Elon Musk: Officially a fraud and piece of shit. Official or unofficial war criminal?

There is so much long money tied up in this pile of shit that it’s going to cause real pain when it crashes.  But he’s telegraphed he’s moving away from building EV to building self driving systems.  It may be because his ego can’t handle how badly the CT has been received or the Chinese success in dropping the unit costs but it’s coming.

Yes but every cloud has a silver lining - apparently Elmo has figured out how to make use of abandoned shopping mall parking lots!

You're not bright enough to see it, but this was the plan all along. Elon has been buying up old shopping malls since before he started Tesla. He has the market cornered and he's not only storing long term inventory but also creating charing stations across the US.

When the global availability issues of parking, petrol and lithium hits, Elmo and CyberParking will be running the world.

The most successful self driving vehicles on the road like Waymo are using lidar and radar primarily with vision as a secondary layer of information. Going vision only with tesla was a cost saving measure by elmo that really severely limited his options later down the line in the design process

Can confirm similar is happening with the Powerwall. They've emailed me a couple times to promote a sale price...I want to say it was for $8k, down from $12k last year, I believe.

Hmm. Powerwall is one of the few things Tesla I'd actually be OK with at this point.

I saw a Miata battlecar in Henderson several months back. Probably more capable than a cybertruck.

I don't know shit about fuck when it comes to road track racing, but a co-worker of mine is big into it.  He claims those little Miatas whip the shit out of just about everything else in their competitions.

I expect better quality humor from gronk

I have a feeling an incel reposted something like that and Elmo saw it, liked it, and had an employee post it as being from Grok.  Because it was written by a human, it was definitely not produced by Gronk.

"Elon Musk’s Tesla pay package assailed by shareholder group"

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/elon-musks-tesla-pay-package-assailed-by-shareholder-group-139f2a0f

Quote

New York City’s investment chief and other key investors are urging Tesla Inc. shareholders to vote against Chief Executive Elon Musk’s $56 billion pay package and the reelection of board directors Kimbal Musk and James Murdoch.

Musk’s pay, voided in a Delaware court in January, does not serve Tesla TSLA, 1.57% shareholders, the group said in an open letter Monday.

“Shareholders should not pretend that this award has any kind of incentivizing effect — it does not,” the letter said. “What it does have is an excessiveness problem, which has been glaringly apparent from the start.”

Tesla shareholders will vote on the CEO package as well as the company’s re-incorporation in Texas and the two board members’ reelection.

The meeting is scheduled for June 13, with the company taking the unusual step of launching a website to urge shareholders to vote for its proposals. On Monday, Tesla also released a video urging passage of its proposals.

Signees of Monday’s letter include Amalgamated Bank, Danish pension fund AkademikerPension, Nordea Asset Management, and United Church Funds, an investment firm mostly serving United Church of Christ churches and ministries, as well as New York City Comptroller Brad Lander.

The letter also slammed Tesla’s board, saying that its “failure to curtail” Musk jeopardizes the Tesla brand.

“Over the past few years, Elon Musk has dominated the headlines with his public fights with regulators, acquisition of Twitter, controversial statements on X, and his legal and personal troubles,” the letter said.

There are “indications that the steady stream of negative Musk-related press coverage has led to a decline in the company’s reputation among consumers, which in turn is having a negative effect on Tesla’s bottom line.”

Tesla “is suffering from a material governance failure which requires our urgent attention and action,” and it is “critical” to reject Kimbal Musk, who is Elon Musk’s brother, and James Murdoch reelections, it said.

Tesla shares have rallied 23% over the past month, but are still down about 30% year to date, compared to the S&P 500’s SPX 11% gain this year.

Quote

Elon Musk has recently become convinced that his floundering car company is actually, secretly, an incredibly powerful robotics company. Model Xes and Ysare no longer the big business to him; it’s all about Optimus and robotaxis — that is, unless he doesn’t get his way at the upcoming shareholder meeting.

This past weekend, Musk threatened to take AI and robotics away from Tesla if he’s not handed everything he wants on a silver platter: 25 percent voting power in the company, his full $55 billion compensation package, and Tesla’s reincorporation in Texas. The problem is, he already said on an investor call just last month that Tesla doesn’t really need him.

Quote

Last Saturday, a Twitter account called Teslaconomics (a real name the account holder chose, despite “Teslanomics” seemingly being totally open and available) laid out a clear quid pro quo: If Elon gets all his little treats, then Tesla gets to keep the business wing that Musk has told investors is key to its success. The reverse is all there in the implication — if Elon doesn’t get the treats, he takes his ball and goes home, leaving the company with nothing but a backlog of outdated vehicles that consumers are increasingly shying away from. Musk, seeing this exchange explicitly laid out in writing, replied with a single word: “Yes.”

This is an interesting threat for Musk to make, given that he personally told investors that Tesla doesn’t actually need him. To quote Musk himself on last month’s earnings call:

Quote

Well I think no matter what, Tesla — y’know, even if I got kidnapped by aliens tomorrow — Tesla will solve autonomy. Maybe a little slower, but it would solve autonomy for vehicles at least. I don’t know if it would win with respect to Optimus, or with respect to future products, but it would — there’s enough momentum for Tesla to solve autonomy even if I disappeared for vehicles.

Spoiler

So, for vehicles — the things Tesla actually makes and sells — Elon Musk is not a necessary part of the business. If anything, given his arbitrary decision making, last-minute changes, and tendency to overpromise and underdeliver, he may actually be a hindrance. Even if you believe that Tesla will create fully self-driving robotaxis that save the company, Musk himself will tell you that he doesn’t need to be there. It’ll happen either way.

Musk’s additions to Tesla, then, are focused around the achingly slow robot that the company does not sell and still lags behind more established competitors in the segment. Musk has said he sees no limit to the robotics market, no maximum spend that it can support before buyers lose interest, which mostly just shows he has no idea what he’s talking about. That’s not how any product or market works.

Musk may be threatening to take his ball and go home, but he’s making the threat at a poker table — the thing he’s swearing to take away has nothing to do with the game that everyone else is playing. Yet, he hopes that this threat alone is enough to convince everyone else that he should walk off with the entire pot, win or lose. God, real tough call for investors there.

The company?  Musk ordered some lackey to make the website and create the video.

Elon with this gem — the responses are repulsive

I don't ever go over to Twitter except to follow links, mostly from this site.  So I opened it up the other night.  The "For You" feed....holy fucking shit.  It was a cascade of open, proud, racist and other awful related/tangential shit.  And some tits.  I looked at the tits.  But the rest....no fucking way.  It's one thing if there's an occasional racist reply or post, life happens.  Twitter concentrates and boosts the fucking worst that humanity has to offer.  It takes a society that says 5% racist shit, and creates a chamber that is 75% racist, in no small part because THE OWNER OF THE SITE IS AN UNABASHED RACIST. Jesus tapdancing Christ.

It’s going to get so much worse.  Racists and creeps who are tired of people seeing who they like (or afraid of neigh caught liking stupid shit), or looking at some bad content and accidentally liking it are in luck.  Twitter is going to hide the likes.  Elmo is stripping more functionality out of it (I’m sure he thinks it adds functionality but likes are a big part of social media).

But hey, now that your likes will be hidden, you can like a shitload of really bad stuff and your feed will benefit.

Yeah, we are making likes private.

Public likes are incentivizing the wrong behavior. For example, many people feel discouraged from liking content that might be "edgy" in fear of retaliation from trolls, or to protect their public image.

Soon you’ll be able to like without worrying who might see it. Also a reminder that the more posts you like, the better your For you algorithm will become.

What the fuck do they know about cars?!

Happy 35th birthday Miata.

In 2009, English automotive critic Jeremy Clarkson wrote:
The fact is that if you want a sports car, the MX-5 is perfect. Nothing on the road will give you better value. Nothing will give you so much fun. The only reason I'm giving it five stars is because I can't give it fourteen.
