I said in the shit that makes you surly thread that it pisses me off when people use “how come” instead of “why” because it sounds fucking stupid and I’ve decided it’s a clear sign of low intelligence.

I think it's even more of a clear sign of low intelligence when someone assumes that people using informal speech (speech with provenance that goes back to Shakespeare at least) have low intelligence while themselves using informal speech. Any person possessing a basic education should be able to realize that "how come" is an informal shortening of the phrase "how did it come to be that." Do you feel similarly about other phrases such as "y'all" being so shortened?

When Musk entered the EV Thunderdome, Tesla was the only game in town, interest rates were at 0%, and most of the country was convinced he was Iron Man. Since then, China has become an EV power player, legacy automakers have been trying to get a cut of the action, debt has become more expensive, and half the country has started to think Musk is Lex Luthor. Things have changed, and Tesla's leadership needs to change along with them or get left behind.

Musk isn't Stark or Lex Luthor.

He's Justin Hammer

Yeah he shouldn’t have said this.  The responses are overwhelmingly for Twitter.  The fact that he didn’t make it a poll is telling.

parody account, but the fact it's believable is because he's posted even stupider shit on a regular basis.

Alex Gibney talks upcoming Elon Musk, George Orwell and David Chase docs

Quote

Gibney told Screen he “keeps reaching out” to the tech billionaire to be involved in the film, but without success so far.

“It’s likely to be seen next year; I’m working on it now,” said Gibney, speaking to Screen at CPH:DOX in Copenhagen where he gave a talk on Tuesday, March 19. “We keep reaching out [to Musk], but I haven’t had any direct engagement with him since the first round of tweeting.”

After the project was announced in February last year, Musk said on X (formerly Twitter), the social media platform he owns, that “it’s a hit piece”; to which Gibney responded “How would you know?”, referencing Musk’s lack of involvement.

Musk to Be Deposed Monday in Twitter Arbitration Case on Layoffs

Quote

Elon Musk is set to be deposed on Monday as the first arbitration hearings get underway involving thousands of former Twitter employees who say they were cheated out of severance pay when the billionaire bought the social media company in October 2022.

The lawfirm of Lichten & Liss-Riordan sent an email to the former Twitter employees who are participating in a class action lawsuit, asking for ideas for questions to ask Musk in the deposition. The deposition will be in-person and last for seven hours, according to the email, which was reviewed by Bloomberg.

fingers crossed we get another transcript here.

https://www.theverge.com/2024/4/30/24145133/tesla-layoffs-supercharger-team-elon-musk-hard-core

Quote

Barely two weeks after initiating layoffs for at least 14,000 staffers, Tesla is now reportedly laying off hundreds more — including senior executives and the majority of its Supercharging team

According to an email first reported by The Information and thenElectrek, the automaker’s senior director of EV charging Rebecca Tinucci is leaving the company on Tuesday, alongside most of the 500-person team she oversaw. Tesla’s head of the new vehicles program, Daniel Ho, is also out along with his team. These cuts come in addition to the recent 10 percent workforce reduction — and Musk’s email leaves room for more.

Quote

In the email sent to executives last night, Musk said he wants Tesla to be “absolutely hard core” about the cuts, and that staffers working under executives who “don’t obviously pass the excellent, necessary and trustworthy test” would also be out of a job. While the full scale of these new layoffs is unclear, Bloomberg previously reported that Tesla’s total headcount reduction that began earlier this month could end up being as high as 20 percent of its workforce, or well in excess of 20,000 employees.

Quote

Tinucci was notably responsible for the rollout of Tesla’s Supercharger network during her six years at the company, including efforts to get other companies to adopt the North American Charging Standard (NACS) developed by Tesla. In his email, Musk says Tesla will still build new Superchargers and complete those already under construction.

Spoiler

Others impacted by the new layoffs include Daniel Ho, a ten-year Tesla veteran who served as director of vehicle programs and new product initiatives, and as program manager for the Model S, 3, and Y vehicles. Most of the public policy team led by former head of policy and business development Rohan Patel (who left the company during the previous wave of layoffs) are also being let go.

These latest job cuts follow what’s already shaping up to be a terrible year for Tesla. The company’s stock price has taken a beating as profit margins sunk to six-year lows amid price reductions that came in response to increased competition and lower demand for EVs. It’s also dealing with a plethora of reputational issues impacting its brand — including never-ending investigations into its Autopilot feature, a recall of its Cybertruck, and Musk’s contentious behavior both online and in the courtroom.

They are getting rid of people involved with new projects and who are responsible for their charging network?  Guess they’ve thrown in the towel on future car designs or improvements to their charging network.  Cybertrucks and charging at home for everybody!

Musk is hemorrhaging cash and after successfully getting HIS charging connector accepted as the NACS he's now abandoning it? Doesn't make a damn bit of sense

I do not know how this corporate performance justifies a $56B comp plan

Elon’s OpenAI Rival Closing in on $6B in Funding.

Despite being only 10-months old and having zero revenue, xAI has its sights set on dethroning OpenAI as the industry leader. Musk plans on connecting the digital and physical worlds by pulling in training data from each of his companies, which include Tesla, SpaceX, Boring Company and Neuralink. While they originally planned on raising $3B at a $15B valuation, investors “received an email that basically said, ‘It’s now $6B on $18B, and don’t complain because a lot of other people want in.” How any human being is able to run 5 companies and have the energy to start a 6th is beyond me. He must have a top-notch blood boy.

Both, I had both but I had to work my ass off one summer in middle school for the Powell-Peralta deck, trucks, and wheels.

It sounds an awful lot like he’s cutting his top earners and that he thinks he can replicate their work with lower earning people in similar roles. I wish him well on that one.

The comments/replies on that thread are incredible. Here's a highlight:

There’s literally no tangent of utter stupidity that Elmo isn’t willing to bolt off on. It’s incredible to watch, I’ve genuinely never seen anything like it.
“Sugar isn’t even sweet, it’s just a lie that your tongue tells you.”
Elmo: “Exactly.”
“Big science has omitted 9 elements that should be on the periodic table, but aren’t. They did this to hide a source of limitless free energy.”
Elmo: “True.”
“Laotians are genetically predisposed to rape puppies. That’s why you don’t see many dogs in Laos.”
Elmo: “Concerning.”
He’s so. Fucking. STUPID.
