Netflix Recommendations

Probably already mentioned in an HBO thread and this one but Scavengers Reign is really, really good if you’re itching for some sci-fi animation. Sad to hear they aren’t moving forward with a second season after buying it off HBO but it honestly doesn’t need one (although I’d love it). Would definitely recommend an episode or more on some weed or psychedelics but definitely not necessary.

I'm enjoying A Man on the Inside with Ted Danson. My only real complaint is the actress who plays Julie is really ugly.

Watched three or four episodes last night.  I really like it, and kinda hits close to home with the nursing home setting.  Not me, but my mom (no pics) in the pretty near future.

Black Doves is good through 2. Sort of an Americans vibe with Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw.

I stuck it out for the entire season, but felt some of the scenes towards the end were huge eye rolls. Thought the acting was great and I liked the pacing. Enjoyed the drama/suspense with drops of comedy

Did not give it 2 thumbs up in the Netflix app.

Probably a good to great show if they cast anybody other Knightley. She’s the female Redmayne. Another weird looking, awkward in every scene  Brit that they tried to stick down our throats.

The showrunner directed Wolfs. I loved Wolfs. So I’ll give a shot. But Knightley should be grinding out a living on Brit Box, not getting cast in big Netflix shows.

Chruchill at War is pretty good.  some good WWII clips and the guy who plays Churchill is very good.  I know WWII has been doc'd to death but more detail about some of the meetings and decisions that were made.

Great series, and IIRC it won an Emmy or two recently. I watched it on HBO last year and absolutely loved it.

I just started Black Doves and it's not bad. But it really is hard to believe that little twiggy Keira Knightley can fight a grown man and come out on top.

That’s where my Americans comparison mostly came from.

It gets wilder. I’m almost done w/ Ep 3.  I don’t know where Tupelo, MS is, but I will make sure to never go anywhere near there.  That whole place is nuttier than squirrel shit.

Ever seen Last Chance U?  EMCC is near Tupelo.  It's also where Elvis is from.  It also is or was the furniture capital of the US, where they build a lot of couch and other frames (proximity to lumber).

Also home to this guy:

I have a couple of clients there, including this guy, by "inheritance."

Jeselnik dropped.  Always great.

Bones and All. I watched it last night. Fucking greatness. An oldie but a goodie.

My girlfriend says she's addicted to chocolate. So I put her in the car, and I took her downtown and showed her a crack addict. Look at that, I said. Why can't you be that skinny?

4 new episodes of Chef’s Table has dropped. I think it’s the gold standard of food related programming. Good storytelling and beautiful cinematography.

It’s great but they’ve yet to equal the one on Tootsie.  That should be required viewing of every kid in Texas schools.  Her story is the story of Texas.

Tupelo is actually a nice town in the NE Mississippi forests.  It was the “motion furniture” capital of the world with tons of recliner companies with factories there. That $99 camo rocker recliner was invented by a dude at one of them.

kings is absolutely crazy. I thought it was a mockumentary but it’s not.    Bet that ex-wife would have been lots of fun back in the day as the singing sex-century.

Is it any good?

hmm, how should i put this?

if you liked "dead to me", you'll like it. about 20 min in, i asked if this was by the same creator, and looked it up and it was (i hadn't seen the trailer which says it is). the tone and structure are very similar. it's built to binge on netflix.

I started it and it felt like a bad “Scooby Doo” episode where characters would see things obviously out of context/leap to conclusions etc. Finished first episode and just didn’t have  any interest in continuing. Also Kudrow and Romano have absolutely zero chemistry together. If you told me all of the scenes where they were together were actually filmed separately and then they were added together post production I would believe you.
