Looks like RT definitely had a discussion with Tre about shot selection.

I guess. He should have shot that 2nd pass he made to Weaver.

Everyone at the game is talking about the Georgia score 😂

Wut?

He looks pretty damn good to me.

He is playing his ass off.

Playing hard but he has the same issue on the perimeter defensively.

We've given up 7 offensive rebounds with most being his fault. He gets lost on the perimeter defensively where we have no size inside on the boards because he's caught in no-man's land.

The key to this season will be finding somebody that can rebound. 14 offensive rebounds for Delaware State. That's far too many and it's been the biggest issue all year.

Offense looked much better tonight primarily because it was less ISO and more ball movement. A little lazy defensively in the 2nd half but Delaware State also hit some tough shots.

Rebounding is where we have to get better. Shedrick gets lost entirely too much on the perimeter where we become vulnerable inside on the boards.

I would like to see Onyema get more of Shedrick's minutes.

While Onyema is less of presence inside (offensively and defensively) he can move on the perimeter. Feels like we have the potential to be a lock down team on the perimeter with Onyema and maybe have less issues on the boards.

I don't think we need to see a 28 to 12 minute split in minutes between Onyema and Shedrick. Of course, Onyema has some glaring issues but IMO the biggest issue on this team right now is Shedrick getting lost in space in action where we get abused on the offensive boards.

I thought Shedrick was really good. He had 11 boards a swipe and 2 blocks. Not sure why you're ripping into him right now. He's a lot better than Onyema.

Their offensive rebounding wasn't really that problematic. A lot of it must have been on garbage shot attempts or blocked shots that went back to them that didn't result in points. At no point did I feel like "wow they're killing us on the offensive glass". They shot 33% inside the arc.

Tre was bad on D and the team as a whole played really lazy on D in the 2H. Maybe it was a Thanksgiving hangover.

Minus some iffy shot attempts Tramon Mark looked fucking awesome - esp in the 2H. He is as advertised and will hopefully have shaken all of the rust off by conference play.

Kaluma is a pimp.

This team can be good. Losing Kent sucked but we have some nice pieces. Just need to keep building chemistry and play the right lineups.

Right now Shedrick's DR% is 13.5. That's flat-out bad and especially for a big.

I think where we will improve on the boards is when Mark starts to get more minutes as he gets into a groove. He's long and a pretty good rebounder for a guard/wing.

Weird thing about our bigs, is they are actually pretty good at scoring inside.

Onyema is 11/13 from shots categorized as close range, Shedrick is 25/33, and Kaluma is 23/32. These guys are scoring at a pretty efficient rate inside. Our guards/wings should probably stop chucking as much and get the ball inside.

I'm not talking about the games before tonight - I'm talking about how he played tonight.

If you want to shit on him out-of-context be my guest as I've ragged on him plenty since he's been here. Personally I'm going to try and be optimistic and take a game like tonight and the last 10 minutes of the St. Jos game (where he was also fantastic) and hope that he plays more like that going forward.

He is the biggest x-factor for this team in my opinion and I think if he stays healthy and plays hard and with a good head on his shoulders he can have a really good season.

I agree that Mark is a monster. He and Tre are both listed at 190. Either one of them is lying or Mark's body fat is half of Tre's because he looks like Tre after 2 years in an NBA weight room.

Yeah, Mark is a grown man. Out of all the regulars he leads in DR% and he's a bully on the defensive end.

There's a reason he started 37 games on that 33-4 Houston team. To play in that system, you have to be a bully on the defensive end and the boards. Right now the issue is on the offensive end but I think that's expected after missing so much time.

Mark is a winning player if you can limit some of his out control play on the offensive end.

four of the teams we have played are so f'n bad that it's hard to take anything meaningful from those games. Stats should look efficient when over half your games are against complete chumps. Let's see what those stats look like in mid Feb.

It's meaningful when a team that sucks has over twice as many OR's and basically ties you in the 2nd half. If Texas doesn't start rebounding better the SEC is gonna be ugly.

You guys realize that Shedrick's primary roll is to protect the rim even as a helpside defender. When he does that, the guards and Kaluma need to box out and close out the defensive possessions. Johnson is averaging 3 rebounds a game and at 6'6" that needs to be 5+.

Overall the team defense has been very good.

The biggest issue for me right now is Jordan Pope's shooting. It's really bad and we need him to be a consistent double digit guy.

I just really wish that Kent hadn't gotten hurt. I really wanted to see a starting lineup with him and Kaluma playing the 4/5 and with Mark and Johnson on the wings. I think that would be a great lineup and would rebound much better than what we have been starting.

After watching some SEC teams this week I agree.  I was there last night and I’m a bit worried we are going to get pushed around pretty good.
It’s early and I know RT is messing with lineups, injuries etc, but outside of the last 8 min of St Joe’s I’m not seeing much synergy between the players.

Kyle Boone (CBS) thinks we re-enter the top 25 at #20. There were a lot of losses by teams in these tournaments

Nope.

Texas is at #28 with 97 votes.

Some wild swings in the AP poll -

Tenn and Kentucky both up 4
Marquette up 5
Wisconsin up 4
Florida up 5
Houston down 11
UNC down 8
UConn down 23 (!!)

Oregon, Memphis, Pitt, Illinois, OU, Ole Miss and SDSU all enter the top 25

Looks like we are favored by 2.5 tomorrow

NC State is better than their NET indicates.

They were right in the game with Purdue on a neutral court and looked decent against BYU on neutral court. Both those teams are probably top 25 teams. This will almost certainly be a Q1 result at the end of the season IMO.

Texas has to do something about Shedrick.  He is a complete defensive liability on the perimeter and is basically worthless rebounding the ball given his size.  He lopes around out of position, looking lost and goofy on both ends of the court.  He plays extremely weak in the post. He is easily faked into jumping to try to block a shot at the worst moment. He slows down the offense by clogging things up both in the lane and moving out to the perimeter. He is basically zero threat on pick and roll.  He may be a genius (heck, he went to Virginia and Texas), but he plays with a very low IQ on the court. I just cant stand watching him play any more.

Per 100 possessions

  • Shedrick - 12.7 TRB, 4.8 BLK, 1.4 STL, 1.4 TOV, 3.7 PF
  • Onyema - 12.2 TRB, 2.9 BLK, 2.9 STL, 2.2 TOV, 2.2 PF
  • Vinson - 16.3 TRB, 4.7 BLK, 2.3 STL, 0.0 TOV, 2.3 PF
  • Codie - 7.8 TRB, 3.9 BLK, 0.0 STL, 0.0 TOV, 0.0 PF  (small sample size)\
  • Kaluma - 15.2 TRB, 1.6 BLK, 1.0 STL, 3.0 TOV, 3.0 PF

I would give Vinson and Codie more minutes, even if it costs us a game or two while they come up to speed.  Our season is severely limited if Shedrick is getting 25+ minutes in March.  If we have to start him, fine.  But he needs to be getting more like 15 mpg, with 10+ going to Vinson, 10- going to Onyema, and then 5+ going small ball, especially if we can get Kent back.

In blowout games, Vinson and Codie need to be getting 25 minutes each, with some of it coming at the same time.
