Season 2 of Sex Education drops today. I'm traveling for work next week, so I'll probably get to it then.

Hot damn. Didn't know that.

Was wondering what was next after finishing the Hernandez story. Which I thought was ok. Feels like it could have been a lot better for some reason.

I don't know how or why i clicked on the documentary Cheer but i'm glad i did.  It got misty learning about some of the stories.  Surprisingly, i found it very worth my time.

I’m just getting started and am really enjoying it. For those who might hesitate, it is done by the Last Chance U people and has a similar feel. It follows Corsicana’s Navarro Junior College cheer team  They are competitively dominant nationally even against bigger, 4 year universities. This is something you can watch with your wife, girlfriend or daughter  Also, the head coach is very milfy

Head coach is a longhorn

The Hernandez doc is not good imo, any hype was self promotion on the part of its producers. Have no idea what Wisconsin football has to do with any of it. We all know football gets shady, from high school on up. I'll save whatever spoilers,  if there really is any. Sad his life turned that way, sadder yet that he killed 3 people.

I'm on board with Cheer too. It's amusing and educational, some of the stories and the kid's backgrounds are fascinating. What those kids have to go through is pretty shocking to someone like me who knows nothing about the sport. The coach is a fucking badass. As Pato mentioned, she's a Longhorn and her plan was to go into finance, but she ended up married with kids in Navarro instead.

they intentionally didn't make this super clear - it was almost as if they wanted the facebook stalker/sleuths to get more of the credit.  but the entire operation was saved by someone simply telling them who to look for.  the message (i believe) came from a random woman.  then, later on in the show, when they talked about how he had a bunch of socks/fake social media accts, they listed them, and the woman's name was on the list.

so assuming all else is accurate, he tipped them off himself.  which makes sense all things considered.

someone said upthread that the facebook detectives were pretty pointless, and i agree.  they didn't do much.  i love the idea of crowdsourcing (like sicking the shaggy/surly mafia on someone) but it's typically more like this show.  a bunch of noise and rabble-rousing, which is amusing to watch, but often does more harm than good.

to me, the biggest "holy shit" moment of the series, was the fact that they saw someone hurting animals, and said "we need to find out who this is, because this is the type of person who eventually murders someone."  and then he murdered someone.  and taped it.  i did not see that coming.

i don't know the answer to #2.

I don’t think it’s definitively known, but the method and his psychology points to it being him and that’s why the nerd’s struggle with guilt.  The guy wanted them to know his name and wanted them to give chase.  He tried for fame, failed, and his psychopathic narcissism made him conclude infamy was better than mundane obscurity.  And to be infamous, he couldn’t have the world collectively frown and move on from his kitty kill porn.

The sleuth nerd’s outrage and effort to identify him were the return signal of his feedback loop to know that his attempts to attain infamy were working early on.  I think they became insignificant to him later as his ambitions were much greater than a small circle of angry animal nerds.  I would have liked to know what role their evidence played at his trial or sentencing.  I’m guessing not much, or else it would have been noted.  To make it a compelling show about cat and mouse, I’m guessing they embellished the nerd’s role in the story and that ultimately they didn’t have much effect on the guy being taken down.

One thing that stood out to me was how traumatized everyone involved seemed to be, the nerd chick, the Montreal police chick, etc...  They seem to be fundamentally shaken to their core.

I also think the doc tried to fabricate some drama when supposedly someone made a video of the casino where the main sleuth worked.  They only briefly touched on that because after going through the rest of the doc it clearly wasn't the killer.

Started it last night.  Enjoyed it.  Head corch is hawt.  L' Darius is hilarious. His sideline antics had me rolling.  Will keep watching.

A 17 minute David Lynch film was just put on Netflix, What Did Jack Do?.  The cast includes Lynch, a monkey, a chicken and a waitress who has a line or two.

The film’s synopsis reads “In a locked down train station, a homicide detective conducts an interview with a tormented monkey.”

It is as advertised.

Guess I'm late to the game on this considering it came out in 2012, but I watched a doc called Searching for Sugar man that was really, really good. About an American singer/songwriter in the late 60's and 70's who nobody knew about in America, but he was bigger than Elvis and The Stones in South Africa. Really strange and fascinating story. Very well done.

Fair self assessment and review considering it won the academy award for best doc. But ya, great doc/story and actually bought an album of his that is still in the rotation.

Yeah I don't pay much attention to that stuff, but I'm not surprised.

I don’t know where else to put this weird ass recommendation. I have to tell someone. My wife watches (so I watch) this show called 90 Day Fiancé: Pillow Talk and this one guy they have commentating is named Dean Hashim and he is is the funniest fucker on the planet. It is on TLC, I don’t even know if it’s on Netflix

(I think he recently got booted off the show for some transphobic comments)

Erwin Center being the emptiest I’ve seen for a show didn’t help. Sound was bad, he just kind of stood there and played the songs without energy. Just boring. My buddy and I still use it as a comparison if we’re at a bad show.

Did he regularly play venues that big in the states, or was it part of something else?

Sounds like the Carlos Santana show I saw there.

He was awesome at Antone’s after hours in the mid-80’s. SRV and Chris Gaines showed up to jam.

Liked it! Wish Netflix would cut him a fat check and let him do his thing.
