NASCAR announced on Monday that it will add a new twist to next season’s races with the TNT Sports portion of the 2025 Cup Series schedule featuring an in-season, bracket-style tournament.

The prior three races, airing on Prime Video, will set the seeding for the tournament as the sanctioning body tries the new concept during the first season in its historic seven-year media rights deal.

“With the launch of our new media rights partnerships in 2025, we were excited to partner with Prime Video and TNT Sports to collaborate on fan engagement concepts that drive story lines in our sport and innovation from a production perspective,” said Brian Herbst, NASCAR SVP, media and productions, in a press release.

“Having head-to-head driver matchups for each one of TNT’s NASCAR Cup Series races will add a compelling fan engagement element across media platforms like TNT, Bleacher Report, House of Highlights and NASCAR digital platforms.”

All drivers are eligible for the seeding races, and the top 32 drivers from those events, airing on Amazon’s Prime Video, will qualify for the in-season tournament that starts with TNT Sports’ first race. Seeding will be based on best finish in the three Prime Video races with tiebreakers determined by next-best finish, followed by season points position.

Drivers in the in-season tournament on TNT Sports and Max will compete head-to-head with the higher finishing driver advancing over five rounds. The winner of the in-season tournament will get to take home a $1 million prize.

“It’s never been a better time to be a fan of motorsports, and this new first-ever in-season tournament will bring a new competitive dynamic to NASCAR’s summer race weekends,” said Craig Barry, executive vice president and chief content officer, TNT Sports. “TNT Sports has always been at the forefront of creativity and innovation, and NASCAR is a perfect partner to bring this vision to life across our networks and platforms.”

“We’re excited to be part of NASCAR’s first in-season tournament next season,” said Charlie Neiman, head of sports partnerships, Prime Video. “This tournament will showcase the league’s ability to drive innovation and engage fans with increased competition during a key part of the NASCAR schedule.”

As part of the media rights deal, Prime Video and TNT will evenly split a series of 10 midseason Cup races. Both also own exclusive rights to select practice and qualifying sessions in the Cup Series through the 2031 season.

Amazon’s Prime Video and TNT Sports join FOX Sports and NBC Sports in providing live coverage of all 38 Cup Series races beginning in 2025 and running through 2031.

Uh wtf. It sucks in the NBA don't add it to nascar. They finally got good momentum with great close racing now they going to screw it up with this crap

It gets better - the free in-car camera streams they've been offering are going to be on HBOMax next year.

At least the Atlanta race in June is at night.

Stenhouse is a trash driver. He has many dust ups by racing and creating crashes very early in races. He finally had someone end it. Now the suspensions that'll be coming should be fun. Multiple #47 crew members should be suspension. Also think nascar is at its best when there is hatred between drivers

Eh, I think that having two different tire compounds is something worth continuing to explore. They gave it a shot, but I think they were a bit conservative by giving too much durability to the softs.

And while I haven't paid any attention to the resulting hubbub, I am kind of surprised that KyBu's dudes didn't tell him through the course of the race that Stinkhouse really didn't do enough to provoke that reaction so he could have been more appropriately contrite after the race.

And I only assume that he wasn't...

highly doubt anyone gets penalized from a non points race in this day and age.  Hell Chastain/Gragson didn't even get penalized in their dust up at a points race.

Ricky's dad may get the boot for a few weeks for getting involved, but driver wise meh...move along

well i was incorrect.  just dropped that they fined Ricky 75K

Additionally, four-race and eight-race suspensions have been issued to two crew members of the No. 47 team.

indefinitely suspended Richard Stenhouse — Ricky’s father

Team mechanic Clint Myrick was suspended for the next eight Cup Series races (through events at Pocono Raceway on July 14) for his role, and tuner Keith Matthews was suspended for the next four Cup Series events (through Iowa Speedway on June 16).

Seems pretty fucking harsh

Sounds like Sawyers reasoning is that "he waited around 198 laps"

So if it would be at the end of a race and he just jumps out his ride and goes and punches him everything is OK because it is heat of the moment.

Racing at a place with a tunnel or a bridge would have, you know, kept this from happening

Teresa is toying with him and his fans. I know she renewed the trademark for the #1 already, which the #1 is run by one of the DEI VPs she fired, but I don’t see her letting this go without making Junior pay for it in some way.

Yeah i would be shocked if they didn't. I am sure Daddy Hendricks and Gordon probably got a reassurance from Nascar that it would be granted cause if not then them staying after the long 500 delay would be really idiotic

This Kyle Larson shit is emblematic of NASCAR decision making.  NASCAR ahs pretty much always granted waivers within 24 hours, but they’ve made him wait at least four days and counting.  Meanwhile, guys who deliberately wrecked other cars and took them out of the race got a waiver within 24 hours.  Larson made every effort to get to the race, he brought a shit ton of eyeballs to NASCAR from the Indy 500, and it’s not his fault NASCAR oddly ended the race early.  NASCAR needs him more than he needs them, and if they deny him because they are butthurt that he’s racing Indy and sprint cars while allowing waivers for drivers who melt down on the track and wreck other drivers…somehow that would be fitting for NASCAR.

He also gave nascar a ton of free publicity in the biggest American auto race of the year. Swear people in charge of nascar are intentionally damaging the product

After more drivers started talking to the media on Sunday and yesterday, NASCAR decided to be magnanimous.

“We didn’t take it lightly,” Elton Sawyer, senior vice president of competition, said Tuesday. “There was a lot of discussion internally. … We ultimately landed at giving Kyle a waiver. Essentially our decision-making was, although we had the inclement weather in Indianapolis as well as Charlotte, Kyle made every attempt to get to Charlotte. He was standing in the pit box with his helmet on ready to go.

“Unfortunately we had weather in Charlotte as well, and were unfortunately not able to get the race going again. That’s how we landed on our decision.”

Quote

“This was without a doubt uncharted waters for us,” Sawyer said. “In the past those waivers have been given mostly for medical reasons. … This one was unprecedented in that we had a driver miss one of our races, a championship event, to be at another event. That’s why it took as long as it did.

“There were different views from different people. Everyone had a view on it. The ultimate decision we wanted to get to was the right decision, and we feel like we got there.”

What a bunch of complete assholes.  They’ve given waivers to guys who have wrecked cars and they are acting like he was snubbing NASCAR. Had they not called the race early even as the track was quickly drying, he would have been driving.
