Also let's not forget there was supposed to be a Robotaxi in 2 days, how is FSD going?

This shot is right after the car runs a red light to do an illegal left/U-Turn around a guy waiting to turn left and the driver has to take over to fix. it.

So it’s ready for NYC then.

Totally NOT Elon Musk asking questions on Twitter

He really wants Trump and truth.social’s base. I don’t know if he thinks it’s taking money away from Twitter or it’s an ego thing and it bugs him that Trump is posting over there, or if for some reason he thinks it will grow (at twitters expense).  The parent company has a market cap of $4 billion (and dropping).

Outside of reinstating formerly banned users on Twitter, it would be the first thing he’s done to grow the user base of Twitter.

They're able to go judge shopping and the one they went for in N Texas is as partisan as you can find. Meritless lawsuit that should be laughed out of court, but based on the judge, ya never know.

Would it really grow the user base?  How many users of truth are there and of those what % aren’t simultaneously shitposting on twitter already?

One of the most powerful people in the world is bad actor/troll and apparently no one can stop him.

What would it take? $TSLA tanking?

At the very least, the UK should send him a bill for all the damage caused by the anti-immigrant riots, which were prompted by misinformation on Xitter and encouraged by himself with his civil war shit. Hell, the UK doesn't technically even have the right to free speech, so place a travel ban on him ever entering the country again. He's clearly an agent of chaos and could rightfully be labeled a national security threat now for Britain.

Next Elon is going to sue companies that have never advertised on X because they should be advertising and failing to do so is illegally harming X. He most likely will find a sympathetic Texas judge who will blame it on DEI.

I would argue that the bulk of legal scholars seem to think this case doesn't have legs. This piece has some really choice quotes

https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/elon-musk-twitter-advertisers-lawsuit-joke-1235074957/

Quote

“Boycotts based on protest generally are protected by the First Amendment,” Freund observes. “And that’s the real irony here: for all of Musk’s proclamations about free speech, he has a habit of mistaking freedom of speech for freedom from consequences of speech.”

“This is a hideous joke,” says David Balto, a Washington, D.C., antitrust lawyer and policy director at the FTC from 1998 to 2001, of the X Corp. lawsuit. “The antitrust laws are a cruel and blunt weapon in the hands of someone irresponsible, they can do a lot of harm, but there’s no conceivable way,” he says, that Yaccarino and Musk can plausibly claim a boycott violation: “It sounds like Elon Musk is engaging in a fantasy world of antitrust.”

...

“It’s not a question of whether or not Twitter lost some money,” Balto says. “It’s a question of whether or not Twitter was competitively disadvantaged by their actions. There’s no evidence in this complaint that they were competitively disadvantaged. This complaint doesn’t even get into the batter’s box, much less get the chance to strike out.” Moreover, he considers the House Judiciary Report referenced in the suit to be “simply a farce,” saying, “they didn’t do any extensive investigation, and I don’t think it holds water.” He notes that the committee has done “practically nothing in antitrust for a while, so this letter comes totally out of the blue.”

They did note that Xitter has strengthened their hand with a few selections (emphasis mine)

Quote

That litigious attitude is nothing new. ... One lawsuit targeted the Center for Countering Digital Hate, which had documented the rise in hate speech; a judge dismissed the case in March, with harsh words about how X Corp. had sought to punish the organization for exercising free speech (a right that Musk claims to champion). Another suit took aim at Media Matters for America, which had demonstrated how paid ads were appearing alongside X posts from neo-Nazis and white nationalists. That case, deemed “bogus” by legal commentators, fell to District Judge Reed O’Connor, a conservative Texas judge known for partisan decisions who also happens to be an investor in Tesla, the automaker of which Musk is CEO. It’s slated to go to trial in April 2025.

...

The new 44-page complaint against the advertiser coalition was likewise filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, presumably seen as a favorable venue for X Corp. — in fact, because it went to the Wichita Falls division, it is guaranteed to end up before Judge O’Connor as well.

This shot is right after the car runs a red light to do an illegal left/U-Turn around a guy waiting to turn left and the driver has to take over to fix. it.

First things first... an obvious fuck-up by the system that needs to be addressed.  I'm sure this will be resolved quickly.  That's one of the main benefits of the OTA software updates.

A couple of points for consideration, though:

1. The vehicle does not run a red light.  It is turning right out of a McDonald's parking lot and then trying for an immediate U-turn onto the navigation track for a new destination - no doubt a questionable navigation decision, but one that we've all seen on the roads before.  The screen cap shows the car doing the subsequent U-Turn, and the red traffic signal you see on the left is for crossing traffic.  The green arrow to the right is the signal for the Tesla's direction of traffic.  But none of this excuses the Tesla for failing to yield to the vehicle already in the left turn lane. This scenario is a bit of a quirky edge case, so using it as dispositive evidence that the system is "not good" is cherry-picking.

2. The creator of the video made this video to show the one issue he experienced during several hours of driving in FSD 12.5.1.1 with zero interventions.  His overall assessment is, "The release is amazing and has made driving boring (in a good way)."

The system is improving with every release and the fact that users are having to search out uncommon scenarios to test the limits of the system speaks volumes as to how well the system currently performs.  I wish dumbass Elon would stop throwing his "delivery" dates out there, though.

Just stop. At least on point 1 you recognize that while it didn't run a red light - it turned in front of a car to make an illegal u-turn. My bad on missing the light change, but that left turn is still illegal and very dangerous (he turned in front of a car!)

2. I don't care if this is cherry picking, this is small issues that you don't see with Waymo and the like. They get THIS STUFF right. This is dangerous and puts people in and out of the car at risk.

Just like this video

Where they make another illegal left turn. There's a FUCKING SIGN that says no left turn, not to mention a median that is designed to force you right. If it wasn't simple shit like this - I could let it go. BUT THIS IS BASIC STUFF.

Waymo has plenty of issues too (a 2 second google search would tell you that).  I follow the self driving cars very closely and there are numerous issues each month amount all companies. Tesla has the most miles on the road so they obviously have the most visibility. It’s risky for everyone at this moment, but innovation requires some element of risk.

Holy fuck. The Global Aliance for Responsible Media (GARM) issued a statement that they're just a small non-profit and don't have the resources to continue to operate while they also fight Musk. And so they just dissolved. The world has been so fucked by just a few hundred cunts like Elon. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/08/technology/elon-musk-x-advertisers-boycott.html

Quote

GARM was formed after a video of the 2019 mass shooting in Christchurch, New Zealand, was livestreamed on Facebook. Advertisers converged and joined the nonprofit to pressure social platforms to adopt stricter content moderation policies.

Quote

While the World Federation of Advertisers denied that GARM’s work had run afoul of the law, it said that the nonprofit did not have the financial resources to continue operating while it fights X in court.

Quote

At X, the news that GARM would shut down was celebrated. “No small group should be able to monopolize what gets monetized.”

For some reason images aren't uploading for me.

Or....Elmo just sued a shell that means nothing, the shell dissolved, and the same members can form "Alliance II, Fuck Elon Boogaloo."  Indeed, the only proper defendants in his nutbar suit would be the actual market participants.  So, sue em.  Skin that smokewagon, Elmo -- sue Apple and GM.

Bro there is no way tesla's self-driving dream is going to work. You seem decent and reasonable, so I find it confusing that you don't get it. EVEN IF it eventually works the way they now say it will (with the driver paying full attention to the vehicle and ready to take control of the vehicle at any moment),

a) so what?

b) people are not trained to drive like that

c) there's absolutely no personal advantage to driving like you're a full-time driving instructor

But it's never going to drive as well as a human. Tesla knows it. FFS it looks like they're back to, or never stopped, committing fraud by falsely reporting accident data. https://doi.org/10.55329/llfl7748

It's hysterical that they can't even get the software right to open the model x's falcon wing doors, but you think they're going to invent reliable full-self-driving software while relying on 6 cameras but not the expensive hardware that the competitors in the robotaxi industry use.

Other defendants remain, as you're right he did include some large advertisers as defendants. Also per Business Insider GARM only had/has 2 employees.

I’m open to the idea that there are inherent flaws in Tesla’s approach to autonomous driving that may prevent them from ever reaching level 5 certification.   I’m also open to the idea that they just might be the one to pull it off.

It’s not just blind confidence in the company, and definitely not any level of confidence in Musk, that keeps me open to the second idea.  It’s my personal hands on experience with the system for the last 32 months.

I’ve watched what used to be herky jerky wheel movements and phantom braking evolve into super-smooth natural maneuvers.  I’ve gone from intervening with the system 6 or 7 times  in a 5 mile drive to almost never on drives lasting a few hours.  The times that I intervene now are almost always a matter of my preference rather than the car doing something remotely unsafe.

After nearly four years of ownership, I still love the car.  It’s the most fun-to-drive car that I’ve ever owned.  I still love the convenience of coming  out each morning to a car with a full “tank.”  I have a piece of the most advanced autonomous driving technology directly available to consumers in my garage, and I enjoy using it and testing it and feeding the dataset that may eventually get the product over the finish line.  For those who call me a sucker and a paid beta-tester, FSD is  factored into the KBB resale value of the car, so $6K of the $8K I paid is still reflected there.  About 20% of the current value of the car is due to it being an FSD vehicle.

Despite the comments poking fun at me, I have never been a blind defender of all things Tesla (and especially not Musk).  I try to limit my Tesla commentary to my personal experience with my vehicle and also to counter any misinformation about Tesla.  There are always multiple sides to a story, so I just try to present another perspective on some of the commentary and news that gets shared here.

Yes, it's good for you that the price of FSD has increased (not counting the availability for $99 a day if someone wants to borrow the software) even while the vehicle itself has rapidly depreciated. Do you think FSD is going to be a big deal for some reason, or just a fun little game to play while you're driving?

$99/mo is the subscription price for FSD.

I currently treat FSD as an advanced driver assistance feature.  It makes for very stress-free driving for me, personally.  I still have hope for the system based on how I see it perform on a daily basis.

You are correct... I should have said that FSD 12 is the first Tesla release to employ an end-to-end neural network for vehicle control instead of coded rules-based software.

IMO I don't think they have enough data to go full end to end. There's no way to put a safety interrupt inside the black box. And I can't say I really trust Elmo's black box making abilities, even if he's dropping beaucoup bux on Nvidia gpus

Even if the dream comes true and Tesla were to achieve Level 5 autonomy, I don't grasp what impact it would have on their business. Would they then twirl and become a taxi company? They're not set up for that. Even the driverless cars like Waymo are going to have difficulty keeping cars clean in-between riders. Tesla's not preparing for that. Individual dudes renting out their vehicles while they sit home and play on their playstation aren't ready for that. And Uber/Lyft are inexpensive enough - there's no upside for a random tesla owner - but there is plenty of risk.
