When you consider just part of the list of what he wants to do

this is pretty funny when you think about the entrenched competition for each function (apple, google, paypal, fb, signal, telegram, stripe, block, bilt, etc etc etc) and then think about what it would take to build relationships with lessors so that they'd be willing to accept your payment method, with corporate physician groups to allow you to set medical appointments, with governments, with retailers/banks, with tv and print journalists and their corporate overlords...Space Karen couldn't even maintain successful relationships with charlatans like Matt Taibbi, Bari Weiss and Lee Fang for more than a few months, and their only interest was $$, not building their reputation. In what dystopian hellscape is a retailer going to put a sign on their front door saying, "We proudly accept X"?

Exactly. I mean, it's a lot easier to do those things in China where the government controls all of those things.

In other Tesla news, Tesla cancelled right hand drive production immediately of the Model S and X:

https://arstechnica.com/cars/2023/05/tesla-axes-right-hand-drive-models-s-and-x-offers-customers-refunds/

Quote

Tesla is no longer making a right-hand drive version of its Model S and Model X electric vehicles. The decision means that customers in countries that drive on the other side of the road, like the UK, have had orders canceled, and potential buyers are being told to buy a different model, a car from inventory, or try a left-hand drive version.

About 30 percent of the world's nations drive on the left side of the road, known confusingly as right-hand drive, as the driver's seat is on the right side of the car. The UK is probably the best-known right-hand drive country, along with most of its former colonies. While most of these are small countries, the list also includes highly populous countries like Japan, Indonesia, and India.

Quote

Ars was contacted by a reader from New Zealand who ordered a right-hand drive Model X SUV almost three years ago because Tesla reached out to him yesterday to cancel his order:

Due to recent changes to the vehicle program, Model X will not be available in Right Hand Drive. Unfortunately this means your order is unable to be fulfilled and will be cancelled. You will receive a full refund for any payments made. We understand that this may be disappointing news to receive and want to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Quote

Tesla offered our reader a NZD$3,200 credit toward a Model 3 or Model Y, although only if they purchase that new Tesla before October.

Although Tesla has no press office with which to confirm this news, the British publication Autocar confirms the cancellation of the right-hand drive versions. Customers with canceled orders in the UK are being offered a 2,000-pound credit toward a Model 3 or Model Y. It says that "a representative" for Tesla told it that dropping right-hand drive production was done for quality-control reasons.

As we've noted several times in the past, demand for the Models S and X is evaporating as the models are extremely long in the tooth and have been eclipsed by new models from startups like Rivian and Lucid as well as established OEMs like Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, and Audi.

In 2022, Tesla built 71,777 Models S and X but could only sell 66,705. That trend looks to be exacerbated this year; in Q1 2023, it built 19,437 Models S and X, yet almost half remain unsold.

I recently saw a Rivian SUV up close (one of my kid's classmates' parents has one).  It was legit.  If I wanted an electric SUV, I'd consider one.

I really do not understand Musk's wanting to keep Tesla's models frozen in time.  I mean, I get why you might from a production point of view, but not from a sales point of view.

I wouldn’t look at it as him not wanting, to. I don’t think Tesla has the capacity. This is a difference between them and a legacy car maker and the new tech makes it even more difficult. They’ve plowed more investment into factories to make existing models and have skimped on the R&D of new models.

The Cybertruck is a good example, (and yes, COVID). It was unveiled in 2019. Not on sale yet. Most legacy carmakers would be unveiling a facelift or model update after five years.

This maybe the strangest thing out of the last few years - younger guys who openly whine and admit to not getting laid, but who aren't married.  In high school, if you went around bitching about not getting laid, your classmates treated you and the rest of your AV club buddies accordingly.  But today?  They fucking admit it and revel in it on social media.

What also boggles my mind about this group - they are openly hostile toward women, then wonder why women want nothing to do with them. They call their celibacy involuntary, but they’re kind of bringing it on themselves.

It's insane.  Like Abraham Lincoln said, you miss 100% of the shots you don't take - openly hating women. And hell, in this day and age, I'd argue that it's easier for just about anybody to hook up than it's ever been in the history of humanity.

There could be some other stuff going on - a friend swears up and down that a lot of these guys are just in the closet and afraid to come out.

Whatever is going on, it's weird.  And now they may have to search for another king with Elon's latest moves.

But that's the crowd he couldn't resist stroking off. Any responsible form of corporate management from this point will appear to them as a globalist, deep state operation. Best of luck, fish lips. Live in it, dude.

This sequence of posts…especially “who are so incapable of getting laid that they've made a religion out of it”….well-fucking-done.

Seriously, of all the stuff the past several years that I don’t get, at all….this may be the most “at-all-est.”
Develop a modicum of social skills. Bathe and dress like a competent adult. Don’t be a hateful misogynist.
Being successful with girls is NOT THAT HARD. For fuck’s sake, I figured it out, and I was the textbook bookworm nerd with thick glasses and minimal athleticism. I realized that was not a good path to social success, including getting girls, which I very much wanted to do. So…start wearing contact lenses, dress better, put yourself out there in groups to develop some broader social skills (figuring out a decent sense of humor goes a LONG way). Oh, and as you advance in the game, maybe watch some porn/read some erotic writing geared at women, to realize what THEY might want or expect in a physical relationship. Then, don’t be a selfish sociopath. Show a genuine interest in others, and their needs.
These aren’t hard. Millions upon millions of dumbass guys have done it. This round of them is just too fucking stupid and lazy to get it. AND…Elon wants to be their god. “King of the losers” is not the Royal title he thinks it is.

Per some single gal friends, these guys put photos on the apps that are 5 or 10 years old when they weighed 50 lbs or more less. Then they get rejected for being misleading and they take it out on women.

Long in the tooth?! But I just read here they've been "refreshed." Does refresh mean something different to Elon, like where he secretly downgrades parts and capabilities, and fails to put it in the specs?

For most of recorded history, and much of the world today, hating women was/is not an impediment to getting a wife. It’s a new development that women get to chose who, or, if to fuck someone at all while still maintaining their ability to provide for themselves and not be ostracized.  So the bottom of the barrel dudes are now below the “no one” option. That’s what the incels are ragey about.

”Will of the people” is how fascists and the fashy talk. Elon’s too muddled to offer a coherent ideology but it is revealing of where he’s dwelling in the information space.

Didn’t see it mentioned, David Roth over at Defector had a good piece up about how Musk is burning down Twitter. Good read.

https://defector.com/burning-down-the-house

It’s more of a totality piece rather than snippets or hot takes (as almost if he’s rebelling against Twitter). Doing my best…

Quote

This is why Elon Musk was always the worst possible person to own Twitter. Musk has long been one of the thirstiest, corniest, most tiresome posters on the site, which is saying quite a bit. More worryingly, though, Musk has used the site—relentlessly, exhaustingly, constantly—in a way that suggested he had no idea what it did, or how people actually used it, or even why they might. His posts were joke-shaped and troll-scented without ever containing humor or even identifiable trolling; his mentions were filled with supplicants and hangers-on, all talking over each other to promote their various business gambits and themselves, to the extent that any identifiable distinction existed. Musk's account increasingly alternated between fervid re-phrasings of reactionary cable news bugaboos—they're trying to make the Minions woke or whatever— and concerned-seeming replies to posts about the same dumb shit.

His priorities, upon assuming control, seemed to resolve to firing as many people as possible and bringing the site into line with both his peculiar personal conception of order, his world-historically dire sense of humor, his opaque but ominous personal politics, and his cohort's metastatic sense of ambition, which dictated that every site's aspiration should be to become the entire internet. Musk moved quickly, and broke things—the things and systems and livelihoods he was determined to break, but also the technology that prevented the site from boosting animal torture videos. Everything got much worse, and much more like Musk's own posts and replies. "Basically, he’s taken all the good things about the site and made them very bad," Dan Ozzi wrote in his REPLY-ALT newsletter. "He invented problems that didn’t exist and ‘fixed’ them in the most comically disastrous fashion."

This is familiar. For all of Musk’s luridly corny extravagances, he has always been defined by his deficits. He wants very much to be funny, but manifestly is not; he wants to be seen as brilliant and heterodox and fearless, but has the opinions and tastes and politics of a very rich middle-aged man who isn’t especially curious or literate; he sees himself, or anyway sells himself, as a visionary and a pioneer, but has revealed himself time after time to be a classically cretinous capitalist. Musk's vision for humanity is grandiose and obscure; his impulse to stomp on anyone unlucky to find themselves working under him has always been more clearly and shamelessly expressed. His big ideas unfailingly reveal themselves to be either grubbing for state subsidy or "buy and pave a space, and put up a gate at the entrance." The first was off the table, and so Musk attempted to turn the free site he'd bought into a subscription-driven business.

This would not work as business because, as Ed Zitron has noted, the ham-handed subscription service that Musk created aligned much more closely with his strange understanding of the site than it did with any observable desire in the marketplace; also characteristically, neither the site itself nor the subscription services worked very well. More broadly, the attempt to bring the site to heel was doomed to fail because Twitter is too messy. This is not an engineering failure; it's foundational. That mess is functionally what the site is, both the elemental output unit of its users' labor and, in aggregate, the product that Twitter puts up for sale. Musk tried to impose order where the site was least under control and therefore most vital and valuable, seemingly because he does not really approve of other people; he introduced chaos into the elements of the company that once ordered the mess enough to make it legible to users and sellable to advertisers. He did that part because he's a showboat and a dunce.

Basically he goes on that Elon & Twitter slept with the dogs and now all have fleas.

Huh. Interesting. Twitter went and released their 12 step policy toward Turkey but hasn't released what Mosk said he'd release, nor have they bothered fighting any gov't orders, in court or otherwise. Mosk just rolls over for his authoritarian frens.

<I don't think it's totally clear but this is about tweets regarding tesla>

NEW YORK (AP) — Elon Musk cannot back out of a settlement with securities regulators that was reached after his 2018 tweets claiming he had secured funding to take Tesla private caused the electric vehicle maker's share price to jump and led to a temporary halt in trading, an appeals court ruled Monday.

The summary order by the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan was released just days after a three-judge panel heard lawyers' arguments in the case.

Musk had challenged a lower court judge’s ruling last year requiring him to abide by the deal on the grounds that circumstances have changed and because the decree contains a “prior restraint” that Musk contends violates the First Amendment.

The settlement with the Securities and Exchange Commission required that his tweets be approved first by a Tesla attorney. It also called for Musk and Tesla to pay civil fines over the tweets in which Musk said he had “funding secured” to take Tesla private at $420 per share.

The funding wasn’t secured, and Tesla remains public.

In its ruling, the 2nd Circuit said it saw “no evidence to support Musk’s contention that the SEC has used the consent decree to conduct bad-faith, harassing investigations of his protected speech.”

Instead, it said, the SEC had opened “just three inquiries into Musk's tweets since 2018” and each challenged tweet “plausibly violated the terms of the consent decree.”

The appeals court also rejected Musk's prior restraint argument, saying parties entering consent decrees may voluntarily waive their First Amendment and other rights.

Why is Elmo so mad at Soros?

Oh.

https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/george-soros-fund-dumps-entire-stake-tesla-elon-musk-2023-5#:~:text=Soros Fund Management had gradually, maker's stock price this year.

George Soros' family office cashed out on Tesla's impressive stock-market rebound this year by selling its entire stake in the first quarter, according to a 13F filing published Friday.

Soros Fund Management had gradually added to its holdings of Tesla stock during the second quarter of 2022, holding around 132,000 shares by the end of last year. By offloading that position, the fund likely enjoyed significant gains from the surge in the EV maker's stock price this year.

And Soros holds 3.58 million shares of Rivian.

Musk tells Tesla staff he must approve all hiring - memo

https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/musk-tells-tesla-staff-he-must-approve-all-hiring-information-2023-05-15/#:~:text=May 15 (Reuters) - Tesla,citing an email to staff

Quote

CEO Elon Musk has said that the company can make no new hires unless he personally approves them, including contractors, according to a copy of the email seen by Reuters.

According to the email, Musk told executives to send him a list of hiring requests on a weekly basis, while also cautioning them to "think carefully" before submitting such requests.

"No one can join Tesla, even as a contractor, until you receive my email approval", Musk said in the email on Monday.

someone on reddit did the math.

Quote

The average company has 18 percent attrition a year. Let’s give Tesla the benefit of being a highly desirable place to work with a delightful work/life balance and peg that number at 12 percent.

Tesla employed 130,000 people in December and even though the article says including contractors, let’s leave that at zero.

We have 15,600 jobs to replace every year to keep a stable headcount in a growth company. That’s 43 jobs Elon will review and approve every day of the year.

Given he puts in about 20 minutes a week at Tesla this does an excellent job of demonstrating his superhuman ability to say dumb shit and think people will believe it.

The most likely outcome is people will be afraid to submit anything and important stuff will start to fall apart.

in reality this is him saying "SEE I AM IMPORTANT AND I AM WORKING ON TESLA! I AM DOWN IN THE WEEDS! SEE! SEE! SEE!"

this is a guy who doesn't understand reality and is showing he doesn't know shit about business honestly, because nobody who is a really sharp business person is going to say something this dumb nor send out a memo showing everyone that you are this dumb.

Elon Musk tells Emmanuel Macron he had to to 'sleep in the car' before their meeting - hours after he was seen partying

Quote

Elon Musk has been heard telling French President Emmanuel Macron that he had to "sleep in the car" before their meeting in Paris - hours after the billionaire was seen partying in Mexico and Los Angeles.

The Tesla chief executive met Mr Macron at the Elysee Palace on Monday as part of the French president's efforts to attract more investment to his country.

In the footage of their encounter, Mr Musk is heard saying "I had to sleep in the car" to the French leader as they sit together.

Mr Macron replies quickly: "Okay."

Mr Musk then laughs awkwardly before raising his hand and saying to the gathered media: "Hello everyone.".

The tech billionaire usually dresses in jeans and a T-shirt but was wearing a suit for his 45-minute meeting with the French leader.

However, he appeared to be unshaven.

Mr Musk had been seen clubbing in the luxury resort of Cabo San Lucas in Mexico hours earlier as he attended a dance music festival.

The 51-year-old was also pictured at a trance music event hosted by Bosnian-German DJ Solomun in LA's Exposition Park on Saturday night.

The CEO of a company employing 10,000 people- never mind 100,000- should not be hands on in every hiring decision. Jesus Christ. He thinks he’s bringing value to hiring line auto factory workers, does he?

I was at a Fortune 500 company where an executive was approving every hire.  Of course, he was not the CEO, and he was only in charge of around 500 people, and it's because the company was in a hiring freeze and trying to reduce headcount as much as they could without mass layoffs.

And when the VP said he must approve all hires personally, what that meant was that there were going to be no new hires for the foreseeable future, because everybody's budgets were scaled back.

I'm sure Tesla is doing just fine financially, so like NoName said, this is Elmo showing that he's a shitty businessman who is trying to pretend to be hands-on when everybody at Tesla knows that he'd rather be shitposting with the blue check incels on twitter.
