We still have no water.
Supposedly, they "fixed" the pump, but when they turned it back on, so much water came flowing out that it broke again.

Is there a shittier company in the world than AquaTexas?
Neighborhood in Houston was without water for close to a week because of them. Samething, the "pump broke".

Must be 2 in the morning...

It was beautiful. Tomorrow creeping up to 87 then back to the mid 90s I believe. My media/bonus room in the attic gets hot as a MFer in the summer when I turn the air off, when I came up here at 7 it was 79. Typically its upper 80s.

My god, what a gorgeous morning.  I need phDhorn to explain why today was the morning I thought we were getting Tuesday.   But I’ll take this.

Wow, low humidity, not even 70 degrees, gentle breeze. Played outside with my daughter for a bit before leaving for office. I’m sure it’ll all be over in a few hours.

Also need an update from him on this wave of rain coming in eight days is legit.

Driest air the entire summer (humidity @ 19%).  My guess is that winds were coming out of the NE instead of N/NW until last night put just enough humidity in the air Mon-Tues to keep max lows a bit higher (although yesterday temp was 73° here at sunrise).  Dry air heats and cools to much wider extremes than humid (cf. "the desert").

I had 65° here in The Cave (38) this a.m.

Temps gonna hover ~ 100° (± a degree or two either way) the next week, probably hit triples most days, but not much over 100°.
And... we got another good real rain chance comin' up next weekend (not this one), temps may even be in the low 90's - or in some places high 80's -  for a day or two.  (Looking like best chance of widespread rain next Fri-Sat 10th-11th, somewhere in there) since early July.  Not long nor flooding, but widespread and enough to measure pretty well.

More later as it shapes up.

I am currently in Washington, D.C. so I have no ide-er what it's doing there, but looks like there's gonna be a major shakeup in the summer pattern.  During the hottest week of the summer (August 10th is the traditional meteorological peak of summer in Austin. the date when the average temperature peaks and begins the winter descent.

When I get back, I'll elaborate on this welcome forecast (i.e. cooler and rainier).  Or I'll just masturbate to porn and not post shit.

I ran through a very strange change in Texas climate last week.  Hot and humid in Austin Monday.  Rockport Tuesday where we got hammered by a big thunderstorm that evening.  Cool air that night.  Not a breath of wind on Copano Bay Wednesday AM.  Literally glass across the entire bay.  Got hot in a hurry.  Drove home that evening and awoke to 59 at my house in The Drip Thursday morning.  I woke up and was out the door at 4:30 that morning, and thought I had slept through August and September.  It was glorious.  Drove to Junction Friday to check on some stuff at the ranch.  Drier than a popcorn fart out there.  Dust everywhere and all the vegetation is burnt to a crisp.  Then, went to Houston and saw scattered thunderstorms and 1000% humidity Saturday.  Went for a four mile run at 2 PM and looked like I just swam across a lake.  But, dammit, that rain sure did have everything looking nice and green.  It's amazing what 150 miles in any direction from Austin can do to the weather and landscape.

Y'all are all bitches. Unless I'm trying to perform at peak athleticism, I'll take triple digit weather if it means I don't have the ass temps I put up with in northern winters. It is therapeutic to step outside and sweat my cares away drinking a cocktail

The cold kills, too, mate. And even if it doesn't kill you, it can still burn body parts off.

Which is why you won't catch me outside in North Dakota in early February making yellow snow.

This may spark a little bit of hope for those ready for summer to end.  I have no idea how accurate this particular site is or has been, but I'd love it to snow in Houston again.  That was fun last year.

I endured their ineptitude for 9+ years at my previous house.  Every summer, you could bank on going at least one day without water.  We were down three days once with similar bullshit excuses.  "Backup pump hasn't been maintenanced properly, so it went out" and "The part that went out never goes out, so we don't keep it in stock" were actual statements that I heard.  When pressed about a discount for service interruption, they pretty much laughed because they knew they had us by the balls.  That company is a clusterfuck of epic proportions.

A good example of why you don't privatize public services and infrastructure/maintenance.

About 2 more days of hot, then another scenario like last week; high moves west into the Mojave region, and the Gulf opens up w/humid air.  Weak front sinks down Tues or so and gives us better chance of rain, though at this point not like last week.

But temps should sink 5 or 6 degrees into the high 90's.

By that time it'll be August 20's, which traditionally leaves about 2 more weeks of 100° potential.    Officially August 20 is the last average day of 100°+.  Of course some years (like following Rita in 2005), we had 109° in early September, of course helped by Rita sweeping huge masses of hot Mexican desert air over us (we being on its SW side).  That was something like Sept. 24-25.  Also, Austin's 2nd hottest ever recorded day was in early September,  2005 (111.2°, which really is pretty much the same day as its alltime hottest day, 112° in 2000).  But those are pretty rare.

I'd say give it another 2 weeks, and then we're done, with maybe an outlier after.  The earth simply gets too far in its solar orbit past the point where it absorbs that much direct sunlight, causing the heat.

Highs of 30 are kind of like highs of 80. Wtf, you ask?  It depends on if it is cooling off or warming up.

In Austin, the first 80 degree weather in the fall is when cool, dry air arrives from the north. When it warms up to 80 in January, it often means muggy air is moving in from the coast.

The same (kinda) happens up north with 30 degree weather. The first 30 degree days mean nasty cold fronts, but when it warms up to 30 degrees after a really cold spell, it means clear skies and warm, dry air from the southwest. If it’s sunny and not windy, I’m comfortable in short sleeves.

People who say they will take the cold have clearly never experienced long deep cold.

Lived my life in Texas, Florida, and So. Calif.  Live in NJ now.

Sometimes when it's cold out it just bites at you.  Don't even feel like doing anything that requires me to be outside, like cleaning the car.

BUT, when it's 95 with 90% humidity it's brutal.  I'll take the cold.

I would say Aqua Pennsylvania is worse simply because of the plasticky smell the water has.  But at least something wet is coming out of the pipes..

It's raining in Arlington.  Had no idea if this was on the forecast but a lovely 20+ minute actual rainstorm.  It rumbled for a good while before but then stopped so I figured it was all a tease.  Nope, glorious.  Now come on down you cold front.  Push these god awful upper 90s temps with horrific humidity out of here.
