The Acolyte (Star Wars Disney+ show)

I like that we got yet another moth attack. There haven’t been enough moth attacks in this series, imo.

I like that for 2 episodes they made a big deal about rhe ROUS moths attack light sources…

And then a single ROUS moth decides to attack a not light source so that baldy can lazer whip it right after we have seen Qimir’s scars. Maybe they aren’t ROUS but actually Inquistor Moths helping Qimir.

I am so tired of the politics and social commentary in this show.  Of course the guy who dresses in black has a much thicker and longer lightsaber than the other white jedi/sith we have seen.   /Critical Drinker

It’s a Jedi thing to be devoid of emotion right?  Like sol jus t leaving 7 dead Jedi there and baldy with the rack not reacting at all when seeing the bodies

Except Sol lost control of his emotions twice now.  When he could have (should have) killed Qimir and back on the ship.

Vernestra was def like "i don't care"

Looked like Sol was checking out that lightsaber

I enjoyed the episode but the prequel level squirting grease into her eye so the otter guy could escape was pretty awful. Manny Jacinto is impressing me. The episode felt like the better parts of The Last Jedi (Rey and Kylo).

So, the best thing about this series is

Spoiler

the sales pitch for the Dark Side that Qimir gives to Osha. All that stuff we've heard about it until now... about it being easier, more seductive, grounded in powerful (often but not always negative) emotions... Qimir shows why he chose it. It wasn't a heat of the moment thing, but a conscious decision, like the kind of decision a kid makes to join a gang.

The second-best thing is

Spoiler

His island cliff hideout actually has railings, thus preventing an Osha violation

thank you, I'll be here all week

last 2 episodes were better but still underwhelming.  This Episode was a C and fell flat. To me, being the series was supposed to dig into the dark side, I expected it to be a little harsher, violent and darker.

Instead I got more of a PG version, maybe PG-13.

2 episodes to go. let's see how they land this craptastic series.

Oh and the little sniffer guy is dumb as fuck

Somebody mentioned that this isn't so much a TV show as a single movie that's being released in bits. I fell behind and watched the last two episodes back to back, and it worked better that way.

Bro, we got a triple quick stab of a kid and a neck snap, not to mention the slaughter of about 7 red shirt Jedis. When we get the reveal of what happened with the coven, I'd imagine the carnage count is about to go a lot higher.

Not really. He dropped his saber when Mae was held hostage.  That’s not losing control that’s being stupid

i don’t think this show is kid friendly either

These 33ish min episodes ain’t cutting it. Not 7 weeks in a row. Disney is failing everyone with weekly releases; there’s no flow, there’s nothing making me excited for next week.

Well, yeah, because (like the random redditor said) this isn't really a TV series, it's a movie they broke up into 33 minute chunks.

I'm gonna wait until the rest of the series is out, then finish it.

I’ll say something nice: it got kind of interesting when Sol stunned Mae. I started to wonder if he’s a bad guy and I’m curious what he’s going to tell her.

It’s still pretty bad but I was at least a little intrigued. Darth Gimp is still terrible. Like an actually bad actor. I kept thinking of ways he could have delivered his lines better.

Bro , we also got a supposedly cute cuddly "sniffer, the parent trap twins, witches counting like count Dracula and more after school special acting and dialogue to make elementary kids blush.

I get it was going for "edgy" (for Disney), but damn it could have been so much more

You wanted more Andor. This was never going to be Andor.

that's fair

In all seriousness, I know it can work because tales of the empire (which is a cartoon), carried it a hell of a lot better than this series. It just had a darker tone.

Let's see how the last 2 episodes go.

Thought that too but I’m guessing sol wants to find osha and take out young buck

agreed with all this. some of it is the dialogue but darth gimp is just not a good actor.  It's like someone said act like haydensen in PT.

Why not? Disney needs to consciously make inferior shows to balance out good ones?

No but Andor is atypical of most Star Wars content and there's only one Tony Gilroy. Laser swords, Jedi, and Sith don't typically lend themselves to Andor level of writing. Even Lucas couldn't achieve that. If everything was trying to copy Andor, it would fall completely flat.

The wife and I finally watched Ep 6 last night.  Her thoughts at the end summarize the show perfectly:

"How many episodes are left?"

"2 more."

"So not enough to make the show any better."

Another really good fight scene. I kind of was more into this episode than most of them. But a flashback episode before the finale? Ugh

Major tie back to Episode 1

Spoiler

Force sensitive child is a major red flag to the council. Rogue Jedi gonna do what he wants regardless

I thought it was good. And everyone was bitching about the fire / explosion being pretty lame, but it was hinted then things weren’t what they seemed, and now we see the full story, and the hubris of the Jedi that leads to their down fall on full display

Is this worth my time?

If you love Star Wars… yeah I could see binge watching this.

I’ll say this, watch episode 7 right after episode 3. It’ll at least feel like you watched a cohesive story at that point.

Weekly episodes do not help this messy story telling/directing.

Episode 5 has some great saber play.

Interesting episode. Sol was the center piece of it all which I guess makes sense now.

Spoiler

So the big cover up was that they defied orders. What went down that night wasn’t necessarily their fault but it would have never happened if they obeyed the orders of the council. Sol was acting on instinct and thought what he was doing was the best for the girls, while Indara was more rational and wanted to listen to the council. Sol royally fucked up trusting his gut on this one and his ass would be grass trying to explain this to the council. Saw a witch lady do some scary stuff and in return go into defense mode killing her? Shouldn’t have happened. Wookiee friend being possed by witches and Indara killing like 12 people at once to save him? Shouldn’t have happened. Having to pick between two children to save? Shouldn’t have happened.

Also, live action wookiee with a lightsaber going crazy = badass

So, Sol has turned from potentially interesting, tortured character hiding a dark secret (technically true, I suppose, it was a secret and a pretty dark one) to unbelievably stupid actual dipshit in just 35 short minutes.

His immediate fixation on the twins and determination to extract them from their home after meeting them for like 5 total minutes kinda gave me the ick.

Imagine setting this up for 6 episodes, having a great actor like Lee Jung-jae play the character, make him somewhat interesting and a bit mysterious....just to turn him into the actual dumbest dumb dumb idiot Jedi in the big reveal of the Jedi perspective of what happened to the twins' family.

Every one of these Jedi is objectively a terrible person. Sol is a complete idiot, a coward, and a liar. Torbin was a total coward and utter moron, Kelnacca (even though he didn't really have much control over what happened in the coven) at the very least went along with the cover-up, and Indara was a fucking mass murderer and self-serving manipulator.

They all more than deserved what they got and what I hope/assume Sol is going to get in the finale.
