Seems bad for Elmo...

https://www.cnn.com/2024/09/20/tech/sec-sanctions-elon-musk-testimony-twitter-probe/index.html

The Securities and Exchange Commission intends to seek sanctions against Elon Musk over his failure to appear for testimony in an investigation related to his takeover of Twitter, now called X, the regulator said in a court filing Friday.

Earlier this year, a federal judge ordered Musk to testify as part of the SEC’s probe of the billionaire’s $44 billion acquisition. The agency is examining whether Musk followed the law when disclosing his purchases of Twitter stock and whether his statements in relation to the deal were misleading

...

The SEC asked the court to impose “meaningful conditional relief” if Musk does not appear at the new October testimony date. The SEC also said it intends to file a sanctions motion against Musk to recoup its travel costs for the cancelled testimony and for other relief.

Cards Against Humanity is sueing SpaceX for trasspassing and illegal dumping on their land in Brownsville

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2024/09/cards-against-humanity-sues-spacex-alleges-invasion-of-land-on-us-mexico-border/

Quote

Cards Against Humanity sued SpaceX yesterday, alleging that Elon Musk's firm illegally took over a plot of land on the US/Mexico border that the party-game company bought in 2017 in an attempt to stymie then-President Trump's attempt to build a wall.

"As part of CAH's 2017 holiday campaign, while Donald Trump was President, CAH created a supporter-funded campaign to take a stand against the building of a Border Wall," said the lawsuit filed in Cameron County District Court in Texas. Cards Against Humanity says it received $15 donations from 150,000 people and used part of that money to buy "a plot of vacant land in Cameron County based upon CAH's promise to 'make it as time-consuming and expensive as possible for Trump to build his wall.'"

Cards Against Humanity says it mowed the land "and maintained it in its natural state, marking the edge of the lot with a fence and a 'No Trespassing' sign." But instead of Trump taking over the land, Cards Against Humanity says the parcel was "interfered with and invaded" by Musk's space company. The lawsuit includes pictures that, according to Cards Against Humanity, show the land when it was first purchased and after SpaceX construction equipment and materials were placed on the land

Mexico.  Probably sets up shop just across the border from Brownsville.  May skip Florida, and may start the move in December.

Elon posts a novel on Twitter to essentially state that if Harris wins, he won't be sending stuff to Mars:

Quote

SpaceX plans to launch about five uncrewed Starships to Mars in two years. If those all land safely, then crewed missions are possible in four years. If we encounter challenges, then the crewed missions will be postponed another two years.

It is only possible to travel from Earth to Mars every two years, when the planets are aligned. This increases the difficulty of the task, but also serves to immunize Mars from many catastrophic events on Earth.

No matter what happens with landing success, SpaceX will increase the number of spaceships traveling to Mars exponentially with every transit opportunity. We want to enable anyone who wants to be a space traveler to go to Mars!

That means you or your family or friends – anyone who dreams of great adventure. Eventually, there will be thousands of Starships going to Mars and it will a glorious sight to see! Can you imagine? Wow.

The fundamental existential question is whether humanity becomes sustainably multiplanetary before something happens on Earth to prevent that, for example nuclear war, a supervirus or population collapse that weakens civilization to the point where it loses the ability to send supply ships to Mars.

One of my biggest concerns right now is that the Starship program is being smothered by a mountain of government bureaucracy that grows every year. This stifling red tape is affecting all large projects in America, which is why, for example, California has spent ~$7 billion dollars and several years on high-speed rail, but only has a 1600 ft section of concrete to show for it!

While I have many concerns about a potential Kamala regime, my absolute showstopper is that the bureaucracy currently choking America to death is guaranteed to grow under a Democratic Party administration.

This would destroy the Mars program and doom humanity. It cannot happen. Your help would be much appreciated. This is a fork, maybe the fork, in the road of human destiny.

SciFi writer Hugh Howey gets it. Leon it talking out of his ass.

And that's if you assume he is even getting anything heading to Mars in 2 years (spoiler alert, he isn't).

The Office Thank You GIF

Not only that, but what the hell is Leon doing to show that a sustainable colony can happen on Mars?  Does he have a Mars colony mock-up here on Earth or on the moon with people working out everything that will be needed?  Because there's a huge fucking leap from putting people and satellites in orbit to a space station and then to an actual colony in space. And everything I'm hearing from him is that a colony on Mars will need 100% replenishment from Earth, which is A) really fucking expensive and B) really fucking dangerous for the people eon Mars.

I'd be more impressed if Leon had taken some SpaceX ships and built a Skylab-esque space spation in orbit and kept it going and worked out all of the systems required (recycling water, growing food, etc.), or even landed something on the moon resembling a colonial outpost.  Not to mention power plants - solar is great, and will be more efficient in space, but me thinks they may have to have at least a small nuke power plant.

And he still hasn't addressed how people are going to give birth on Mars, and what's going to happen to people on Mars who A) don't have protection on the surface B) have muscle mass problems.

Sure, but they think all of society will collapse if Trump doesn't win, so stands to reason that that would include the space program. No point trying to further convince them.

Who's still legitimately weighing their options and believes that our ability to colonize Mars could be significantly impacted by the November outcome? Just mind-numbing stupidity to think he's swaying anyone with what amounts to "If I win, there will be no homework, and ice cream on Fridays!"

Cards Against Humanity sues Elon Musk’s SpaceX for using its land along the border

Makers of the humorous adult party game Cards Against Humanity say that SpaceX has trespassed on and damaged land it owns near the U.S.-Mexico border.

Cards Against Humanity purchased the plot of land in Cameron County in 2017 to send a political message against President Donald Trump's border wall. The company used a supporter-funded campaign. Around 150,000 people contributed $15 towards purchasing the property.

Since the purchase, Cards Against Humanity says it has maintained the property in its natural state and placed a "No Trespassing" sign at the perimeter.

They now claim in a lawsuit filed on Thursday that SpaceX has been illegally using the land for at least the last six months as a parking lot and storage area for the space company’s contractors.

They also say the company has dumped gravel and other debris on the property.

Cards Against Humanity is seeking $15 million dollars in damages from SpaceX, and a permanent injunction preventing them from using the site.

SpaceX did not respond to TPR's request for comment.

Cards Against Humanity has created a website to publicize the lawsuit, noting their intention was to criticize to one billionaire's politics and they now find themselves at odds with another billionaire.

The popular game involves players completing fill-in-the-blank statements with usually offensive or politically incorrect statements. The Chicago-based company describes the game as "a party game for horrible people."

By the way, this sort of thing is what Elmo actually has in mind when he discusses "crippling bureaucracy."  What he MEANS is: "any law or rule that doesn't let me do whatever I want, whenever and wherever I want."  That's it.

See, other parties saying "hey Elmo, you can't use my land to stage your construction shit" is really an impediment to his genius plan, and the crippling laws that stand in his way must be struck down (well....they must be struck down as they apply to impede HIM.....as they apply to PROTECT his property, well, those laws have to be enforced - you don't want a lawless society, do you?!?!?)

Elmo is the living embodiment of the "laws that protect but do not bind, vs. laws that bind but do not protect" modern "conservative" ethos.

If we only had recent examples of unregulated industries harming people and are planet.  It's not like there are bays and rivers that it's still unsafe to consume from or anything right?

His audience isn't sophisticated nor do they exercise critical thought, nor do they care.  The lies and compliments make them feel good in the moment, and to question it, would be to lose that camaraderie they have with other deplorables and rejects.  The lies and fear mongering make them feel special, like they are on the cutting edge of society and thought.   Just like the smiles all around when Trump told his audience they were all going to be so rich if he got elected.  They smiled and clapped.  Not knowing how or why, but the lie made them feel good and so they smiled to one another and enthusiastically clapped.   Art Briles tapped into this shit earlier as well, with his "truth don't lie" bullshit at Baylor.

As far as colonizing Mars, I still haven't seen the plan to kick-start Mars' core so you aren't bombarded by cosmic rays.

TIL that Mars is literally covered in toxic dust. Even if we could somehow build an atmosphere there, it would be overwhelmed with toxic dust and gas.

Mars is extremely cold. It has negligible water and atmosphere. Its soil is toxic to all earthly life. It has no magnetosphere. It gets far less sunlight and has far lower gravity compared to Earth. As far as we know, it contains no life and maybe never has.

Mars will never be a realistic bugout destination for mankind. No matter how bad we fuck up this planet, it will always be far cheaper and far more feasible to fix the problems on Earth than flee to Mars.

You haters need to slow your roll on the anti-Mars colonization bullshit. Clearly, none of you are aware that Elon recently aligned with and hired the best Mars consultant in the industry. I know this place is very anti-Elon but you should at least keep up with ongoing changes. I'll put the announcement in spoilers so as not to leave a long cat post:
