there isn't an uphill battle, but we can safely ignore any neocons in the year 2020. These people are garbage and do not deserve to be listened to.

I may be naive as hell, but I'm betting there are a few Conservatives out there who want someone who is honest and stands for what they believe in. I think someone like Klobuchar could pull a few of those in the Midwest.

Again, I may be naive as hell...

Phonebanking this afternoon and I reached a Bernie supporter. Usually it's just a "right on, brother!" and on to the next call, but I sometimes ask why they decided to become a supporter and he told me that his cousin had killed himself because he got sick and became a burden on his already-struggling family. He said that M4A would mean his cousin was still alive and that the kids would still have a father.

These stories radicalize you.

I'm seeing a lot of this "Midwesterners love Amy" based on what she might do in the future but she finished 5th, behind Joe Biden, in a state adjacent to Minnesota.

5300 in Mesquite. Should've driven up for it.

I was watching it live on Youtube. I kind of expected it to be his same old speech, which it was in content, but holy hell was that crowd energized. At one point there was a lady near the stage that must have fainted or collapsed so he stopped speaking, asked EMT to quickly get to her, and then literally tried to start walking down with his thermos filled with water to her. She was fine and I thought that it was a good moment for him but might kill the energy. I'll be damned if the crowd wasn't twice as loud when he hit his usual points after that.

He wins Texas and California on Super Tuesday then, man, It's looking good.

@bad_teammate not sure if you listen to the Trillbillies podcast (not sure if I've asked that before) but I'm sure you're aware of it. On their latest Patreon episode they released today they're interviewing Sturgill Simpson and not even 5 minutes in they have him talking shit about J.D. Vance lol.

I keep meaning to subscribe. Thanks for the reminder.

11,400 in Denver.

Bernie not impressed with a woman telling him she got a Bernie tattoo.

As much as he is the face of the movement, he literally started getting cranky at that rally in Mesquite when they started chanting Bernie! Bernie! He knows he has to build a movement that is sustainable and he can't be a demagogue, he's old as shit and, I believe, sincerely wants people to believe in a working class movement and not him.

I’m sorry this video is bad. He and his wife were that impressed by the Soviet Union that close to its downfall?

It sounds like a ghastly trip to the Soviet Union literally when it was crumbling. How dare he help Ronald Reagan extend an olive branch to a defeated enemy. And the program he established while he was there - Pure Commie Funny Business:

"The Burlington Yaroslavl Sister Cities Program is a non-profit group promoting the exchange of people and ideas between Burlington, Vermont and Yaroslavl, Russia.

Burlington, Vermont established its sister city relationship with Yaroslavl, Russia, in 1988. Since then, exchanges between the two cities have involved mayors, business people, firefighters, jazz musicians, youth orchestras, mural painters, high school students, medical students, nurses, librarians and the Yaroslavl Torpedoes (currently Lokomotive) ice-hockey team. In 1993, Champlain and Trinity Colleges in Burlington sponsored six students from Yaroslavl; since then, dozens of Yaroslavl students have attended Champlain College. Yaroslavl State University and the University of Vermont have sponsored programs for graduate and undergraduate students going both ways. 20 students from YSU have earned MBA degrees at UVM. In 1997, Burlington Sister City Committee members donated children’s books by Vermont authors and illustrators toward the creation of an English-speaking room at the Yaroslavl Children’s Library.

Yearly exchanges now take place, each trip focusing on a different group and connecting them with like minded people.

The Burlington/ Yaroslavl Sister Cities Program, in cooperation with its Russian counterpart, the Russian – American Friendship Society, facilitates exchanges and understanding between the two cities."

Those Commies are Evil, I tell you. That goodness those Commies are in the dustbin of history. By the way, what is the difference between communism and FDR/JFK/LBJ democracy? Just wondering. Was FDR a Commie?  And what is the difference between Communism and Socialism? Thank you!

Does anyone really think Bernie visiting Russia will be a serious issue if he is running against Donald Fucking Trump?

Nope. Facts are on Sanders (and Reagan's) side for making those trips to the Soviet Union at the same time. It helped transition the Soviets to the a world after the Soviet Empire.

This line of attack is wishful thinking on the part of Never-Trumpers and Trumpers. We had the Cold War won by then and we were in the process of trying to provide the Soviet Union with a soft landing when the Soviet Empire finally collapsed.. Reagan was in the Soviet Union with the same message as  Sanders. In 1988, there was genuine concern about too hard of a landing for the Soviets - given their nukes. We were in the process of showing them they could enter the first world.

Reagan gave Gorbachev (Soviet leader who accepted the Soviets had lost the Cold War for those of you born after the Cold War) a copy of the movie - "Friendly Persuasion." The screenwriter of that film was blacklisted for "Soviet sympathies" in the 50's. It was a story of a Quaker family during the Civil War and how they grappled with their devotion to non-violence. Soviet hardliners wanted take a North Korean stance and/or use their nukes. Gorbachev wanted to open the Soviet empire to the West and modernity. There was great concern Gorbachev would be taken out by the hardliners. Our respectful and thoughtful diplomacy (open arms) emboldened younger Soviets to want to be part of the West.

Sanders played a small roll with many others in advancing that open arms approach. By telling Soviet citizens they could live better, he allowed them to dream of a better life. He and Reagan had the same central message to younger Soviets. It worked.

LOL... Nice spin there, chief. Guess what? If the Bern gets the nod, which I hope he does, that video will be played over and over again and it ain't going to help your cause.  Keep spinning though, it's entertaining.

The irony of an unapologetic Trumpkin complaining about someone being too close to Russia is just too much.

Self reflection is not one of you and your cults strong suits I’m afraid. Same with dear leader.

I suppose from the perspective of someone looking out from inside a wash machine’s spin cycle, everything else looks like it’s spinning.

I hope GRHorn and the crew of Trump memelords continue to post their shitty takes on every one of the Democratic candidate threads. Every time GR and the shitposter crew invade one of these threads, it just reinforces that I'm going to run to the polls with bells on to vote for whoever the Democrats nominate. Every one of those posts undoes some of the damage that this primary, combative b_t posts, and inter-party sparring has done.

So I'd like to thank you, GRHorn, Incredulity, Brothahorn, whatever Chrispy alias is around, etc. You continue to provide ongoing perspective that ultimately we need to rally around a candidate if we're going to remove the influence that trash human beings like you have had for four years.

I hope you never stop 👍

Oh it was well past crumbling by 1988, but even more important is the context of the historic moment in which he made these comments. This was at a time when the American society had been beaten over the head for the last 4-5 decades of round-the-clock propaganda about how the Soviet Union was an absolute dungeon, utterly totalitarian, the worst horror spectacle on planet earth, etc. And I don't think you'll find Bernie heaping praises on every single aspect of the USSR, even at its height, which is why he (and Jane) was so selectively picking things out here. Hell, even Chomsky was saying at that time that the Soviet Union was "a dungeon with a floor on human suffering," and Bernie here was just talking about some aspects of that floor.

Right, that's hardly a pitch for the worst aspects of the USSR, but that's never going to stop idiots like GRHorn foaming at the mouth about stuff like this. In their minds, if you say anything less than hyper-critical of Soviet Russia, you may as well move there!

I mean I've been asking the board(s) questions like that for years and no one wants to try it. Hell, I even offered a cousin of mine $500 if he could name me the first socialist literature in recorded history and what it actually said. He wouldn't take it. My suspicion is that he and people like GRHorn want to believe that it all goes back to Karl Marx. They'd be wrong, but here's the thing: even if it was Marx, Marx himself would have vomited at an idea like the USSR. That shit had absolutely nothing to do with even Marxism, which historically has been viewed as a right wing deviation of the socialist movement. In fact, the USSR had a lot more in common with the tsarist system than many would care to admit. The Cheka and KGB? Those were just enhanced instruments of tsarist tyranny...which is why Vladimir Putin acts the way he does even though he's identified himself as an "Independent" since 1995, just 4 years after the USSR dissolved.

This video may play well for Trump via the rubes, but the thing is that the further in history we go, it's less effective even to rubes because that kind of thing only appeals to old rubes. That shit was 32 years ago, and this is the best propaganda that they can create from it?

Ouch, you hurt me so bad!!

No one wants to hurt you. Seriously.

You may end up voting for Trump a second time. That may impress a few in your circle, but don't watch your friends' faces when you declare your admiration of Trump. Watch the other faces who turn away or grimace when you emote. Do it in a group of 20 or 30, and watch how many people get up or turn to someone to whisper something. That is your reality. And there are good reasons for those reactions.

Like the Soviet Union, Trump's ugly time in the sun has passed.

Us, not me.

Some of the most recent posts is why people continue to consider themselves moderates and independents.  Both sides will "honk and clap like seals" for whatever their party leaders tell them.

Yes Trump supporters believe anything they're told.  What is ignored is that anti trumpsters and pure Dem supporters will believe anything they're told by Bernie or Liz or AOC or whoever.  Opposite sides of the same fucking coin.

Until this stupid 2 part system that brainwashes all their followers is thrown out, we'll continue these stupid threads over and over again.  Wish you could vote for a PERSON, instead of a party.

But just like a previous poster said...they're going to run to the polls with bells on to "vote for whoever the Dems nominate".  The Republican supporters do the same damned thing and then both sides cry about "how could you vote for that other guy"...well, the same damn way you vote for yours.  You're told to.  Just lemmings on both sides.

Pretty much exactly what I expected as a response.

Instead of taking anything those of us in the middle have to say, you pretty much just say we're stupid since we don't support your side.  It's also funny that you think you actually know what is good and bad between these parties.  Both have some good qualities, and both have bad qualities.  But I'm sure you think only one side is the devil.

Carry on.
