Why did $NMAX (Newsmax) go from $14/share to $130 share? Because fuck it, that's why. $150M in revenue with negative net income completely justifies a $30 billion market cap! Same memestock dynamics as TSLA

I can actually wrap my head around why newsmax would blow up, even if it's basely speculative.

Tesla at this point, not so much.

That thing's junk. Everyone inside TSLA was telling him that but his ego wouldn't listen. Still, it's the only thing in TSLA's stable that's a miss.

No you can't.  There's no reasonable justification why NMAX went to $290 a day after it IPOed at $10.  7.5 million shares priced at $10.  That move to $290 was due to the mechanics of the shorts/locates sytem.

Mercedes has Level 3 autonomy.

Both FSD and Drive Pilot require the driver to be available to intervene but they're not the same.  FSD you enter any address, hit start, and it'll take you to your destination and sometimes park your car. Mercedes's Drive Pilot only works on certain highways.

It just parks your car sometimes? The other times, do you just jump out the door while the car continues on its merry way?

FSD is Level 2. Drive Pilot is Level 3. You’re right, they’re not the same.

It's still the only product in the market that'll take you door to door anywhere in the US.  You can't use Drive Pilot outside of California and Nevada.  And then only on approved highways.

The other times it alerts you to take over when you've reached the parking lot and if you don't take over it stops the car.

If you say so. In a world where Rupert Murdoch's heirs won suit and will have control over the empire once he dies, and who's views are vastly different from Lachlan, I can see an easy world where Newsmax will become the power broking disinformation channel that people turn to for their rage fix. My MIL and FIL already have on Newsmax at their home because Fox "became too liberal." People wanting to get in on that early and now makes sense to me. At the #s it happened, sure, no. But I can make a case where Newsmax is a "buy." I can't make a case where a Tesla is a "buy," and unlike the speculation of newsmax, Tesla has decades of sales data and trends.

That's a reasonable take but it doesn't justify a move from being priced at $10 two nights before to a postmkt print of $289.90 just 36 hours later.

Nothing in the markets make sense to me in general. Truth Social stock once traded at $100, still trades around $20, and has never even remotely made money. Tesla is cratering into the earth from a sales perspective and is priced so much more than legacy car makers it is absurd. None of it makes sense.

Is your argument here that MB should be criticized for working with regulators rather than putting death traps (sorry, "beta" cars) more widely on public roads, regulations be damned?

BTW - for those that really know, this has nothing to do with The fall of Western Civilization, this had simply to do with this:

https://apnews.com/article/tesla-musk-wisconsin-supreme-court-dealerships-101d7608d69dda61aeaf6ebee7903d2b

Tesla was suing to overturn the law that prevents companies from running dealerships, they must be franchises. Elon is big mad about this and has been fighting this for almost a decade.

So yeah, this was simply about him wanting to get his way.

TSLA went from unchanged to as of now up 5% immediately when the news dropped.  It's a positive because the perception is 1.) the less he's involved in government the less backlash TSLA will receive and 2.) he's got a good track record when he's focused on a product.  Personally I doubt he'll block out all distractions enough to focus on TSLA but we'll see.

Everything Trump touches turns to shit. Musk/Tesla will be no different.

There's no reasonable justification for Tesla's valuation since, well, just about ever.  Why should that change now?

Let's not forget that Tesla does not operate standard dealerships - these are not 3rd party franchises, but they are just Tesla stores.

why would $TSLA be up over the last few hours?

https://www.cnn.com/2025/04/03/business/elon-musk-tesla-sales-nightcap/index.html

This article notes that Tesla was rebounding because there is news that Musk is going to be out of the DOGE.

"Then came a Politico report quoting MAGA insiders who say that Musk has overstayed his welcome in Washington."

"...  the administration confirmed that Musk is expected to wrap up his stint as Trump’s hatchet man in late May or June, when his 130 days as a “special government employee” comes to an end. That was enough to reverse a 6% decline in Tesla shares — a sign investors are optimistic that Musk will ditch the cheese-hat shenanigans and focus on his company’s rapidly shrinking market share (and maybe, possibly, deliver on his long-delayed promises to revolutionize autonomous driving.)"

Their last paragraph is solid

Bottom line: Money can buy a lot of things, but not all things. And with Tesla’s continued sales drop, Musk is getting a harsh reminder that he’s not the only one who can wield a pocketbook to send a message.
