Elon Musk: Officially a fraud and piece of shit. Official or unofficial war criminal?

Given this stupid name, I guess now is as good of a time as any to post the exchange between Elon and Stephen King and the reaction of the internet.

King posted late last week about the Falcon crash and that it grounded their fleet. Elon responded

Musk continues to show his ignorance. Dude needs to buy a yacht and a trophy wife and go touch some grass. Or ass.

And how the fuck did she only get 20 months?

1) prisons in UK are really over crowded.  Made worse by them acting quickly to arrest these rightwing assholes.

2) Notice how she has already been ID'd arrested, tried, and convicted?   We need that sort of quickness with J6 assholes past and future

I want you to think about something.  Tesla has sold approximately 5 million vehicles in total.   If the average person drives about 10,000 miles/yr, this means Tesla has information for a single year of approximately 50 billion miles driven.   How many miles will it take for this thing to have enough data to work?

So, not only does the general public need to worry about FSD, we now need to watch out for driverless Teslas navigating around parking lots.  But never fear, Tesla is letting owners know they are fully responsible, not Tesla.

I will not be surprised if a little kid gets creamed by one of these in a parking lot.  Little kids are agile and fast as hell in parking lots, and all it will take is wearing the wrong clothes against the wrong background.

From my experience with the Elon and Elon fanboi crowd, the answer is “in two weeks.”

I don't know if there was ever money in selling Teslas, but can you imagine having to push something with the acronym ASS to normal functioning adults? Like is there anybody at all left in the room with Elon when he's coming up with this shit? How can they even hire sales people at this point?

You're talking about a guy that named the models to spell out "Sexy".

  • Model S
  • Model 3
  • Model X
  • Model Y

He would have used "E" instead of "3" but Mercedes had a trademark on it or something.

Naming something "ASS" is completely on brand with him.

There are so many reasons he should have any and all clearances revoked and SpaceX should lose any top secret contracts.

Unfortunately clearances don't work this way. I've been through the ringer for clearances but I'm a JAG. People like Musk skate because well they are rich.

ATTN Tesla owners.  Your car may get towed by police as evidence:

https://jalopnik.com/cops-are-now-towing-teslas-for-evidence-in-crime-scenes-1851638172

Quote

If you’re the proud owner of a Tesla, you might think the biggest thing you have to worry about with your car is either the battery going flat, body panels falling off or, god forbid, water sparking a fire onboard. Now, it turns out there’s a new concern for America’s Tesla owners: cops towing their cars as evidence in crime scenes.

Tesla owners in California have reportedly had their vehicles towed from crime scenes by police, reports CarScoops. Law enforcement have been towing vehicles from crime scenes that were placed in Sentry Mode, which sets the cars’ onboard cameras to turn on and capture everything that goes on outside the vehicle. As CarScoops explains:

Quote

While the EVs – and their owners – are usually unrelated to the incidents, video footage from the scene can be quite important for the case. The police usually asks for the owner’s permission to access their Tesla’s Sentry Mode backup USB drive which is located in the glove box, and download the desired content. However, if the owners can’t be located, officers obtain search warrants and tow the EVs into evidence.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Oakland police sought to tow at least three Teslas in July and August, showing that this is now part of their established tactics.

A recent example took place at a hotel parking lot near the Oakland airport on July 1. A man was found in an RV with stab and gunshot wounds that eventually led to his death at a nearby hospital. As part of the homicide case, the police located a Tesla which was parked opposite the RV. The owner of the Tesla was a Canadian tourist, who reportedly arrived at the scene during the towing process. The man permitted officers to download the footage without taking away the car, sparing him a visit to the police station.

Quote

In another instance, the Tesla towed was actually the crime scene itself after a man was found on the back seat with a gunshot wound. Police towed the car in order to access Sentry Mode footage of the shooting, however so far no arrests have been made in relation to the incident.

Sentry Mode is activated on Teslas when the car senses any noise or movement nearby. When that happens, cameras turn on and start recording everything going on around the cars. In order to access the footage captured by each car, police don’t have to gain permission from Tesla itself, instead requesting approval from owners or by obtaining a warrant.

I’ve been thinking about how the ancient Athenians every year would decide if they wanted to hold an ostracism, and if they voted yes, then the person who had their name written on the most shards of broken pottery would be banished for ten years.

We need a constitutional amendment where we have the option to hold an ostracism every presidential election year.  I think we could get Elon in a nationwide referendum.

Surly happy hour on the Pnyx?

I know we all hate Musk, but do we now all hate the idea of electric cars?

That is one thing I am confused on.

He gets credit for taking the EV mainstream and establishing at least a few standards.  He is also a terrible human being and seems to be getting worse.

Henry Ford was the same.  His Model T and assembly line set American on the path to dominate global manufacturing and ultimately win WW2.  He was also a communist sympathizer ahole.

In both cases we can respect the one and criticize the other.

No.  The issues here with EVs are with how they are being rolled out by Tesla and how the quality of the product and promises of the company are creating dangerous situations for people.    The overall audience wants more EVs and/hybrids from what I can tell.

Not to mention, 20 months will jerk a square knot in most people's asses.

Our sentencing is so draconian (before considering good time, parole, etc.), that our senses of what's right are way out of whack.

Been meaning to post this for about a day now

Bloomberg posted back on the 30th that Tesla is going to hold their Robotaxi unveil at Warner Bros. California Studio.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-08-30/tesla-plans-robotaxi-reveal-at-california-warner-bros-studio\

Full article here:

Spoiler

Tesla Inc. aims to unveil its highly anticipated robotaxi at an event at Warner Bros. Discovery Inc.’s movie studio in the Los Angeles area, people familiar with the matter said.

The electric vehicle company is targeting a reveal of the purpose-built robotaxi on Oct. 10 at the Burbank, California, facility, the people said, asking not to be identified because the information is private. The 110-acre lot holds 29 sound stages and has hosted famous productions, from Batman movies to the television show Friends.

Tesla Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk didn’t respond to requests for comment. A spokesperson for Warner Bros. didn’t immediately comment.

Musk has been prioritizing autonomy and artificial intelligence, shifting away from Tesla’s core business of selling EVs to consumers. The Austin-based company is also creating a proprietary ride-hailing app powered by a fleet of both purpose-built robotaxis and consumer cars that don’t require a human driver. The CEO may give more details about the technology at the LA event.

Tesla moved its headquarters to Austin in December 2021 but its design studio remains in Hawthorne, California. In 2016, Musk also used Hollywood studio space when he demonstrated Tesla’s solar roof product on the set of Desperate Housewives.

Tesla delayed the timing of the robotaxi event, initially scheduled for Aug. 8, due to design change requests by Musk, Bloomberg reported in July. The company also needed more time to create prototypes to demonstrate, people familiar with the matter said.

However, a lot of people have been piecing a lot of details together

https://www.theverge.com/2024/9/3/24234785/tesla-robotaxi-event-warner-bros-mapping-data-musk

Quote

The report gained further credence after a Tesla software hacker known online as @greentheonly noted on X that the company had started gathering mapping data in and around the movie studio a few days prior to the report. Green, who has gained some notoriety in Tesla circles by going through the source code of Tesla’s software updates, said the company was also collecting data around other locations, including the still-under-construction Tesla Diner in Santa Monica and “various SF and Bay Area pieces.”

The revelation that Tesla is collecting data on these areas in advance of its robotaxi event suggests a couple of things. First, the company wants to ensure that its demonstration of driverless technology goes off flawlessly, so it’s mapping the areas in which it could operate. That seems like sound reasoning. Tesla has a lot riding on this event given recent comments by Musk that the company should be seen as primarily a robotics company.

...

Any Tesla fan would be quick to point out that all the other autonomous vehicle operators also gather geographic data before launching their robotaxis. Waymo, Cruise, and all the others focus on making their autonomous driving systems work in geofenced areas of cities. But as Electrek rightly points out, Tesla has always claimed that its system would be different by using data gathered from its fleet of regular vehicle owners, who send camera images back to the company for annotation and labeling.

Electrik has much of the same here:

https://electrek.co/2024/09/02/hacker-reveals-tesla-gathering-extra-data-robotaxi-launch-site/

Basically a lot of people point out this is going to be the FSD Demo 2.0 (you know the one they faked?) They are going to overscan an area that is VERY controlled (It's a damn movie studio lot for God's sake!) and run on that. Yeah the demo is going to go off without a hitch. And they are still going to be YEARS from anything they can really deliver.

Also Electrek tore into Elon's claims about FSD and how he's lowering expectations:

https://electrek.co/2024/08/01/tesla-full-self-driving-data-makes-elon-musk-reduce-expectations/

Quote

Over the last few months, Musk has hyped up Tesla’s two latest Full Self-Driving (FSD) software update, 12.4 and 12.5. For 12.4, the CEO said that it will come without steering wheel nag and it will be able to drive “5 to 10x more miles per intervention“.

Unfortunately, Tesla ran into some issues in internal and limited external testing and decided not to do a wide-release of FSD 12.4.

...

As we previously reported, the best FSD data we have right now is crowdsourced.

With Tesla now rolling out FSD v12.5, the crowdsourced data is starting to come in, but it’s still extremely limited. Nonetheless, and despite Tesla’s resistance to releasing official data, Musk has commented on the crowdsource data, which many Tesla fans are already framing as positive:

Screenshot-2024-08-01-at-10.01.20%E2%80%

The CEO is talking about “doubling average miles between interventions” with 12.5 [from 12.3] this month when he was talking about a 5 to 10x increase with 12.4 last month.
