Elon Musk: Officially a fraud and piece of shit. Official or unofficial war criminal?

A nice side benefit of this is how MAGA is completely dropping the veil of "oh, no, we only have a problem with ILLEGAL immigration!"  That was always a lie.   And now, they are openly telling you "yep, that was a lie.  We don't want ANY immigrants.  At all."

Whereas Elon just says "look, so long as I can have functional slaves, I don't care where they come from."

Musk and Ramaswamy's views have sparked an online spat between factions of Trump's supporters over immigration and the tech industry, whose businesses rely on the H-1B visa to bring in thousands of foreign engineers and other skilled workers each year from India, China and other nations.

The tech industry has long called for more H-1B visas to attract highly skilled workers to the U.S., although Trump's first administration restricted the program in 2020, arguing that it allows businesses to replace Americans with lower-paid foreign workers.

That debate has again erupted after Musk, himself once on an H-1B visa and whose electric vehicle company Tesla has hired workers using the program, defended the tech industry's need to bring in foreign workers. Ramaswamy, for his part, wrote in an X post that American culture "has venerated mediocrity over excellence," leading to a nation that does "not produce the best engineers."

"There is a permanent shortage of excellent engineering talent. It is the fundamental limiting factor in Silicon Valley," Musk wrote on Dec. 25 on X, his social media app.

The debate touched off this week when Laura Loomer, a right-wing influencer with a history of racist and conspiratorial comments, criticized Trump's selection of Sriram Krishnan as an adviser on artificial intelligence policy in his coming administration. Krishnan favors the ability to bring more skilled immigrants into the U.S.

Loomer declared the stance to be "not America First policy" and said the tech executives who have aligned themselves with Trump were doing so to enrich themselves.

Loomer's comments sparked a back-and-forth with venture capitalist and former PayPal executive David Sacks, whom Trump has tapped to be the "White House A.I. & Crypto Czar." Musk and Ramaswamy, whom Trump has tasked with finding ways to cut the federal government, defended the tech industry's need to bring in foreign workers.

What if Musk dumped a shitload of money into Trump’s campaign and whispered sweet nothings into his ear, so that he could stop Trump from restricting H-1Bs, and even increase the number coming in?  What if Vivek joined in for similar reasons?

Musk is trying to shut down California’s high-speed initiatives, he and Vivek want some loans or grants given to other EV makers rescinded, he wants to increase government contracts to SpaceX, he wants the EPA scaled back or ditched so they’d get off his back, and so on, and so forth.

All of the sudden people are discovering that a billionaire oligarch wants to do things that benefit himself?

Yall got Elon’s real motivations twisted. No one stans harder for Elon than Indian tech dudes on Twitter so that’s what side he’s on.

I mean, this is all highly entertaining of course, but some of you guys are acting like any of this going on over the last day on the Xitter matters.

It does not matter.

Well, President Leon is going to find himself kicked off the Doge commission, and that's going to be fun as fuck, especially if the H-1Bs are drastically limited or completely ended.  We will see twitter weaponized against people who aren't used to it.

Musk probably doesn't even see this coming - from his twitter postings lately, he seems to be oblivious to how many people are pissed at him, and because he's always the smartest guy in the room, he thinks the people disagreeing with him are morons. He helped Trump get elected, but he doesn't understand that he's pretty useless to Trump now.

This is all playing out on Xitter.  It's entertaining....it's also 2 days after Christmas, and nobody is paying attention.  I said it on the other thread.  This is the same shit verse 3,567 of all the other breathless pre-election "holy shit look at this insanity, can you believe this is happening" tweets from generally the same cast of characters.

Ehh, it's being covered by the media, and the right-wingers like Loomer are foaming at the mouth over it, and there are people in Congress pissed about it.  Combine with the "President Musk" talk and Musk won't be around in the administration much longer.  He believes he can convince Trump of anything, and doesn't realize that everybody is disposable to Trump.

Why did you post a bunch of Trump-related posts from xitter in this thread?  Go fuck yourself in the face.

Also if you had taken a minute to read what you quoted and what you cross-posted you'd have noticed they're nothing alike. Assuming you weren't wasted out of your mind.

you think this guy might be on drugs?

Combine it with an ego like his, and that he thinks everything he has achieved has been solely due to his own hard work and brilliance, and that any criticism of H-1Bs is a criticism of him and, well,...

edit: apparently the H-1B thing has been a sore point for him for many years (probably since his brother outed them as being here illegally).

I'm not reading everything, but it seems like just a brief glance and the past 2-3 days is him melting down over H-1B stuff.

Like this.

The punchline is the implicit admission of breaking immigration law, which up until a week or two ago was a carnal sin for him and his ilk

Yeah that’s part of what is making his meltdown so hilarious.  It’s drawing attention to his breaking the law and he’s out there saying “fuck yeah I did because I’m special and should have had an easier process”.

I’m really wondering if he is doing all of this (the campaigning for Trump, etc.) for the H-1B stuff.  I’ve seen his tweets where he says America doesn’t have enough skilled engineers for him.  He believes this stuff and that H-1Bs are vital to the tech industry.

25 years later it’s still wild to me that Compaq paid $300mm for Zip2.
imagine explaining to somebody who was born at any time since the day Zip2 was founded what that company was.

By that time, Compaq had stopped operating as a PC company and decided to focus on its core business of making dumb decisions.

Real question is can Leon piss off Trump to get deported hisself

If Musk Loomers himself as quickly as he appears to be doing, who knows.  Loomer probably knows how to read the room a little better than Musk at least.

Musk doesn't get that people look down upon him for this.

Elon Musk pens German newspaper opinion piece supporting far-right AfD party

Billionaire Trump adviser said his ‘significant investments’ in the country justified his wading into German politics

Quote

The tech entrepreneur and close adviser to Donald Trump Elon Musk has taken a stunning new public step in his support for the far-right Germanpolitical party Alternative for Germany (AfD), publishing a supportive guest opinion piece for the country’s Welt am Sonntag newspaper that has prompted the commentary editor to resign in protest.

The commentary piece in German was launched online on Saturday ahead of being published on Sunday in the flagship paper of the Axel Springer media group, which also owns the US politics news site Politico.

Quote

Musk uses populist and personal language to try to deny AfD’s extremist bent and the piece expands on his post on the social media platform X that he owns, on which he last week claimed that “only the AfD can save Germany”.

Translated, Musk’s piece said: “The portrayal of the AfD as rightwing extremist is clearly false, considering that Alice Weidel, the party’s leader, has a same-sex partner from Sri Lanka! Does that sound like Hitler to you? Please!”

Germany’s domestic intelligence agency has classified the AfD at the national level as a suspected extremism case since 2021.

Quote

Shortly after the piece was published online, the editor of the opinion section, Eva Marie Kogel, used the US tech mogul’s own platform to post on X that she had submitted her resignation.

“I always enjoyed heading the opinion department at Welt and Wams. Today a text by Elon Musk appeared in Welt am Sonntag. Yesterday I submitted my resignation after printing,” she posted.

Spoiler

She included a link to the Musk commentary article.

The AfD has a strong anti-immigration stance and, like incoming president Donald Trump in relation to the US, is calling for mass deportations from Germany. Earlier in December, Musk not only posted in favor of AfD but the party’s hard line on immigration appeared to resonate with the incoming US vice-president, JD Vance, MSNBC reported.

Senior Welt Group figures weighed in on Saturday.

“Democracy and journalism thrive on freedom of expression. This includes dealing with polarising positions and classifying them journalistically,” the newspaper’s editor-in-chief designate, Jan Philipp Burgard, and Ulf Poschardt, who takes over as publisher on 1 January, told Reuters.

They said discussion about Musk’s piece, which had about 340 comments several hours after it was published, was “very revealing”.

Underneath Musk’s commentary, the newspaper published a response by Burgard.

“Musk’s diagnosis is correct, but his therapeutic approach, that only the AfD can save Germany, is fatally false,” he wrote, referencing the AfD’s desire to leave the European Union and seek rapprochement with Russia as well as appease China.

The AfD backing from Musk, who also defended his right to weigh in on German politics due to his “significant investments”, comes as Germans are set to vote on 23 February after a coalition government led by the German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, collapsed late this fall.

The AfD is running second in opinion polls and might be able to thwart either a centre-right or centre-left majority, but Germany’s mainstream, more centrist parties have pledged to shun any support from the AfD at the national level.
