holy shit. I definitely don’t remember this:

Abbott was 2-21 in his career (all in the final season of his career with Milwaukee in 1999).

Both of Abbott’s hits were off of Jon Lieber. Two weeks apart. He batted .400 (2 for 5) against Lieber (and drove in all 3 of his career RBIs) vs 0 for 16 all else.

(As a HS senior he hit .427 with 7 HRs.)

That's ridiculous

The Miami Marlins have designated two-time All-Star shortstop Tim Anderson for assignment, the Miami Herald reported Tuesday.

Anderson, 31, signed a one-year, $5 million deal with Miami in February, hoping for a bounce-back season that did not materialize.

Through 65 games, Anderson is batting .214 with no homers and 9 RBIs. He has struck out 68 times and drawn only 7 walks.

Anderson won the American League batting title with a .335 average for the Chicago White Sox in 2019 and made the AL All-Star teams in 2021 and 2022.

He batted .282 with 98 homers, 338 RBIs and 117 stolen bases in 895 games over eight seasons with the White Sox from 2016 to 2023.

The Rays didn't keep Civale for long, after trading a top 50 prospect in Manzardo for him last year. Civale makes 4.9m this year, and has one more year of arbitration, so he's not terribly expensive. His ERA has been 5+ since joining the Rays though.

The Milwaukee Brewers acquired right-hander Aaron Civale from the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday, adding the veteran to a thin starting rotation in hopes of holding onto first place in the National League Central. Tampa Bay will receive infield prospect Gregory Barrios.

Civale, 29, was dealt to the Rays near the trade deadline from Cleveland last season for first baseman Kyle Manzardo and joins a Brewers rotation beleaguered by injury, with young starters Robert Gasser and DL Hall as well as veteran Joe Ross on the 60-day injured list.

While Civale has struggled since joining Tampa Bay, posting a 5.17 ERA over 27 starts, he adds a reliable starter to a Brewers team that has leaned on Freddy Peralta, Colin Rea, standout rookie Tobias Myers, and Bryse Wilson, who has split time as a starter and bulk-innings reliever following an opener. Civale is on pace to surpass his career-best innings total of 124⅓, having thrown 87 innings with a 5.07 ERA this season. He will reach free agency after the 2025 season.

Manfred has overseen a lot of dumb shit.

one of the dumbest is going to custom jerseys for the All Star game instead of home jerseys for the host ballpark’s league and road jerseys for the visitor.

Leave that crap above for the workout/home run derby day

two thoughts here ….

1. Every year USA themed jersey and the player can wear a flag patch of the their home country

2. wear their regular jersey with a flag patch of their home country

same for the caps, let them add a home flag patch

MLB needs to step up, I like the idea of blowing up the 4th. MLB games from noon to late at night  …

Probably due to weather and time of year. Christmas and Thanksgiving are colder months and people are inside, close to a tv. On the 4th, so many people are outside and not worried about a tv.
