FYI, I’ve seen several Fox News commentators laterally refer to videos of various acts of vandalism as “vicious and violent attacks”. It’s a fucking car.

ETA: I’m specifically referring to vandalism of unoccupied vehicles.

Well, it's not like a cop choked a black guy to death.

Hey Elon!  Once upon a time people actually walked across what is now the Bering Strait(lower sea level, don'tcha know)?  At least that is what I learned in second grade geography class.

I can see countries fucking with Tesla sales to get at him, knowing he can't change Trump's mind.

That should say.

Somebody fix my memory:  didn't Tesla originally market an open-wheel roadster?  Not the couple called the "Roadster" but more like a small F1 car?

After repeatedly dying to the game's first boss, Musk rage quit roughly 30 minutes into the stream.

That's the most 12 year-old thing he's done yet, and he's done a lot of them, like designing a truck.

Actually, I shouldn't say that, as even 12 year-olds have some pride and wouldn't rage quit like that. Most would figure out what they were doing wrong and course-correct.

https://electrek.co/2025/04/07/elon-musk-sets-stage-tesla-bail-out-twitter-xai-insane-valuation/

Quote

Within a year of Musk taking Twitter private, Fidelity Investments, which invested in Musk’s Twitter acquisition, revalued its investment as being down 65% from its purchase price.

Quote

A year later, in October 2024, Fidelity valued Twitter, X by now, at just $10 billion.

That’s not surprising since Musk had Twitter take on $12 billion in debt as part of the take-private deal, and revenue fell by roughly half under his leadership.

Quote

By the end of 2024, those people were basically writing down 80% of their investment in Twitter, as per Fidelity.

However, a few months later, in March 2025, X was somehow valued back at $44 billion

Quote

many were skeptical that the valuation could have gone from $10 billion to $44 billion in just 5 months.

Quote

It’s worth noting that xAI had raised only $12 billion at a $40 billion valuation with virtually no revenue as of December 2024, and now it’s a $125 billion company, based entirely on Musk’s valuation, with $12 billion in debt.

I don’t think so, I know the roadster was based on a heavily modified Lotus Elise gliding chassis. Lotus produced them for Tesla. Tesla focused heavily on the powertrain and battery for that run and as a proof of the concept.  I don’t think Tesla wanted to get into that part of the tech too heavily till they proved the market for a “sexy” and upmarket EV.

I'm currently reading Breaking Twitter. It's kind of like a short oral history of Twitter around the time when Elon buys it. It starts 2 years prior and I'm assuming its maybe the 6 months after. Musk bought it the end of Oct 2022 and the book came out in Nov 2023. It's a fun and silly read, it really shows the sausage making of how Elon fucked things up. Dude is an idiot.

The TL;DR the TL;DR: It's a grift.

The TL;DR - this is Elmo gaming the market. He's diluting XAi and X stock to give them "value", but no money is being made or even changing hands. Let's not forget that neither X nor XAi are publicaly traded companies, so this is immaginary paper value. Ed Elson covered this last week on his show and sums it up well (cued up).

So, I have figured out why Trump has had some success as a real estate developer: it's all hucksterism, at which Trump is satanically gifted.  His general business acumen, though, is obviously lacking.

Anyone have a "uniform field theory" as to why Musk has experienced the success that he's had?

He is no different than any other tech bro of the last 30 years. They were lucky, they got rich and they confuse their luck with skill.

And he is of the same vein as Trump in his hucksterism.

First let's look at the luck. He came up with a few ideas in the 90s, which culminated with X.com. Like most of us, you probably never heard of it (I only barely knew about the 90s version), and they were in the right place and right time and were bough up by PayPal and made a boat load of money. But he did shitty there and was forced out. But still rich.

Then he invested in Tesla. And he did OK. But they nearly went bankrupt in 2008, except for a government bailout and around 2018 when the model 3 nearly broke them, but using regulatory credits was able to get them back on track.

But this is where the hucksterism comes in. In exchange for taking no salary around that time, Musk was gifted that massive stock package for meeting stock metrics. And from that time on, he started to become a weaver of the future of Tesla. Most of which hasn't been achieved. Full Self Driving. Battery Swap out Stations, Humanoid Robots, RoboTaxis, etc.

They make a great story, and people lap it up, like their stock and his net worth goes up. But it's all vaporware.

I will give him one piece of credit, at at least prior to 2018. He either had a good eye for top level management or had the right person working under him that did, because he assembled some good teams because he had management in place that could do that. IE SpaceX - this is really the work of Gwynne Shotwell. She is THE reason they is successful, not Elon. Tesla did something right back with the Models S and X. But that management team has also left.

But he's not all rainbows and lollypops. Remember SunCity? The Boring Company? Zip2? Hell even Tesla right now is stagnating and SpaceX is struggling to take their next step.
