Comparing a cybertruck to an AP shows you somehow know less about vehicles than you do watches, and have horrific taste all the way around.

Why do most D's have such a kneejerk response to this if it's a nothing-burger? They just want to gripe about everything now that they've lost?

Let's pretend that this isn't a do-nothing job-- why are people outside the beltway concerned about career politicians and bureaucrats having their honeypots taken away, in the interest of tax paying Americana?

Musk will be sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with multiple people who run agencies that either regulate his companies or send expensive contracts to his companies. Almost sounds like a "Deep State" if you will, that a guy who makes billions from the government is at the same table as the people cutting the checks.

Musk has been a billionaire for many years, and he also wants to take away things he doesn't like because some incel told him they were bad, regardless of how much taking away those things might fuck over non-billionaires. He has not had a normal life since the 90s (and arguably before that).

Musk is also an illegal immigrant who is now going to be working inside the White House.  We supposedly don't want them mowing our lawns or roofing our homes, but they will be in the White House daily, trying to steer policy.

damn, immortal is persistent if nothing else. this has to be like his 20th username he burns through just to write this stuff that only a child would find effectively incendiary...try as he may. it is amusing that as big a letdown as the election was, he and johnny sack seem to be the only people who were truly broken by it. christ they are pitiful.

the only disappointing thing is he hasn't held up his end and posted any more pics of his wife's butthole since the original username.

from dudes posting on the linkd thread:

Tampa has not experienced a direct hit since 1921. Regardless of where the eye meets land, the Tampa Bay region is in for a difficult recovery. But the consequences will be profoundly worse if the eye hits North of the mouth of Tampa Bay as opposed to South, leaving it on the “dirty” (right) side of the storm. That would deliver a Hurricane Andrew, Hurricane Katrina-level event.

Did I mention that the debris from Hurricane Helene is still on curbs awaiting pickup across the region…

“According to a 10-year-old estimate by Karen Clark and Co., a Boston-based catastrophe modeling firm, a direct hit on Tampa Bay by a Category 5 hurricane could produce upward of $175 billion in damage and potentially kill thousands—a Hurricane Katrina–scale disaster, or even worse. And that’s just on its own.

But this hurricane isn’t even happening in isolation. The one-two punch from Helene and Milton is what climatologists call a ‘compound event.’”

+++

As Category 5 hurricane hashtag#Milton barrels toward Florida's west coast (the second in as many weeks), I can't help but think about the health care providers gearing up for what’s coming. This one's personal for me—I spent years living, studying and working in Florida, and my mom still calls Clearwater home. After nearly two decades in health care public affairs, I've also seen what these storms mean for the medical community.

While we’re all glued to weather updates, there’s a whole world of preparation happening behind the scenes. Communities are still recovering from Hurricane Helene, but in places like Tampa, St. Pete and my mom’s town of Clearwater, health care workers are already in full crisis mode.

Long-term care facilities and nursing homes under mandatory evacuation orders are playing matchmaker, making sure receiving facilities can meet each patient's needs. And there’s the added complexity of making sure medications—especially those that require refrigeration—are properly transported and stored.

Hospitals like Morton Plant are buzzing with activity behind closed doors. Tough decisions are being made about which patients can be safely evacuated and which need to shelter in place due to critical care needs. They’re stockpiling medications and checking backup generators to keep everything powered. And they’re bracing for a potential flood of new emergency cases, all while likely facing staff shortages.

Home health agencies are racing to prepare their most vulnerable patients. They’re ensuring patients have at least a week’s worth of meds and spare batteries for medical devices. For those who rely on oxygen, they’re securing enough portable tanks to get through power outages. They’re also coordinating with local emergency services to flag priority cases for evacuation.

And then there’s the larger, more daunting picture:

Hospitals will be triaging power to keep life-support systems and critical equipment running when the grid inevitably goes down.

They’ll be fighting to maintain sterile conditions and safe access routes as flooding becomes a real threat.

Backup communication systems are being set up, because when regular channels fail, coordinating care becomes an entirely new challenge.

For those relying on powered medical devices—ventilators, oxygen concentrators, home dialysis machines—the stakes are life or death.

As we all watch this storm approach, I’m thinking about all the health care workers putting in long hours and sleepless nights to protect our most vulnerable community members — people like my mom's friends and neighbors. Their work may go unseen, but they deserve our utmost gratitude.

Yeah, no way that Paramount doesn’t go with the five year mission, given the Pike backstory.  Fans want that.

There is also the chance that Paramount will say “fuck it” and Strange New Worlds will do it’s five years and then smoothly segue into a “new” series with the start of Kirk, Uhura, Nurse Chapel, Spock, Scotty, etc.  All we are missing is Chekhov, Sulu, Rand, and Bones, and it would be easy to cast and intro those characters over the next two years of SNW, and Paramount wouldn’t have to build new sets.

Hell, I think that’s why we have Kirk and Scotty already. I bet they do it.

I never thought I’d say this, but if they give us SNW up to Pike’s disfigurement and then segue into Kirk’s Enterprise, I will watch the shit out of it. I have no idea where that thought came from, because I fucking loathe the Abrams movies, but I’m perfectly fine with them giving us a season or two of Kirk’s Enterprise.

I can’t believe I just said that.

Of course you are.
Because pretty close to 100% of the time, "austerity" means "slash anything that benefits the middle and lower classes....but protect every cushy mechanism that benefits the rich/oligarchs."  Time, and time, and time again -- here and everywhere else -- that's how it goes.
An oligarch - a literal oligarch - who is the beneficiary of numerous government programs, payments, grants, and policies - is being put in charge of "government efficiency."  There are only two possible ways it goes: 1) it goes nowhere, and is a total clown show, or 2) it provides massive benefits to the oligarch class, and nothing but harm to everyone else.

And now even the old trickle down theory is getting watered down as the big corporations are shedding human capital and seeking ways to automate jobs at an exponential level and companies are getting venture capital to expedite the process while taxing our energy grid.

The thing is that Peter Thiel has more influence with trump than Leon could ever hope. Thiel doesn’t like Musk. He won’t let Musk get enough influence.

Leon’s thirst for attention will put him at odds with trump, who is more thirsty. On top of that Leon basically thinks he can play trump to run things, which will piss off trump more.

You combine those things, you have a recipe for Leon losing favor with the Donald pretty quick.

the people that last with trump are loser grifters with no other options. Gaetz, 3 toes, boobs and the like.

I won't deny that the loser grifters survive his orbit because they can. But there is also a second type that survive - the really fucking smart grifters. The ones that get they don't need the limelight, just the power. Thiel, Stephen Miller, etc. These guys know how to get what they want, but leave all the spotlight on DJT. Hell, they know how to play to his ego.

I was listening to an interview with Anthony Scaramucci yesterday. First off the guy is incredibly smart and well read. But he had a great observation of Donald Trump, he has his personal carousel, people get in his orbit, he uses them for all he needs and when they go by, he plunges the knife into their back and moves onto the next guy. If you take attention from Trump, then he throws you into the wood chipper. The smart guys stay off the carousel, the dumb guys jump right on.

It'll be interesting to watch it play out. I've recently listened to several long-form formal interviews or conversations involving Elon and Vivek. I think their concern for the government's financial state is real. Sure, they will play it a certain way in the media, but I expect them to positively affect America's bureaucratic bloat.

....and anything government backed, funded, or supported by favorable tax policies.....that competes with any of their businesses.

Rule #1: always begin by feathering your own nest.  Why would two extreme narcissists EVER depart from that rule?

For example.....how long do you think we'll have to wait for an executive order and/or actual legislation making Twitter the official and exclusive means of communication for departments of the United States government (couched as a "cost-saving" measure)?  Citizens, you HAVE to utilize this platform in order to have access to information from and about your government.  And if that just so happens to drive up the number of users, putting more dollars into Elon's pocket well gosh golly, that there's just a SHOCKING coincidence.

This is what the Deep State looks like.

Not some bureaucrat who has been with the VA for 30 years and knows how to get some 20 year-old server to keep chugging along because there’s no money in the budget, and said server is the only difference between disabled veterans getting their checks and not getting them.

It’s using the government to line your pockets and weaponizing it against your competitors.
