That’s changing. I’m seeing a bit of a snowball effect towards BlueSky and to a lesser extent Threads.

By snowball, I meant avalanche.  Bunch of writers and journalists are fleeing shitter. Not sure if they are doing it as a fuck you to Leon wanting their content for his AI or what.

I've lost almost 500 followers on X since the election. On the other hand, I've gained about 140 on Threads and 45-50 on Blue Sky, so it's not a total loss.

Our social media will become even more bifurcated, I'm thinking.

Threads is gaining a huge number of new followers every day. Zuckerburg indicated roughly one million per day in his conference call. Now up to 275 million.  I wish it would gain some of X's functionality.

Have you made your bluesky account username public info here? Also @atomheartbevo

Also for anyone at bluesky, if you're not aware of starter packs, they're basically a must know to build your account. If you want to get a lot of followers, find the admin of any list and ask them to add you. If you want to find people to follow, search the starter packs for users that others have recommended grouped under certain expertise and/or content. Starter pack subjects can be extremely micro. It's a feature that's a bit like what twitter had with "law twitter" or "immunology twitter" except more organized.

There's over 5,000 starter packs https://blueskydirectory.com/starter-packs/all

Bluesky doesn't have a central algorithm, so you have to follow a lot more accounts to get an active timeline...like 600 +/- 100

It also has "feeds," and you can get added to those or just use them to find people to follow. Feeds can be pinned to your home page a bit like a bookmark within the bluesky site to switch what content you see.

Yep, I tripled my followers this morning with two starter packs, and it’s people I want following me, that I want to interact with.

I found some Ukrainian groups/starter packs that easily replace my Twitter stuff (mainly because it’s OSINT people moving to Twitter).

I really had not dived too deeply into BlueSky, but this week is off to a helluva start. I see that they’ve picked up over 650,000 new subscribers in the past two days, and it’s active enough to keep them.

Thanks so much for this. I've added about two hundred followers on Blue Sky in the last two days and I get the feeling that it's beginning to wake up.

Between the curated feeds and the starter packs, it’s really easy to transition over to BlueSky.

Yep. I've had accounts with both for a while. Threads has been a disappointment. I've always liked Blue Sky's more free-wheeling vibe, but there was just so little traffic for so long. Those starter packs are a real game-changer for getting ramped up and immediately finding lots of bespoke content.

I am not disparaging anyone with those comments, which are far more benign than the comments on this thread that pull on those strings.

It's why I'm not deleting my accounts, just my tweets, and moving future stuff over to Bluesy, although if enough people are doing it, he may get mad and take the handles of anybody who bails for Bluesky or Threads.

lol, every president has a government efficiency commission. It’s a classic make work job.

They gave him a can of play dough and a juice box and that dipshit doesn’t even realize it.

But in this case, you fail to understand how suggestable and malleable the DOTUS is.  Elmo will submit a plan to eliminate all EV subsidies....except for companies that rhyme with "Messla."  And a plan to privatize all functions of NASA, with the preferred bidder being any space launch company with a launch facility near the Texas-Mexico border.  Etc.

It's.  All.  Grift.  All of it.

Serious question, then knowing this:

Why do most D's have such a kneejerk response to this if it's a nothing-burger? They just want to gripe about everything now that they've lost?

Let's pretend that this isn't a do-nothing job-- why are people outside the beltway concerned about career politicians and bureaucrats having their honeypots taken away, in the interest of tax paying Americana?

I get that the risk is that some things are cut too deep or haphazardly, but just assuming the government will crumble without a bunch of middle-men and women running around with funded pensions and inflated salaries seems like a very big reach.

I say all that to say, I'm in favor of austerity (generally) and government efficiency (generally) and rolling back the IRS hiring from last year or so (specifically) so you know my position before responding.

Of course you are.

Because pretty close to 100% of the time, "austerity" means "slash anything that benefits the middle and lower classes....but protect every cushy mechanism that benefits the rich/oligarchs."  Time, and time, and time again -- here and everywhere else -- that's how it goes.

An oligarch - a literal oligarch - who is the beneficiary of numerous government programs, payments, grants, and policies - is being put in charge of "government efficiency."  There are only two possible ways it goes: 1) it goes nowhere, and is a total clown show, or 2) it provides massive benefits to the oligarch class, and nothing but harm to everyone else.

Got my first close look at a Tesla yesterday.  I swear an Armored Personnel Carrier has a far better appearance.

There was a cyber truck for like $92k I saw listed near me. I had a good year, thought of buying it, but my wife would be mad.

My opinion: Cyber trucks are like the Audemars Piguet of vehicles. Sure they are ugly and ridiculous, but they are uniquely ugly and ridiculous, and that actually IS it's virtue. IYKYK.

Because the person who has built an immense fortune largely due to government subsidies, EV tax credits and government contracts should not be put in any position inside the government that even has the potential or perception of being able influence government spending. It is a gigantic conflict of interest that undermines public trust in our government.

So it's not really the idea or concept of a Government Efficiency and rationalization project, it's the personality that was put in charge of it (I guess, hence the response in this thread versus a CR response).

Makes sense-- I personally don't mind the cronyism (politics 101) but can understand how it can be seen as bad optics.

To that I say fine, just give full CEO control to Vivek Ramaswamy. Would you have a problem then?

Of course.  Because there is a near 100% chance that it becomes - like all such projects, but ESPECIALLY one under an entirely transactional regime - a project of "make shit super hard for the poor and middle class, make things lucrative and gravy for the rich, ESPECIALLY the rich/enterprises that have enough resources to ingratiate themselves with the regime."

TLDR; Those with money and power will miraculously come out AHEAD in such efforts, those without money and power will inevitably find themselves fucked by such efforts.  You know that's exactly how it will go.

Wait, weren't you the one who was vomiting all over threads a couple days ago about how "I'mma JUST look out for ME! It's OVER. No more helping anyone, just focus on ME! You are an IDIOT if you care about helping anyone! I was a fool, don't be me, learn from my mistakes! Me me Me Me Me...." to paraphrase?

I don't fundamentally agree that it makes things harder for poor/middle class as you think is the inevitability, but since you do believe it-- seems like someone like you with the self-professed selfishness would be in favor of this and want something transactional that benefits you.

Oh, I'll play it to my advantage.  I'm not stupid, I'm as cynical as they come.

I'm just not so dishonest/stupid as to pretend this will be anything but that.  IDGAF whether you "fundamentally agree" that will be the outcome.  Repeated history tells us what it will be, and PARTICULARLY under a regime that stands for crony capitalism more boldly than any regime in American history.

you mean the guy who's failing pharamaceutical firm is waiting on FDA approval on drugs that have proven time and time again to fail? No, he shouldn't have any say in weeding out inefficiencies in govt. He has zero experience in that.

A lot of the chattering class gets paid to gin up progressives.  So yes, there’s an element of bitch and moan.

The bigger issue is that most Americans don’t really understand what we spend most of our tax and borrowed money on. It’s easy to think that a bunch of shiftless bureaucrats are wasting trillions fucking around online. But the truth is I could eliminate literally every federal department except DOD, VA, Social Security, and Medicare, and you’d still run a deficit in the hundreds of billions of dollars. And that’s assuming I could get away with slashing billions in Ag subsidies. Which we know isn’t going to happen.

the part of the government that everyone hates, the Walter Peck government, just isn’t they much money. It’s like trying to balance your budget by eliminating beer.

The White House has an Office of Management and Budget whose purpose is to put together the annual budget proposal for Congress. Creation of an entire new government department for the supposed purpose of "government efficiency" is duplicative of the work of OMB. It's the stuff of idiots. Take a look at Dan Quayle's former Council on Competitiveness, to which he was appointed by Bush and which became the point of entry for corporations to give a donation to the Party in order to receive a slice of the government pie. It's the actions of corrupt communist cunts. They're not looking at how to make the government more efficient; they're looking at how to rig the game in their own favor.
