My family is vacationing in northern Michigan. Today I was in a shop in Petoskey & overheard a conversation about the game. They were still bewildered at how soundly we beat them. 😛

The crazy thing is those were his only 3 incompletions…but that offense is hot garbage.

So in reality, he had a 100% completion rate.  To people on the field.

This "over-the-top" Michigan guy says SEC fans should to be scared in recruiting -- Michigan is now gonna spend big bucks...

Michigan Insider, "The SEC Should Be Very Afraid"

IMG_20241124_153428.thumb.jpg.d5feba61dc92d0c38d47faa340d9b94f.jpg

Everyone wants to take credit for for the Michigan Wolverines coup that landed the consensus No. 1 recruit in the country, quarterback Bryce Underwood.

Hailing from Michigan, it was a full-court press from famous alumni to flip Underwood's commitment from the LSU Tigers back to his home state. The NFL's GOAT and former Wolverine Tom Brady was credited as a "shadow figure" that was integral to land Belleville High School star, according to CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz, and obviously Barstool Sports' Dave Portnoy was bombastic in his efforts to land him too.

But after a statement from the Champions Circle, Michigan's cabal to land top recruits, a new name emerged: Jolin Ellison. Larry Ellison, 80, the Oracle Corporation tycoon and either second (Forbes has him at $237 billion) or third richest (Bloomberg has him at $208 billion) man in the world, fifth wife is a Michigan alum as well, allegedly. (She does not appear on any internet deep dive as his current wife.)

“We are very excited to keep Bryce home in Michigan as he continues to build his legacy," Champions Circle chairman Nate Forbes wrote. "I want to personally thank Larry [Ellison] and his wife Jolin who were instrumental in making this happen by providing Champions Circle with invaluable guidance and financial resources.”

“I am a big fan of the University of Michigan and Michigan Athletics. We are excited to support our student-athletes, so they can go compete at the highest level in college sports," Jolin Ellison, a Michigan alumna, added.

There is no proof that the below photo is Jolin Ellison, but the woman pictured is wearing a Michigan baseball cap and is attending a tennis tournament with the Oracle founder at Indian Wells, the famous tennis compound near Palm Springs, California, which Larry Ellison bought last year for $100 million.

As far as how much it took to land the prized recruit, reports have it in the $10 million to $12 million range for over four years.

One user joked on X, formerly Twitter, that Jolin is a real-life Keyser Soze, the famous character in "The Usual Suspects" that was the secret mastermind. It's the perfect comparison.

Michigan investing significantly more in new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey

Doug Samuels       Dec 21, 2024

Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines are committing significantly more to their new offensive coordinator hire than they did to Kirk Campbell.

After Sherrone Moore was elevated from offensive coordinator to head coach, one of his biggest decisions as a first-time head coach was elevating quarterbacks coach Kirk Campbell to the offensive coordinator spot.

It was a move that few questioned at the time, as the Wolverines had just captured a national title in due large part because of a stellar performance from quarterback JJ McCarthy all season long.

Campbell signed a three-year worth about a $1 million annually, but the Wolverines finished the 2024 season ranked 111th nationally in scoring and were 130th out of 134 teams in passing offense, sparking a change at play caller.

Moore and the Wolverines search led them to North Carolina offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey, who spent a few seasons at the head coach at Troy, and he's set to make significant more than his predecessor, Tony Garcia of the Detroit Free Press shares.

Tasked with leading a quarterback room that will feature one of the nation's top young quarterbacks, Bryce Underwood, who the Wolverines flipped in a very public manner from LSU with a monster NIL package, Lindsey will make a base salary of $4.5 million over three years.

Lindsey will make $1.4 million year one, $1.5 million year two, and $1.6 million Year 3.

Lindsey's incentives in his contract include:

  • $100k if top 4 offense in Big Ten
  • $100k if top 15 offense in the country
  • $50k for each win beyond a nine-win season (up to $200k)

Some of those incentives are quite lofty.

Dating back to 2016, Michigan has never had an offense that ranked higher than 24th nationally (2021 and 2022), and they've managed to finish among the top four in the Big Ten just three times since then.

Lindsey is also due a $60k signing bonus within 30 days of putting pen to paper (which was December 12th), the report adds.

Alabama RB Justice Haynes transferring to Michigan

Max Olson, ESPN Staff WriterJan 3, 2025, 05:46 PM ET

Alabama transfer running back Justice Haynes has signed with Michigan, the school announced Friday.

Haynes, the No. 3 running back in ESPN's transfer rankings, finished as Alabama's third-leading rusher with 448 yards on 5.7 yards per carry and 7 touchdowns as a sophomore. He'll have two more seasons of eligibility with the Wolverines.

The 5-foot-11, 210-pound back from Buford, Georgia, started six games in his second year with the Crimson Tide after rushing for 168 yards and two scores as a freshman. Haynes was the No. 24 overall player in the ESPN 300 for 2023.

He'll join a Michigan backfield that must replace the production of seniors Kalel Mullings and Donovan Edwards, who combined for 1,537 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns in 2024.

Michigan does return freshman back Jordan Marshall, who rushed for 100 yards on 23 carries in the Wolverines' 19-13 victory over Alabama in the Reliaquest Bowl on Dec. 31. Haynes did not play for either team in the bowl game.

Michigan has added eight transfer signees following its 8-5 season under first-year coach Sherrone Moore. The Wolverines are also bringing in quarterback Mikey Keene (Fresno State), wide receiver Donaven McCulley (Indiana) and offensive lineman Brady Norton (Cal Poly) to help bolster an offense that averaged 22 points per game this season, which ranks 113th in FBS.

Michigan reportedly bolstering offensive staff with addition of MAC coordinator

The job with the Wolverines marks a return to Ann Arbor for Campbell, who previously coached the team's receivers for over a decade.

Doug Samuels     9 hours ago

After fielding one the best passing offenses in the MAC, including a historic year from tight end Harold Fannin Jr. who broke the FBS record for both receptions (117) and receiving yards (1,555) by a tight end, Bowling Green is reportedly losing a key assistant.

Falcons receivers coach and pass game coordinator Erik Campbell is heading to the Big Ten to become the assistant receivers coach at Michigan, according to a recent report from 247.

The move to Ann Arbor marks a return for Campbell, who not only played under Bill Schembechler in the 1980's but also previously coached the receivers for the Wolverines for over a decade from 1995-2007. His time with the program included mentoring greats like Braylon Edwards, Amani Toomer, Mario Manningham, and current Michigan receivers coach Ronald Bellamy as well.

After Lloyd Carr's retirement at Michigan, Campbell coached the receivers at Iowa and spent a few seasons in Canada with the Montreal Alouettes.

He'd go on to coach at UConn and then serve as pass game coordinator / wide receivers coach at Delaware (FCS) before joining Scot Loeffler's staff at BGSU in 2019, and that's where he has spent the last several seasons.

Campbell joins a strong offensive staff that underwent a coordinator change this offseason. Chip Lindsey was brought in to run to the offense while Grant Newsom (OL), Steve Casula (TEs), Ron Bellamy (WRs) and Tony Alford (RBs / RGC) all return.
