Yeah, why else was he spending so much time and energy backing trump and changing the Twitter algo to be more favorable to trump and the right?

The problem with currying favor with erratic, mercurial narcissists is that you're currying favor with an erratic, mercurial narcissist.  You will be forever in his favor.  Right up until he unilaterally (and for insane reasons) decides that you are not.

There's a reason that nobody on earth has ever said "Donald Trump is my best and most loyal friend."  Because he's not.  He's incapable of it.  He has no relationships that are not entirely transactional.  And when the relationship at hand involves a public evaluation of "who is the most god-like," anyone who can even be characterized as a rival for that status is already in a precarious position.

Peter Thiel is far better at the political game than Musk and can easily drive a wedge between Musk and the Powers That Be.

And Musk is foolish enough to try and power through the tariffs or the loss of EV tax breaks or carbon credit stuff and pass the costs onto his fanbois - look at how expensive the Cybertruck turned out to be and they still bought it.

And due to Musk’s “quirks”, he won’t realize that he’s on thin ice with anybody or that somebody is through with him until he’s barred from entering the West Wing or the Capitol office buildings. It’ll be a complete shock to him.

I don't understand tariffs either?

So Argentina lowering import taxes hurts Elon how?  Wouldn't that help foreign manufacturers?

It'll be interesting to watch it play out. I've recently listened to several long-form formal interviews or conversations involving Elon and Vivek. I think their concern for the government's financial state is real. Sure, they will play it a certain way in the media, but I expect them to positively affect America's bureaucratic bloat.

Nothing says Department of Government Efficiency like having Vivek and Musk both running it.

I bet the transactional relationship with his kids really fostered a great home life.

"Good move" for Argentina to lower tariffs but the fascist he spent at least $200m to get elected has promised raise tariffs in the US. Imagine being a CEO, government contractor, sucker of the government teet, and buddies with a supposed president but giving more of a fuck about Argentina than the US.

Tesla has been rated as having the highest accident rate. (Image: Getty)

Tesla vehicles have the highest fatal crash rate of any car brand in the United States, according to a new car study.

The study, conducted by iSeeCars, analyzed data from the U.S. Fatality Analysis Reporting System covering crashes between 2017 and 2022.

It comes at a bad time for Tesla, with California police struggling with 'unusable' Tesla patrol cars and the self-driving mode being described as stressful with a 'false sense of complacency.'

According to the study, Tesla cars have a fatal crash rate of 5.6 per billion miles driven. That’s higher than Kia at 5.5 and Buick at 4.8.

The national average fatal crash rate for all cars in the U.S. is 2.8 per billion miles.

Hyundai’s Venue model was found to have the highest fatal crash rate, with 13.9 per billion miles.

The study’s authors emphasized that the results do not suggest that Tesla cars are unsafe.

"Tesla vehicles are loaded with safety technology," the study noted.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the 2024 Tesla Model Y a Top Safety Pick+ award.

Now they have to determine if it's the car or the people driving them or in this case both.

Well whadya know, elmo's $200,000,000 investment in trump is already showing returns!

https://gizmodo.com/trump-reportedly-wants-to-unleash-driverless-cars-on-america-2000525955 (Bloomberg original reporting, paywalled)

Elon Musk, who recently signed on to head Trump’s “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE), could stand to gain mightily if the government decides to open the floodgates on autonomous travel, Bloomberg notes. Musk has made it known that he plans on launching a robotaxi service via Tesla and that, in the years to come, he hopes to pivot the company increasingly towards automation and driverless travel. In October, Musk unveiled what he called the “Cybercab,” a robotaxi prototype without a steering wheel or pedal. At the event, Musk commented that he expects Tesla to roll out “fully autonomous, unsupervised” driving in both Texas and California as early as 2026.

Musk’s move is likely designed to help him compete with the current robotaxi vendors like Google parent company Alphabet, which owns robotaxi firm Waymo, and General Motors, which owns the troubled robotaxi seller Cruise. Both Waymo and Cruise have made significant efforts to jump through regulatory hurdles and ramp up their deployment of driverless cars over the past few years, with significant activity in California, Texas, and Arizona. Rideshare giant Uber also has ambitions of joining the robotaxi business and has partnered with Waymo and Cruise to do so.

Other recent moves by the incoming administration—such as the announcement that Trump plans to kill the EV tax credit—have also been read as potentially beneficial to Musk and his companies.

Under the Biden administration, Musk suffered from increased regulatory scrutiny—partially due to Tesla’s focus on automation, partially due to Musk just not liking rules. Tesla’s claim to fame has been Full Self Driving, which uses software to augment but not replace a driver’s operation of the vehicle. An incident in which an FSD-engaged Tesla struck and killed a motorcyclist spurred a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration probe that was announced in October. Musk’s companies are the subject of many other probes, however. As of October, it was reported that the billionaire’s companies had been the subject of at least 20 different federal investigations.

Now that Musk is alleged to be playing an influential role in the upcoming administration, some expect Musk’s regulatory troubles to melt away. Indeed, DOGE puts Musk in a potential position to scrutinize the agencies that were previously scrutinizing him. Some commentators have noted that various ethics laws could limit Musk’s ability to lead DOGE, due to the large number of conflicts of interests posed by his businesses and their relationship with the federal government. That said, Trump’s new White House doesn’t seem like one that is particularly concerned with said conflicts.

  • People mad that item is now $150
  • China opens company in US, outsources item manufacture to non tariff country.
  • Company undercuts $150 item by selling it for $125
  • Trump celebrates victory and price cut!

The post was about Argentina, that's why I am confused. I'm picking up now that people are adding a lot of context that I'm not.

I'm under the impression that the liability potential is their main hurdle. Waymo is already driverless and on the road, but not elmo.

wish I'd know that was possible.  I'd have watched out my office window here in corpus

I was just driving down the highway and completely absolutely by accident saw the one last month all the way out in Hermleigh in West Texas, about 500 miles away from Boca Chica, so I figured I would try to see this one today from my house which is closer. And I did.

I was looking out the window towards the south and had the the live broadcast on in the background. Couldn't see anything at first but then as soon as they announced the separation on TV there was a bright flash and a puff of smoke in the clear sky. It flashed a couple of times and then disappeared. It was pretty cool.

It was actually pretty high up. Not directly overhead but not that low.

This graphic I found on twitter turned out to be pretty accurate. Apparently last month you could see it flying in the sky because it was at dawn and the sky was darker. This one the sun was up so all I could see was the separation which was right in that spot where it was supposed to be.

Talk that DOGE may require more govt workers to come into the office.
https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/20/politics/doge-remote-work-federal-employees/index.html

I don’t personally have an issue with this because some workers or even jobs are not as efficient at home. My opinion. And if some workers decide to quit over it, that’s their choice. Unless you have an employment contract, the employment conditions can be altered by the boss.

What’s funny is that they don’t get exactly what the book/movie are saying via satire and just who the humans represent. You would think Doogie’s Hugo boss outfit would be a give away.

I love it.  "Imagine each week as they talk about a shocking new piece of waste they found!"*

* And further imagine that it will be a story like how Imogene Martin, assistant manager of the Dubuque office of HUD, overorders printer paper to the tune of an extra $50 a month......reflecting a .00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% impact on the federal budget.

This is so.  Fucking.  Dumb.  Politicians have run on "I will eliminate fraud, waste, and abuse!" for DECADES......and then when they get into office, they realize that "fraud, waste, and abuse" account for a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a scintilla of a fraction of our total budget.  Sure, eliminate them.  It has the same effect on the federal budget as Brisket's decree to no longer purchase name-brand breakfast cereal has on his household budget (see said fraction of fraction etc.).

They aren’t going to touch the military

If they touch Medicare / Medicaid / SS they lose the house and senate in 26, maybe with a veto proof majority

What does that leave, defaulting on the debt?

They talked about it a lot but yeah, they won’t touch it.

Elon is in over his head.  He doesn’t understand Congressional budgets.  He thinks the government is like Twitter and you can just fire an arbitrary percentage of people, it’ll be fine and the government will still function, or he can unplug a few server racks or data centers and things can still function.

The inverse is often true as well. If its more efficient to have employees in the office, fine. If its not, then making them come in is poor management.

Of course when your measuring stick how "hardcore" you are, its all bullshit anyway.
